I wish 2K sports would put up a better effort at making a decent game. I work in the industry so I know how difficult it is to keep everybody happy, but this game will please only the most casual baseball fan and the most casual gamer, and only for a short time.

Apparently this thread has just been deleted by the 2kstaff.

That guy was a shill for ASB on OS back in the day...would debate that game to beyond absurdness....then he was outed as an ASB dev team....what a jerk...pretending to be joe normal video game player.

There's another dev (backbreaker) on OS who pretends to be Joe the normal game player but he actually works for Sony.

Tried a few online games today. Pretty smooth. The batting timing is a little different than the offline, but it took an inning to get used to it. There was some slowdown on high popups, but no biggie as I was usually in-place for the catch already.

So, what is the hands on verdict for this game for a casual baseball guy? Obviously it's got some issues.. However, i've got it sitting here unopened and am trying to decide to keep it or bring it back and fall back on MLB 2k7 (which after they patched it with the filed cam) seemed to play a decent game of baseball. I've also got MLB PP on the Wii starting to fascinate me.

I'd say... it depends.

If you're willing to beliive VC will patch the over aggreisive CPU batters, and you're willing to tweak sliders, I'd say it's a fun game.

I've cranked batting success down for both myself and the AI and that helps a lot with getting outs from balls in play. Ideally, there'd be more strike outs, but with the swing happy AI, I find it hard to achieve.

I love the presentation and don't get how reviews are saying it's repetative and wrong, etc....

I love Living Rosters, and knowing all moves will hopefully be done in a day or two.

I have some nit picks, such as the strike zone seems too large (or that the AI doesn't throw wide enough) and moving fielders can be a bit clunky at times, but as long as another patch comes out and some sliders are settled on, I can see myself having fun.

ONe thing I've had to get used to after 2k8 is AI runners who actually steal! :D

I actually enjoyed the demo and have seen nothing that shouts "Don't buy it." How does the demo compare to the final version?

I think it's fun for the casual baseball fan.

Of the games you said you have, imo. MLB PP plays the best game of baseball, but updating rosters is nearly impossible so you are basically stuck with last years roster.

BK - As for rosters in MLB PP - That's why I did the Dream Draft for my season. I'd rather have something totally unique, that something out of date :)

Funny, that's exactly what I did as well. For the exact same reason. :)

This game is teriffic. I take it for what it is casual baseball. Presentation is one of the best. Playing difficulty one up from default and it's a good challange.

I'll echo this.

The fielding goofyness at times bugs me, but it's by no means a game killer for me.

I'll play ootp10 for a deep baseball experience.. and if my neighbor lets me borrow his ps3, I might rent The Show just to see first hand how good this game is... but unlike 2k8, I'm still playing MLB 2k9 and having fun.

It's a good time. Plays smooth. You don't actually have to get into slider tweaking. You can just download one of the more popular slider sets & go (let someone else do all the work for you)! Oh, the online is pretty good too if u have a good connection.

I am going to use it like I wanted to last year, as a nice alternative game to the Show. I like the controls, it's more video game than baseball sim, imo, but sometimes that's what I want. Last year the framerate problems killed it for me, those are basically gone, so this year it will fill that void for me.

That and the online experience seems to be a lot better than it is on the Show. That's been the achilles heel to the Show imo, online play, and from what I have heard 2k9 plays pretty well online.

and Parker, I forgot about Parker. he had so many identities it was hard to keep track.

Picking the game up tonight. Fortunately I am a casual baseball fan and enjoyed the demo. Will be nice to keep a baseball game longer than a month as I hated 2K8.

I've played approx 7 games online (against strangers - Ranked Quick Match), and it's been nothing but SMOOTH. I've also found to the competition to not be a bunch of a-holes so far (knock on wood).

It's all miles, and I mean MILES, better than the last few years.

The is the greatest "4.5" game I have ever played by far :D

I just finished a riveting 4-3 win over the Padres in my Dodger franchise.

I am 1-2 so far, as Jake Peavy and Chris Young both shut em down.

Awesome thing about Young...he beat me with that high fastball...just like he does in real life....I kept chasing it up in the zone thinking I could hit it

I have yet to encounter the 1B glitch...and have seen quite a few taken strikes when pitching.

The zone hitting is still a blast.

Seeing a ball bounce off the facade on the 2nd deck at Petco, and back onto the field..... :D :D :D :D

Tons of fun.

I just read that gamespot review. I don't get a lot of what they're saying. They said nearly every game ends with about about 30 total hits. After about 10 games (using BFJ's sliders), I've yet to have any team score more than 6 runs. They also mention the infielders animation being so slow, you end up with a bunch of infield hits & DP. I agree the animation seems a bit relaxed, but not seeing a bunch of infield hits. I like gamspot's reviews in-general, but not this time.

All I can say is that me and Jason played a full game online with hardly any lag whatsoever. What lag there was did not affect the hitting, at least on my end.

That alone is worth 4.5 in any scoring system. Possibly the first lag free baseball game I have ever played.

Absolutely loving the game without the need to preface with the normal disclaimers that its not The Show, its good for pick up and play, its not for sim gamers but the more casual gamer. This game plays a good game of baseball. Just finished a postseason that I went into believing it would hold me over until opening day when rosters would be finalized or more slider projects would be completed fixing the games shortcomings. I've been using BigfnJoe's sliders d/l from 2kshare. I'm using the default batting and pitching controls. I don't like the cursor/zone hitting as I try to limit too many things on the screen.

I used the Cubs in my playoffs sweeping the Dodgers in the NLDS, battled the Cardinals in a seven game series, Wainwright and Carpenter are tough to beat. Then I swept the ChiSox in the WS, who had beat the BoSox in 7 games after being down 3-1. Aramis Rameriz won the WS MVP. Postseason celebration is a little lame.

I'm seeing tons of hit variety, but there are too many line drives right at the infielders, and the infielders make an awful lot of diving catches. I turned down the fielder speed as the cpu outfield was running everything down.

Every Live roster download seems to change something besides the rosters. Anyone else notice this? The most recent d/l changed the Cubs shoe colors to blue from the grey. Unless the Cubs have changed their road hats this season, VC needs to correct the bills. I wonder if they can affect the gameplay with these roster downloads.

I'm going to try to hold off on starting my franchise until Opening Day. I'm also holding out hope for a patch that makes the cpu less swing aggressive even though I'm getting a good amount of called strikes and check swing strikes by using the Inside Edge. Also a minor thing that I hope is patched is the amount of night games at Wrigley on the Cubs schedule.
