Whoa, that sounds like it could be a lot of fun.

I can already hear it now, "pass me the puck, Jack! F*CKING PASS THE PUCK JACK!" :D I seem to remember that one from a night or two of Rivals.

From GameSpot...
online team play is the mode for you. In this mode, up to three players can connect online and play on the same team from individual Xbox 360s or PS3s, creating three-on-three match-ups on six distinct consoles (of the same type, naturally), all playing over online connections.

I'm interested to see how that works out because EA games are known to be laggy online. It's a cool idea "IF" they can pull it off.

Producer said it should be as smooth as offline play which is probly why its only 6 consoles still and not 10 or 12. Next year hopefully.

And for the record i had hardly any lag in NHL07 online ,2k6 and 2k7 gave me much more problems in my online leagues.

Yup. And developing all of those youngsters.

Too bad they'll probably be a .500 club in real life though.

Could this be the game that makes PK break down and finally get a 360?

MORE:

http://www.5w-g.com/?p=271

"But you can create more than just a player. Whole teams can be built, with a wide selection of uniform designs that be colored and tweaked as much as your heart desires. When that’s finished, you can replace an existing NHL team and use them in Dynasty mode. Don’t think the Nashville Predators should exist in the first place? Get rid of ‘em and do your own thing."

If this 6 separate 360s thing really does come off and works well, then of course this will be my favorite sports game ever (for the time being). Two on two is probably the best setup, but if all three on a team understand the game of hockey then it can be just amazing (can't tell you how many 'can we turn offsides off, please?' we would get back in Rivals). With three on one team, at least one of the three has to go the player-lock route, if not two, but two on two is plenty good and different enough for me. I hope they pull it off!

Online leagues is nice too, but it's not quite there yet for me without injuries and trades as part of the package. Still, not having to input game info into some module somewhere and having stats automatically tracked is great, assuming games actually get played. Here's hoping they allow for free scheduling, where you can play your season games in any order. If not, I won't be interested in the automated league.

Imagine the 6 on 6 play that PS3 users will be able to enjoy....this is shaping up to be a video game hockey orgasm if everything that is being claimed and stated about NHL08 comes to fruition....

I have imagined it, and in my mind's eye it looks a like like a U-8 soccer game where everyone is chasing the puck everywhere, there is no proper spacing, and offside is called every 2.5 seconds. I think it would be little more than pure chaos the way we tend to play video games.

Personally, I would LOVE to try the goalie online in the game, assuming the supposedly 'new' goalie-cam is good and the controls are functional (don't give me complete freedom of movement with the goalie, please, I would prefer to have a virtual bungie chord keeping me attached to my crease which I can stretch around but keep strafed facing in the right direction and when I let go of the stick I smoothly get back towards the middle of my goal). However I do think its appeal would be limited for most. In Rivals when we played 3 on 3, I would usually player lock to a defenseman, since I never saw the use of having all three forward positions under human control. Needless to say, the pass back to the point wasn't a very popular choice by my teammates.

Well, we'll see how the final products shows. I am leaning for the 360 version because of the online possiblities with people that I know better but the PS3 version is a candy to be had too. However I do prefer to play online with all the actual rules on, offsides on, icing on, etc.

This sounds too good to be true. If this game sucks, I will personally hunt down this reviewer to the ends of the Earth and bring Tie Domi with me.

"I’ll put this as blunt as possible; NHL 08 is a brand new game and EA SPORTS has outdone themselves again. I have never seen a team pay this much attention to detail on every aspect of hockey. The three features discussed above shatter every thought about this game being a continuation from last year. Sure there are basic similarities, but incorporating the big three above set this game far apart from its predecessor. I can’t stress how amazed you guys will be when you play this game. The look and feel of this game is something that has to be seen (or played) to believe. There is so much to do in this game and so much to explore in terms of gaming modes or in game action. My congratulations go out to the EA SPORTS team who worked on this game. You guys did an amazing job with this game and I can’t wait to play it again as soon as possible"
