OT: Who the **** is Artie Lange?
Seriously, what a ****. I guess I just don't get the humor by degrading people. Tough first show for Joe Buck.

I'm not a big Joe Buck fan so I'm not trying to defend him. However, it's his first show and I guess he got what he asked for. Meaning, they most likely knew Artie would come on and cause theatrics.
That said, uncomfortable humor is not for me I guess. It reminds me too much of elementary and high school grade humor. There was always some loud mouth who enjoyed belittling someone weaker than the others for the sake of a laugh. I never did understand what was so funny about that.

From the segment I heard this morning on Sirius, there would have been crickets chirping if it wasn't for Artie.NoJoke wrote:Buck may act uncomfortable, but Artie is a known quantity and he was booked to do exactly what he did.
If you book Artie on your first show then you better have the balls to take it. Maybe they should have booked Tony Romo instead.

Wow, thanks for posting that link. That's one show I definitely won't waste any more seconds of my life watching. Artie Lange is horrible; Joe Buck is worse as a talk show host.
Take care,

I am a Howard Stern fan and like Artie for the most part, but he was way off base last night. Artie was just downright mean and cruel last night and ended up monopolizing the show. Joe Buck was clearly embarassed, but handled it well. I really felt bad for Joe. It was his first show and all and here's Artie acting like a 5th grade bully, sabatoging the show like it was his life's purpose.
On the other hand, Joe Buck is no Bob Costas. His show was painfully boring until the Lange segment. His interview with Brett Favre was the worst. Joe Buck needs to stick to play by play.

Every time they showed Michael Irvin in the audience, he was laughing his ass off.MizzouRah wrote:I'll take Joe Buck anyday over Howard Stern or this so called "comedian" Artie Lange.. would have been great if Michael Irvin would have jumped up and really kicked Artie's ass.
Joe Buck is a GREAT play by play guy..........a talk show host, he is not.
The problem was that the show was painfully boring until the Lange segment and if that segment never happened, nobody would be talking about Joe Buck this morning at all.

EXACTLY. It's simply a pub grab. Now that clip is all over the place...exactly what Buck & Company wanted.miget33 wrote:Feel no sympathy for Joe Buck, that segment was staged and he got the reaction and publicity he wanted.
Buck is a self promoting blowhard...and this fits right in with his personality.
Totally agree, but I didn't think he portrayed himself in the best light on last night's show. I have seem him many times on Letterman and Kimmel and he is usually "clever funny". Last night was different IMO.tjung0831 wrote:For the record I love Artie Lange...he's as genuine and real as it gets in the hollywood world. His book is fantastic and made me an even bigger fan.
Oh and Dan and Todd...he's going to be in St. Louis here later this month or in July...not sure when.
I didn't understand his mean spirited mocking of Joe and his show.
Yup, normally he's not that big into "busting balls."tjung0831 wrote:For the record I love Artie Lange...he's as genuine and real as it gets in the hollywood world. His book is fantastic and made me an even bigger fan.

The hard-ass, wiseguy thing is just one part of his radio personality. Other part is that he went through a tough childhood and then worked his way up from a blue-collar background to TV. Kind of a soft touch, throwing money around to people who give him hard-luck stories.
I haven't seen the show but it's getting discussed this morning because of the Lange clips, which they played out here on local sports talk radio, filled with a lot of bleeps.
Sounds like Buck brought him in because Lange is a big sportsfan who's brutally honest (he's done the Romo rhymes with homo riff before). He's a big Yankees fan but hates ARod.
Supposedly when he left the stage, he asked Buck "How was that, did I do good?"

Artie had some great Letterman appearances in the past (Dave loves him). I have the Joe Buck show on DVR & will have to check it out tonight. I get why people don't like him, but everyone knows exactly what you get when you book him.
