I give it two weeks before we see this game up in the "for sale" thread. LOL. Just razzin ya. Owning a PS3 sure saves me a lot of money!

By the way, Hollywood Video had a good four rentals in stock by my house.

I'm guessing multi-player is probably worth the $60 alone.

I think Bioshock is single player only.

I don't think there's multiplayer for Bioshock. Might be wrong though.

No multiplayer. I'm going to try and get through it in the next three weeks. If I decide the replay value isn't there, I'll trade it in for Halo.

So far, the game is terrific. It's got some of the best elements of F.E.A.R., Resident Evil and Half-life 2, while looking as good if not better than GOW. Can't go wrong with that mix.

I've read that the game changes each time you play through.. but just playing through once should be quite an experience.

I mean Dan, how many times have you bought a game and then traded it in? Many sports titles will do that to ya.. but a good 20-30 hours is well worth the price imho.

I'll post more once I delve into this game tonight. I figure some cold beer, kids in bed and wife at work should quite a night gaming wise.

Definitely no multiplayer. After watching the demo through, my wife actually forbid me from playing it until she gets off work...it had that much of an effect on her just watching it. It's closer to a movie or good story than it is a game...she can't stand watching a game after all these years, but she was more inquisitive about the little sisters and the journals and whatnot than anything else. I haven't seen her that "hooked" on a game without playing it...well, ever.

I decided to buy just because a 20 hour plus game (probably longer since I suck) will take me a few weeks or longer to complete if I want to play some football as well.

I have never played a game through more than once though. In fact, I can't think of a game I've restarted after finishing, although I am very tempted to give ICO another shot. If I can get 20 plus hours out of Bioshock and sell it sometime for $35-40 I'll be happy with the entertainment value.

I'm very impressed so far, especially with the sound.

I could do without all the maze mini-games. Every time you want to hack something you have to do it. It's not all that hard, although I'm sure it will get harder but its not fun. Fun the first time, now its just a pain in the ass.

I rented because with these types of games, i'll play it once through and want no more of it.

I am having problems with the hacks. The ability to save at anytime during the game is a great plus. If I have nightmares tonight, I'll know why... :x

I'm absolutely loving this game! I even like the hacking minigame. Having trouble with the Big Daddies though, as I got caught in a spot where I needed to kill 2 with very little good ammo for the big guns.

I've played maybe an hour or so of the game. It's great but i'm frustrated because of a number of bugs. First, I can't run the game in DX10 mode because there is a bug with my on board realtek HD audio. I get no audio past the opening FMV. The only way to get the sound to work is to play the game in XP compatible mode (I have Vista x64). This appears to be a problem with any version of Vista and Realtek HD audio. So i'm missing out on DX10, and since the only way to force AA in the game is with DX10 i'm missing out on that too. The Jaggies are annoying when the rest of the environment is so damn nice to look at.

Also annoyed with the FOV bug on widescreen displays. This is problem on the xbox version as well. You actually see less of the picture with a widescreen display vs. a 4:3 display. I think i'm just gonna wait until a patch is released before i play it again. I'll probably just start over from the begining. Very frustrating.

I can't believe all of the hype that this "problem" has caused on the 2k boards. You're talking about an inch of space, give or take, that you're not getting. Like that is really ruining the experience. I just don't see what the big deal is. I mean people are saying they are canceling their pre-orders and sh*t over this? Wow. Gamers are a picky bunch. Annoyed, fine...but refusing to play the game because of it. That's ridiculous.

As for your issues with Vista...that is precisely why you partition your hard drive. Being a computer guy, I'm surprised you didn't do that already. Games all run better in XP for now. Sure, in 6 months to a year, that probably won't be the case with DX10 in full effect, but for the near future, it's the only way to go. And why the heck are you running Vista x64? Nothing is even written for that yet.

I do think the widescreen issue is fairly big deal. I'm not like others who would cancel a pre-order for it. It's just that plus the other bugs i'm experiencing that has me waiting for a patch.

First, i hate the idea of rebooting every time i want to play a game. So far there has been little to no performance hit on the games i'm playing. At least not to the point where I would notice. ALl the games run smooth.

Vista x64 runs all 32 bit applications fine. It has a completely seperate Program Files x86 folder for applications that run in 32 bit mode. It has worked flawlessly. I can also run any application in XP SP2 mode as I did with Bioshock. The game worked fine, I just want to run it with DX10 and some AA. When i decided to go with Vista I knew i might run into some problems but I also know that SP1 is already in beta and things are getting better every day. Like you said, in 6 months time there shouldn't be any issues. I can wait. And besides, i'm sure a patch will be released for Bioshock long before that.

I'm not too far into the game yet, but some brief impressions:

-The images, memories, and feelings that the song 'Somewhere Beyond the Sea' brings out in me have been irrevocably altered. I wonder if whomever handed out that license knew what they were getting into!

-Overall presentation: Atmosphere, Environments, Art, Music, etc all *fantastic* I'm exploring nearly every quare inch of the place not only to make sure I don't miss the audio diaries (also great voice acting) but to simply look at and read all posters, banners, and signs.

-It's *worth* the above exploring in gameplay factors, as you can grab lots of upgrades, ammo, etc.

-Plasmids are fun to use!

-The hacking mini-game 'feels' like re-wiring a bot or security system to me. I enjoy doing it, but I usually do enjoy puzzle games in general.

-Some very freaky scenes and set pieces.

-Enemy AI is not all that impressive yet, early in the game.

-Some Doom-3-ish enemy spawn trigger points that feel fake and gamey, taking me out of atmosphere a bit.

-Combat feels just a little bit clunky to me a when using conventional (non plasmid) weapons.

Overall, a great experience so far, and I just wanted to keep seeing what I'd find to look at or listen to around each new corner.

This game had cemented honors for greatest music ever about 20 seconds in. The use of La Mer for the intro scenes and all the great 30's music throughout is just sublime. Don't want to spoil anything, but their use of "God Bless The Child" is simply genius.

For my money this is the best package of sound, art and design in the history of videogames.

I played for a bit last night, I think it was 1am when I finally had to go to bed. :)

Exploring is a MUST, tons of cool things in some of the dark areas of the game.

It's great playing in my computer/gaming room late at night, the sounds are amazing. The whole game has me really immersed. Can't wait to play some more tonight!

I actually had a goosebump-inducing moment last night.

I was looting something on a desk and reading about it, and when I turned around there was literally a splicer just standing behind me, clearing his throat. It was so close that I actually had to double take to realize that it was an enemy that had just begun bashing me. Had a full sneak-up-on-me-and-creep-me-out moment.

I had the same thing happen to me. I wonder if it was scripted. Was it as you were going though a part of the Medical maybe Dental area.

He did hit, me but I turned around and said WTF and started to bash him with the wrench.

Yep, that part is scripted, so be careful because this veers spoiler-y. Got me too! :)

It's not too often that a game comes out that has this quality of storytelling, visuals, atmosphere, and audio. As if the 360 needed another system seller with Halo 3 coming out next month. After next month the 360 will have 3 bonafide system sellers in Gears of War, Bioshock, and Halo 3. A lot of people seem to think that Mass Effect will be the 4th.

That's why I intentionally didn't say where, when, or anything else about it. It's almost like "wow I got shot". It could be anywhere, and it's not exactly spoiling a story twist or something.
