I looked over the Brookings Institute white paper that JRod referenced, and their EMTR listing for Obama's plan does not show an increase. They show a slight decrease of 0.3-0.5% compared to current law. McCain's plan shows cuts across the board, even compared to extending the Bush tax cuts. This is based on Figure 8 on p. 24.RobVarak wrote:Well apparently The Tax Policy Center study that you cited swallowed it hook line and sinker as well:
As in 2009, about 15 percent of households would see an increase in their EMTR. Households in the $30,000 - $50,000 and $75,000 to $200,000 income ranges would be the most likely to face an increased EMTR.

That quote is from the Brookings paper.Brando70 wrote:I looked over the Brookings Institute white paper that JRod referenced, and their EMTR listing for Obama's plan does not show an increase. I'd like to read the report in more detail to see if I can figure out why the numbers are different, but that's what I noticed at a glance. Again, I'm no expert, so I may be misinterpreting this info.
I agree this sucks, but how could he restrict that 30%? Aren't those people that get paid "under the table"? If not, could you explain who exactly makes up that 30%?RobVarak wrote:
What's interesting is that we've gone on for page after page, but there's really been no disputing that included in Obama's 95% number are the 30% of American workers who pay no income tax already.

Oh, for f*ck's sake: You moved to Atlanta from Florida. You haven't experienced a real winter since you left Jersey, man!JackB1 wrote:beautifully saidBrando70 wrote:...before the icy nutsack of winter teabags us.

Sorry, but I wouldn't trade 4,000 American Lives + almost a trillion dollars for the #2 guy in Al Queda. I am glad we got this lowlife, but the costs have been far too great. I would rather see a good portion of these 140,000 soldiers used in Afghanistan where the situation has deteriorated so badly, the army there is asking Washington for a new "plan". We can continue to fight terrorism smarter in the middle east with special task forces and intelligence instead of hundreds of thousands of soldiers on the ground.Teal wrote:http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081015/ap_ ... ea/ml_iraq
Another Al-Queda operative assumes room temperature in the 'illegal' and 'ill advised' war in Iraq.
