OT: Soul Caliber IV (no impressions yet)

Post by ScoopBrady »

Who's getting it and for what system? I'm not the biggest fighting game fan but I really loved the first Soul Caliber on the Dreamcast (still beautiful after all these years) and I'm excited for this one for whatever reason. I never checked out 2 or 3 but I've heard they're not up to par with the original. Maybe that's why I'm excited for 4, because it's getting great reviews. My copy shipped from Gamefly early yesterday morning so I hold out hope that it arrives today but most likely not until tomorrow. I went with the PS3 version simply because of Vader and the PS3 d-pad. I'm actually excited for a fighting game.

100% percent my situation as well Scoop. What has me intrigued is Yoda vs Vader. The rest of the game is a been there done that.

GF sent my a copy out yesterday as well (PS3).

I was reading that this Vader exclusive to the PS3 and Yoda to the 360 is just at purchase. At some point both characters will be available through DLC. I wonder how much that will cost us?

I think the Colonel is a PS3 exclusive currently but you'll be able to get it on the Xbox 360 version of Soul Calibur for 500 MS Points. :)

I think this game is stellar. Custom characters are hoo-larious. I made all of the characters from Watchmen. Saw Gandhi fighting the dude from '300' the other night. Not so psyched about the Star Wars characters, but it doesn't interfere TOO much.

This game owned me this weekend... I played through all the single player story modes on Normal, and loved all the alternate endings. They really did a killer job with the art direction in this game.

Once I get feeling back in my right arm and left thumb, I'll probably create a character and take him/her on-line... (PS3 Version)

Yeah, I thought I'd be playing Power Pro's 2008 all weekend, and this sucked up all my time instead...

A warning!

Just a heads up for serious SC IV players:

Beware when facing any Ivy players online or offline in any competitive vs. matches! I say this because you all will probably see many, many more people playing with her once this gets around. What, you ask? Apparently Ivy has an infinite move that is ridiculously easy to do and just about impossible for the opponent to Air Recover/Air Control out of, so it's possible to get helplessly juggled to death once your fighter gets knocked up in the air! A move like this great upsets the balance of this game and can ruin any match involving her. Even hardcore dedicated SC players have been outspoken to ban this move in any matches that takes place within their community.

(PM me for the link if you want to see the move. I won't post it in this thread.)

This game is a RIOT!

So last night I create a character for the first time and the game generates a really gay (not that there's anything wrong with that!!) looking guy, so I go with the flow and make him skinny with purple chain mail and bright yellow panties... Of course I I name him Roddd since he has an extra long rod.

Anyway, second time I take him on-line I face a male character who is even more flaming than my guy. No clothes, just black undies and George Michael style facial hair. I was laughing so hard watching these guys fight that I lost... It was SO freakin' funny.... Good times... good times...
