Now with B. Shanahan finally re-signed, Rangers are favoured in their division and should make some noise in the playoffs. They are very close to the salary cap though.

They're all on there, brother. But this one is double-circled in red. :)

So when the league has problems filling up seast in places like FLO, ATL, CAR, NAS, why not try then London. As in England. Two California teams facing each other at the end of September, maybe Bettman has plans to expand there  .

In the meantime none of the three eastern Canadians teams will meet their counterpart western teams for next season. The schedule gets better every year...

The Oil signed Sheldon Souray to a five-year deal today. Definitely will help the power play and the team's toughness. Plus it will soothe the fan base, which saw Lowe fail in the early UFA frenzy.

How sweet would this be? http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsbu ... 16647.html

If they would only pick another weekend other than Bowl weekend.

The more I think about the Souray deal, the more I like it. Sure, Souray is somewhat one-dimensional as a power-play cannon and isn't the greatest passer out of the zone like Pronger, but he will bring offense and toughness.

Souray's presence also should help Pitkanen develop with a bit less pressure. If Pitkanen was the only marquee guy brought to Rexall this fall, he would be under a ton of scrutiny from the fans and media. But Souray will attract a lot of that attention, which will help Pitkanen.

It's funny: The Oil went from having a defensive corps so bad on offense that they often played five forwards on the power play, with Stoll and Sykora up top. Now the Oil has two strong offensive defensemen, which will allow the forwards to move where they belong. And Stollie still can move up top at times to unleash his potent one-timer, which also can be a weapon from the half-boards or top of the circle if he plays forward on the PP.

Finally, at least the Oil and Kevin Lowe did SOMETHING. Souray might be seen as a bit of a desperation signing, but the guy can score on the power play, which is what the Oil needs desperately.

Plus being an Alberta boy, Souray really wants to play in Edmonton, from what I've read. That's half the battle in wooing UFA's to Edmonton, ensuring they really want to be there.

Take care,
PK

Well, S. Souray will surely help the Oilers' PP, but I think he's still a liability on D. I also see J. Stoll as the other point man, if the need is there. A good sign but what EDM needs is another forward.

James:

I see Stollie and Souray on the point together only as a desperation move for late-game offense. Both are nearly identical players on the PP from the point -- BIG shots and little else.

Regardless of how good Stollie is as a defensive forward, and he is good, he's still a forward playing defense when the puck leaves the opposing team's zone on a short-handed chance. Combine that liability with Souray's defensive deficiencies, and you're asking for trouble.

The only advantage to having Stollie on the point is that it gives MacT the option of having two good face-off guys on the ice in case either Stoll or one of the forwards gets thrown out of the circle.

I really hope Pitkanen does well in Edmonton, but not too well.

Man, that's HEAVY. Thanks for the link. What strength his parents showed to sit and talk about their little boy just two months after he passed. And what class guys Fisher and Phillips are.

And finally, if all of us here had one-10th of the courage of that little lad ...

Thanks again.

Yeah, that story was shown during the Sens' run in the playoffs in TSN and it just shows the class and dedication to the community some of these Hockey players have. Even during the heat of a playoff run, they had the heart and time to spend with the kid. Enough said about M. Fisher and the ohter guys involved. After the story, the whole Nation was rooting for OTT then, even Leafs fans.

OTT just traded P. Shaefer to the Bruins for S. Donovan.

The Carolina Hurricanes have acquired forward Matt Cullen from the New York Rangers for defenseman Andrew Hutchinson, forward Joe Barnes and a third round pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Cullen had 16 goals and 25 assists in 80 games for last season for the Rangers. He had one goal and three assists in 10 playoff games.

It will be Cullen's second stint with the Hurricanes. He was part of Carolina's Stanley Cup winning team in 2006 as well as a key figure in the Brind'amor weekly circle jerk.

Yep. Center Ice has increased in price every year since the lockout.

2005-06: $129
2006-07: $149
2007-08: $169

I don't have any other season sports packages, but have the prices for MLB Extra Innings, NFL Sunday Ticket and NBA Season Pass risen annually the last three seasons?

Still, my anger is moot. I'm getting Center Ice, regardless.
