I've finally given up on MVP
The lefty bug is...well, bugging me. I can deal with the steals and walks. In fact, the walks issue can be somewhat helped by adjusting the throw accuracy slider.
But this whole lefty issue is terminal. I ran a few more tests, and it is definitely there. I've been trying to think of a workaround for it. The best I could come up with was to adjust the power attributes of all the hitters. That idea went down the tubes when I realized that it may fix the in-game stats, but simmed games would result in inflated numbers for the left-handed hitters.
It's time for me to move on. MLB just didn't do it for me. I gave it a go, and I can see why some people really like it, but there were a couple niggling issues (check swing, no sliders, bland presentation) that kept me from getting into it. ASB is looking really tempting. If I can get it for $30 at Gamestop I just might give it one last chance. Otherwise, ESPN is my last hope.

Sorry Tim, but I wanted to put this out as a new thread. I have been a big defender of MVP the past 2 weeks, and I've been trying to find solutions to the problems. I thought that because I finally gave up, it made sense to create a topic for it instead of it getting lost in the middle one of the other threads.

You must be thinking of OS. I don't think there are 30 threads on MVP in this forum in total. Sure, we probably didn't need this thread but I only see 4 or 5 threads here bashing the game. I think we've done an excellent job of keeping our impressions and disappointments condensed...just my opinion though.TCrouch wrote:This is probably just me...but I'm so sick of hearing this stuff. If somebody doesn't like MVP, great. If they don't like MLB, great. Roll with what you want. We already have 30 "MVP's HUGE GAMEBREAKING BUG" threads...
That's cool. People will complain though. It's just human nature. I would rather have it contained in a few threads. That way I can easily ignore them if I choose. Maybe we need a sticky?TCrouch wrote:No, Leebo, I'm not thinking of OS. 30 threads was obviously an exaggeration, but when the SAME bash-threads are the ones bumped at the top for a week, it gets old. I've stayed out of them for the most part, I'm just so weary of MVP hating.
Yeah, it sounds a lot harsher than intended. And you're absolutely right; people will complain no matter what. It just seems that people all want to be the "Simon Cowell of video games". A self-proclaimed video game connisseur who finds any flaw imaginable and blows it up to mammoth proportions. Obviously this isn't directed at anybody specific...just the "mob" as a whole.
I wish people would just go play whatever the hell they like. I know, it's asking a lot

Matt,
I'm in the same boat. I tried to play a game last night and thought well maybe I can work around the lefty issue. i've worked around the walks the steals and other stuff.
So Larry Walker comes to the plate and gets a big red meatball and I have pre-loaded my swing for a pull hit. The ball dive-bombs at coors field and Larry Walker can't take one out at his home field. I just said, well that's the last straw.

I, too, am bailing on MVP. There's a lot to like but I started to get the sense that this game would wear on me over time. I managed to get $34.50 for the PC version on Half.com, so it only cost me a little more than a rental to try it out.
I honestly don't know what I'll do for baseball this year. Now that I have a PC that can run the game, I may even buy HH 2004 and mod the hell out of it. I'm actually hoping ESPN winds up being a nice surprise, but I'm not holding my breath.
