Impressions Part 2 :)

Ok, switching to the aerial cam seems to have really helped the framerate for me. I also have the ticker off and ball trails off.

You can change pichers and lineups for the CPU controlled teams, not sure if it was like that last year?

Just had a REALLY enjoyable game at home vs Cleveland. I LOVE PITCHING, best EVER in a game so far. I have maybe seen a few meatballs, but alot of mistake pitches have been high or outside...

The fields seem so much better on aerial view as well. You can REALLY tell who's running the basepaths as I hit one in the gap with Ankiel and he legged out a triple.. the ball was thrown offline and I slid in just under the tag.. VERY cool hit and run.

Base coaches have helmets (just for those who want to know) :)

Did I say I LOVE THE PITCHING in this game, feels very fluid once you get it down and you don't always put it where you want to.

Love the throwing meter now for pickoffs

Hit variety is worth the price of the game for me so far. Tons of hits all over the place and plenty of foul balls.

Hitting seems much better, but not as fluid as The Show. Again, MUCH better than last year.

Playing on Pro right now and the CPU throws mostly strikes... although I'm walking batters.

I'm slowly moving towards disappointed to happy. Really wish the game was buttery smooth though.

Aim the ball icon where you want it, then hit A. He should put his glove there.

Man, I don't know what to think. There are people on OS saying the framerate is "unplayable" and others who say you barely notice it on throws, but nowhere else. People changing their TV settings, etc....

I think I'm going to pick it up on th way home and just pray it works alright on my LCD monitor......

However, everyone (mostly) is raving about teh pitching and the batting.....

I don't know if I am going to pick this up now. Maybe if it drops in price or I can get it cheaper a month later on ebay i'll get it. But right now, I'll take the show over this one.

Can't believe you guys are saying the graphics took a step back. If it helped out w/ framerate I'd understand. But it looks like it doesn't.

All I want from a videogame is to put it in the system and play. But if people are switching tv settings, changing field cameras, adjusting this and that, than that doesn't sound too enjoyable.

1280x720 and use the "aerial" cam for fielding. It's still there, but less noticeable and I love the way the OF looks huge, like it should.

I'm playing mine on a Dell 24" monitor.

I was more "wowed" playing The Show demo at my neighbor's house, but this game is good enough for me NOT to spend $400 on a ps3.

For those of you who have a ps3, I would think The Show would be most people's choice.

Like last year, there's warts, but the gameplay seems much better to me thus far.

It sounds like the PS3 gets the worst of the frame rate problems. From the IGN review:

"This happens even more so in the PS3 version of the game where the framerate is once again a step below Xbox 360's."

Other than the occasional chug, the graphics look the same as last year to me.

Ya I just read on OS some guy compared the game on 360 and ps3 and he said ps3 framerate was really bad.

How is the actual gameplay? Does the cpu throw balls? Are there alot of hit variety? The IGN review said all hits were blasts to the outfield, nothing down the lines.

I've had a bunch down the lines myself, especially when trying to pull the ball. Lots of variety.

CPU seems to be throwing mostly strikes to me, but I'm still swinging at everything. I hate the whole step thing, I think I ended up turning it off or way down in the last version.

Hate to talk sliders already, but I believe there are sliders to adjust the liklihood of the CPU to throw balls, even specific to the count.

Is the swing stick responsive, meaning, does the batter seem to swing pretty close to when you are moving the stick?

In scanning reviews, I am not getting that "warm and fuzzy" feeling I thought I would be for this game. Most of the major review sites and mags are giving it 7/10's...no 9's whatsoever. Most gamer reviews are lukewarm, with a lot of bitching about the framerate issues. I can't understand why the game isn't as smooth as last year's, when the graphics aren't better? On the other hand, most people LOVE the pitching and fielding interfaces. It's just weird that there are almost zero glowing reviews that say stuff like "best baseball game ever", etc. It seems like most folks were expecting a much bigger upgrade to last year's game and are feeling a little letdown by the minimal improvements made to the game?

I was very suspect when no demo came out before today. It seems like 2K wants to capitalize on all those folks that rush out on day one and get the game no matter what. I also think that 2K will get the framerate issues ironed out with a patch /update in a few weeks. In looking at videos of the game, it looks extremely similar to MLB2K7, so I think we should all just expect the same basic game, with new rosters and some new gameplay controls for fielding and pitching. Everything else seems pretty much unchanged.

Didn't 2k say that it was a 3 year project, and by year 3 everything would be polished. It's year 3 and at least for graphics and framerate, its sounding like they took a step back.

Can a patch fix framerate problems? I didn't think it could, but I could be wrong.

Just played my first game.

Framerate was atrocious, no matter what I did.

New right stick pitching is difficult but cool. I really like that idea. Actually I really like all of the new right stick additions.

Graphics have taken a step back, but I would hardly call them poor looking.

Petco Park looks pretty sweet, imo.

Framerates hurt the game for me, but it's not a bad game by any stretch. At least it appears that way after 1 game. ;). That being said, I can't imagaine this game taking much playing time away from The Show in my case.

well there is enough in this thread to make me not open this game now. I'll return it to best Buy tomorrow and get Army of Two instead.

Bkrich,

Did you try chaning the fielding camera angle to aerial like Mizzourah did? Perhaps that'll make the game more playable.

I don't get you people. Haven't you ever heard of waiting? Patience? Renting, even? ;-)

I'm definitely renting. I'm very much looking forward to playing this game. Everything seems improved, except for the frame rate issues. I dealt with the frame rate issues with Madden and NHL 08 on the PS3 that I do not wish to buy another game with that problem again.

I just got a round to reading the IGN review. I know, its IGN and its just a sites review, but this guy loved MVP (as did everyone) and his closing comments are really just a downer for me.

"The features are plentiful and will keep most busy for some time, but for this year’s best and purest baseball offering you’ll have to look elsewhere"

Its somewhat OK as I bought a PS3 and will have THE SHOW, but I was hoping this game would be good enough to get the nod as the game to get my online fix in. I guess I need to get some more friends on PSN. Like I said, OK for me, but I feel for everyone that only have a 360. The series and the game had so much promise I thought after last year.

Something isn't right. In all the preview videos, and the beta impressions on OS, I don't recall seeing or hearing anyting about frame rate hiccups.

I see them at .. well, 1280X 1024 over my VGA adaptor. Maybe I'll try dropping it down some more, but that's just whack.

I would hope a patch can solve this. I remember that Wresltlemania 21 on the old Xbox had "the wrong master sent to press" and they had to release a patch to get severe stuttering to stop.....

Maybe this is the same in this case.....

Aside from that, I am liking the game. I just played 7 innings as my Nats Vs the Cubs. Good news, it only took me an inning or so to get the pitching down, and I didn't give up a single homer, even on a few meat pitches.

I apparently need a lot more practice hitting however. ;)
