'cuz outside of not being yellow, and a little facial hair, I think it's a pretty fair matchup... :D

I was just thinking, "Where the hell in Alabama looks like THAT?"

This is what it looks like right now in my neck of the woods:

It's a wonderful time of year. Pause, look at the pictures and enjoy the break from partisan politics, boys. :)

Take care,

RobVarak wrote:Well apparently The Tax Policy Center study that you cited swallowed it hook line and sinker as well:
As in 2009, about 15 percent of households would see an increase in their EMTR. Households in the $30,000 - $50,000 and $75,000 to $200,000 income ranges would be the most likely to face an increased EMTR.
I looked over the Brookings Institute white paper that JRod referenced, and their EMTR listing for Obama's plan does not show an increase. They show a slight decrease of 0.3-0.5% compared to current law. McCain's plan shows cuts across the board, even compared to extending the Bush tax cuts. This is based on Figure 8 on p. 24.

I'd like to read the report in more detail to see if I can figure out why the numbers are different, but that's what I noticed at a glance. Again, I'm no expert, so I may be misinterpreting this info.

PK, those pictures are great. We drove through the UP this weekend and were treated to a very similar scene. It's the last bit of beauty before the icy nutsack of winter teabags us.

Full disclosure, Rob: I didn't take them. Copied them from syracuse.com. They were taken at Green Lakes State Park, about 20 miles east of here. It's about 4 miles from my folks' house.

Take care,

That quote is from the Brookings paper.

What's interesting is that we've gone on for page after page, but there's really been no disputing that included in Obama's 95% number are the 30% of American workers who pay no income tax already.

It's basically political malpractice that the McCain campaign has not been pointing this out.

I agree this sucks, but how could he restrict that 30%? Aren't those people that get paid "under the table"? If not, could you explain who exactly makes up that 30%?

Oh, for f*ck's sake: You moved to Atlanta from Florida. You haven't experienced a real winter since you left Jersey, man! :)

Hey we had snow 3 times last year! :)

Seriously, it's not a "New York Winter", but Atlanta has a winter. Many weeks of 20-30 deg. temps.

Ah... the memories of playing pond hockey growing up in No Jersey :)
I always played with older, bigger kids, so whenever the puck went onto shaky, thin ice, I had to go get it, since I was smaller and lighter. Kind of like a "right of passage".

Incidentally, anyone who's a junkie for all things political, particularly cammpaigns, should check out Reagan's Revolution by Craig Shirley.

http://www.amazon.com/Reagans-Revolutio ... 734&sr=8-1

Interestingly, it's not about his 1980 victory, but about his challenge of Ford in 1976. It's refreshing to read something that isn't outright hagiograpy about Reagan and which also has interesting insight into the Ford White House...both are in short supply.

Shipley's a first-time author and not the most brilliant stylist, but his narrative flows well and moves along briskly. In addition to its main theme of how the campaign laid the foundation for Reagan's 1980 win and subsequent administration, it's also a great peak behind the curtain of GOP leadership that would shape the next 30 years. There is insight into the relationships and rivalries involving Cheney, George H.W. Bush, Rumsfeld, Kissinger, Schultz, Nofziger, and many others.

Shipley's a lobbyist and consultant by trade, so it also has a ton of great "inside baseball" about how campaigns were run in the wild days just after the FEC was passed, and before the internet revolutionized fundraising. It's also a window into Reagan's leadership style and political instincts. Highly recommended to political fans of any ideological stripe.

Sorry, but I wouldn't trade 4,000 American Lives + almost a trillion dollars for the #2 guy in Al Queda. I am glad we got this lowlife, but the costs have been far too great. I would rather see a good portion of these 140,000 soldiers used in Afghanistan where the situation has deteriorated so badly, the army there is asking Washington for a new "plan". We can continue to fight terrorism smarter in the middle east with special task forces and intelligence instead of hundreds of thousands of soldiers on the ground.

Al Qaeda must issue all their # 2's red shirts or something...

Wow. She stopped to buy some diapers for her kid. She's such a good Mom!

Why is this even news?

"Wait!...this BREAKING NEWS just in!! Joe Biden has just stopped off at a 7/11 to pick up some Twinkies and a Mountain Dew!" Said a shocked cashier "He's such a great guy! He gave me a $3 for a $2.92 bill and told me to keep the change. He really cares about the little people". :)

Now that Obama has a 13 pt lead

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/ ... tRailInner

tonite's debate may be the final nail in the coffin for McCain, unless he can say something to really turn things around. Rumor has it he's going to keep playing up the Bill Ayers thing. We all saw how well that worked for Hillary.
Clearly the American public is tired of these negative attacks the McCain/Palin camp has been trying these past few weeks, as seen in the polls. If McCain can't assure the electorate that he has a solid plan to get our economy back on track, it doesn't matter how many "terrorist pals" Obama has in his neighborhood.
