Quite easy to tell this game will not have any long term online play with those with the 360 or the PS3. I haven't demo'd it yet, but reviews are so mixed that I can see this game fading fast. It's a shame because those Toca nights were some of the best online experiences I ever had gaming. And here I am not a big time race fan.

I don't know...seems like there's quite a few of us non-gearheads here who like the demo...

I haven't tried the demo much, but there's nothing in the demo that makes me think the game won't work just as well as ToCA3 for online racing with the DSP crowd. It's not like we got a lot of mileage out of the more exotic or unusual cars in ToCA, anyway, like the Silver Ghosts or what not. I just hope there are enough true race tracks to keep us going, and that the US section is as fun online as I imagine it could be, and with good track design, too.
I'm looking forward to trying some MP in the demo.
EDIT: Of course it won't be the same without the heart-tugging dramas of Symmons Plains!

I tried the demo and while the graphics are top notch the driving physics leave a lot to be desired. When you turn off all the driving aids the car just gets loose but you can still point the car in any direction you want without any penalty for transfer of weight etc.
The game reminds me of a mix between PGR4 and Full Auto with the rewind mode, WTF. The drift mode is annoying because the cars don't handle the way they should. In other words in a sim type game the physics model gives you feedback as to what the car wants to do and where it want's to go. With GRID you never get that feeling. It's like ok the car just spin out or the physics engine just gave me too much oversteer. It's either or in this game.
It looks to be a fun game as the AI is very fun to race but it's not worth $60, no way. I'll wait till it drops in price like i'm waiting for Burnout Paradise.

Zep, after the total lack of enthusiasm I've displayed for the preview material, you'll be surprised to learn that I agree having played the demo.Zeppo wrote:I haven't tried the demo much, but there's nothing in the demo that makes me think the game won't work just as well as ToCA3 for online racing with the DSP crowd.
That's not to say I'm too enamoured with it - the touring cars are horribly light and floaty, the controls aren't tight enough to allow for any precision in the otherwise worryingly enjoyable drift mode and the AI veers from great to suicidally dangerous with barely a moment's notice - or that it's a game I'd ever play in a time trial mode, because the actual driving isn't that much fun to me, but as a racing game against a bunch of like-minded players (Hell, even against the AI if they straighten out the why-are-you-turning-in-on-me-again wrinkles) this GRID business might just have something.
Mate, I even think the flashback thing works well...

Ditto. I'll be picking this up on release day. Excellent presentation, awesome graphics on top of the really fun arcade-like racing. The mid-race action replays look incredible, and I love how you can jump into the replay and go back in time and restart after a crash. Haven't tried it with the racing wheel yet, seems like it might be better with the controller....tjung0831 wrote:Just downloaded it and played the demo....It will be a release day pickup for me without question.

After much more time with the demo I think this game might bring back the glory days of DSP Poker Night Racing!. Since it is more accessible to guys like me who don't want to spend hours tweaking or learning every nook and cranny of the track, it may attract a larger crowd of DSP online racers.
When is release day?

I'm not sure if this old/predictable news, but MP details were announced today.
12 players with full damage, with fully customizable settings.

The only info I didn't see is if you wanted to fill the field with CPU drivers. Not sure if some people were hoping for that feature.Players can also fully customise their game including switching damage on or off, enabling catch-up mode, setting driver aids and allowing public and private games.

I really am looking forward to this release!
Anyone have any pointers on the drift mode? I won the 1st and the 3rd race on default settings, but can't come close to winning the drift mode. I know you are supposed to drift as close to the cones as possible, but are there any other ways of racking up big points? I also have a hard time linking drifts and getting combos. Its real easy to spin out your car if you give it too much gas while drifting. It is fun though.

Jack, the cones have been the key thing for me - if you can get close enough to a few of those and then either keep a long drift going or link a couple together, you can get right into the highest scoring category. It is easy to spin, you're right, but it's a bit easier to manage the drifts if you keep more speed up and have a fairly small drifting angle, so that the tail isn't hanging out too far.
I don't know of any other way to run up a big total, and with the way the scoring is set up I can't imagine there is one. I'm open to being educated there if anyone's got another way.
