matthewk wrote:So much for buying new games.....this one is using up all my gaming $$$ in DLC.

Last week saw the release of 12 tracks from my favorite band, Iron Maiden! So far I've only purchased 4 of them. Recent weeks has seen the Wii content quickly catching up to the 360 & PS3. Looking at this weeks releases I spotted about 7 more I want. This game has effectively kept me from buying TW10

It's so nice having such a wide range of great music to play too. From Maiden to Buffet to Duran Duran to Styx, I'm having a blast. I can actually handle drums on hard for most tracks. My biggest problems come where you've got a bass drum in between cymbal/snare hits. My foot only wants to work when one of my arms is going at the same time.
I didn't realize a Maiden set had been released, I'll have to get a few of those songs, especially "The Trooper" and "Wasted Years."

The DLC for this game is amazing.

Rock Band Network announced, allowing anyone from major acts to the garage band next door to submit songs for DLC.

REAL songs and tracks, apparently, as opposed to the junk you can create with GHWT.

Can't wait to see some DSPers up to download!!

In case anyone missed it (like me), Spinal Tap's greatest hits were released as DLC last week for Rockband.
The 11 songs that comprised the film’s original soundtrack were recently re-imagined and newly interpreted by the band for its latest CD Back From The Dead. The end result is that England’s Loudest Heavy Metal Band, Spinal Tap, has never sounded better.

Also, I did not know anything about this contest, but our vending machine at work started spitting out these Pepsi's with the yellow caps that allow you to win song downloads (among other things). I have yet to lose with the song download game, and I have all my teammates at work giving me their Pepsi caps. I think I have over 20 songs won now. Most of the DLC is available to download except for the newer stuff. The songlist and links are below. If you drink Pepsi already its an easy way to get some "free" songs. If you don't drink Pepsi, look for people buying these and ask for their caps. :)

1. Look for a Code on specially-marked packages
* Look for a 12-character alphanumeric Code (each, a "Code") underneath bottle caps on specially-marked 20-oz and 1-L bottles of Pepsi and on 32-oz and 44-oz fountain cups.
2. Use your Code to enter for your chance to win

INSTANT WIN

We're awarding a Rock Band 2 Special Edition bundle EVERY HOUR. Plus, 5,000 downloadable Rock Band tracks DAILY! Check out the list of available tracks here.

Did you download these, Don? I've read lots of impressions that claim the re-recordings (and new interpretations) are a pretty big letdown.

Videos of most of the songs and notecharts for the Spinal Tap DLC should be up at rbdlc.com so you can listen to things yourself and see.

I must be terribly unlucky, but of the 3 bottle codes I have entered, I only won 1 free song. You won over 20 in a row?

The win % was insanely high early on in the promotion. Just about all entries were winners.

They seemed to have made an adjustment to the odds...

No, over the course of about 2 weeks, done on different days. I was ususally entering them in the wee hours of the morning too, I don't know how much that factored into it, if at all. I did see some posts saying that they must have done something as people are losing now quite frequently. I lost twice for the first time last night.

I have not yet, but I did listen to some of the samples and I will admit that I became less excited about them. It almost sounds like a different band on a couple. I wonder if they had to do this for licensing reasons of some sort. I am probably just too familiar with the originals. My guess is that I will end up getting them sometime, once I am no longer getting free songs from Pepsi. :)

The full (well, 44 of 45) list of tracks for the Rock Band:Beatles game has been released.

Initially, the list looks pretty impressive. Then I looked up what songs are NOT in the game from the start and I realized just how many classics they decided to save for DLC.

This bugs me a bit. I'm not a huge Beatles fan, but I do like a fair number of their songs, and I think it would fun to play them. I can't help but feel that they are trying to milk this a bit by leaving out so many great songs that really should be there from the start. Just like the GH:VH game, tjis one started out sounding good, but is quickly losing my interest as I discover the details.

You can't really blame Harmonix. Blame The Beatles. Too many great songs.

I blame them both, but I'm not blaming the Beatles for too many good songs. Seems more like milking the license to extra $$$ by keeping some truly classic tracks away from the amin game. 45 tracks? That's it? I got 80+ with Rock Band 2.

This will be another "buy when it's $20" games for me. Speaking of, has the Metallica one dropped yet? I'm happy with being behind the curve on these.

So, just so I understand correctly, the songs are not available for download, right? If I want the Beatles in RB, I need to purchase the game separately? I don't necessarily need the Beatles RB instruments, do I?

You have to buy the game, but not the special instruments.

Hey DB, tell your girl Petty is finally in:

Rock Band DLC Additions for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 Systems

American rocker Tom Petty breaks onto Rock Band next week with two of his biggest solo hits, “I Won’t Back Down” and “Runnin’ Down a Dream,” both from his 5x platinum 1989 album, Full Moon Fever. This was Petty’s first solo album, after parting with The Heartbreakers; it reached No. 3 on the Billboard 200. Classic rockers Fleetwood Mac, English rocker Billy Idol and Australian rockers Jet return to Rock Band with tracks available for download in the Rock Band Music Store next week as well. The Jet track available for Rock Band next week, “She’s a Genius,” is from the band’s new album, Shaka Rock, which also hits shelves Aug. 25.

Tracks available on Xbox 360 (Aug. 25) and PLAYSTATION 3 system (Aug. 27):

· Billy Idol – “Mony Mony”
· Billy Idol – “Rebel Yell”
· Fleetwood Mac – “Don’t Stop”
· Fleetwood Mac – “World Turning”
· Jet – “She’s a Genius”
· Tom Petty – “I Won’t Back Down”
· Tom Petty – “Runnin’ Down a Dream”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

Older instruments (including GH ones) that work with RB2 will work with the Beatles game. There is no way to get ANY of the Beatles songs into RB2 or vice versa.

I'm just let down by the realization that it's only 45 songs. Similar to the VH game, this amounts to about 90 minutes of music :) Not what I would consider a deal for $50 compared to what we got with GHWT and RB2.

Some very tempting tracks there. As always, I will wait to see some reviews on rbdlc.com and watch videos of the note charts before buying any though.

Well, after starting out going 1-for-3 on my pepsi rock band points, I have hardly missed one since. Assisted by my friend at work giving me some codes, I am up to 12-for-15 on winning songs.

I also noticed this morning that the recent DLC has been added to list of available songs. Just picked up Runnin' Down a Dream. :)

Yep, I went 5 for 5 last night and noticed that 3 of the Spinal Tap songs are now listed as well. This deal rulz, especially if you have a way of scoring Pepsi caps without having to buy/ingest the stuff! :)

I'd go for RB 2. You can then rent RB 1 and transfer all the songs over to your hard drive. I like the music selection better on RB 2, and I think the instruments seem to be more durable. Isn't RB 2 down to $99? That's a heck of a lot better than when I paid $180.

My kids both love RB 2. I just wish there were a bit more kid friendly songs on there, but they definitely have their favorites.

Full RB2 sets (Game, guitar, drums, mic) are going for $100 now. I'd jump on that like it was Jennifer Love Hewitt. You can buy the Beatles game and use the RB2 instruments.

The only caveat with RB2 for the Wii is that you can't transfer the RB1 songs

I prefer Rock band to the Guitar Hero series. I like the drums setup much better (get the cymbals, it really adds to the experience), and the fact that they give you TONS of options for additional songs via DLC.
