Sorry if this has been posted already.
So we might have two good hockey games to choose from? Hmmm

I was thinking the same. Not many dipsy-doodle C. Pronger just like that, having said that, I'd like to really learn some of those moves in the game.

AI looked pretty good in the All Star video. Neutral zone play could use a little tightening, but some of that is a function of the user's play style.

My PS3 decision has been made easier. Once again, EA drops the "puck" on the PS3 version.

IGN review of NHL 08 (360 version):

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/819/819016p1.html

8.0 Presentation
While it doesn't feel quite like a TV broadcast, there are plenty of nice touches. The Stanley Cup celebration is excellent and the inclusion of real AHL players is a plus.
8.5 Graphics
A good animation system, attractive ice, and great crowds make for a game that's pleasing to the eye.
8.5 Sound
The play-by-play hasn't changed all that much since last year, but it now has a direct correlation to gameplay. The crowd is intelligent and the sounds on the ice are good.
9.0 Gameplay
The opponent AI is outstanding. This looks and plays like a real NHL game. It's not perfect, but it's the best AI EA has ever had in a hockey game.
8.5 Lasting Appeal
The Dynasty Mode is stronger than ever with better trade logic and pickier free agents. The addition of online leagues and support for 6-player online games is huge.

Now for the bad news PS3 owners. EA once again does you a huge disservice. With its first NHL title on PS3, EA has really dropped the ball visually. While the gameplay and feature set is identical to 360, the framerate is not. And while EA would like to say the PS3 version runs at 30 frames per second, that's questionable. PlayStation editor Greg Miller put it best upon first seeing NHL 08 running on PS3: "It looks like they're playing hockey under a strobe light." You can still play and enjoy NHL 08 on PS3, but don't you deserve a perfect framerate? Shouldn't you demand a better-looking game? Write your Congressman and get EA to pay the PS3 a bit more respect. Nearly a year into its life, the PS3 should have sports games that run smoothly.

Yeah, EA can stick the PS3 version up their ass if the competitor is offering 60 fps. Thanks, EA.

There's a link at Bill Abner's Blog to goalie control. Its doesn't seem to "rubberband" you back into position. If there's no return to center net option, I'm going to scores in the double digits.

I hope its well done. Knowing EA, its probably half assed.

Ditto. It's 2K for me - I've had it with EA effectively forcing people to buy 360 versions.

It's just a damn shame for PS3 owners. This will be an easy 360 version for me. I had my 1st fight on the demo last night and I was pummeled by T. Bertuzzi. The mechanics for fighting was lousy, but I ended up winning where it most counted.

Out of the dozen or so games I have played only one of them had fights. The strange thing is that there were 3 fights in one period. I lost all three. I had little to no idea what I was doing.

Also, what's the story with the PC version? Any news on whether it will be the same as the 360 or just a port of last years game? I've already had a freeze with .6 seconds left in the demo on the 360. If the PC version was the same i would play that because of reliability as well as modding.

Operation Sports: Are the PS2/Computer versions of NHL 08 going to be the same minus the graphics as the 360/PS3? Also will the dynasty mode be longer then 10 years?

David Littman: There are some similarities such as the skill stick, the AHL and some AI improvements, but the PS2 and PC versions were done by a separate dev team. Dynasty is now 15 years long.

I posted this in the 2k8 thread so I'm posting it here. Instead of using this thread for impressions please start a new thread for impressions when you have them. Please don't start an impressions thread without having any actual impressions though. That's how we get impression threads with 25 posts of crap. Thanks.

Pressing pre-impressions may be expressed here, however, unless impressionable posters get the impression that the impressive pressure to post impressions precedes subscription to Scoop's proscription and thus begin prematurely posting impressions.
