Mine has DVI, but doesn't your monitor have to have some kind of HDCP or something support for the ps3 to work?
Maybe for 1080p but i'm not even sure about that.
Doesn't really matter, wife would make me sleep outside with the dog if I bought a ps3. ;)

I'm waiting until next year to re-evaluate my console desire. If MLB 2k8 and NHL 2008 are supurb games and the 360 is still much cheaper than the ps3, I'll get me another one. The Show on the psp is my baseball game this year.

Sony's first-party slate for this year:

http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/46990

Interested in Heavenly Sword, Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank. Also Warhaw and Little Big Planet.

Also some talk about Wipeout next year and 8 Days.

None of these games are big system sellers but does help build up the library.

The numbers are shaping up to be decent for the last part of the PS3's first year:

"Sony plans to release 90 third party PS3 games this year and 15 exclusives from first and third parties, according to new investor note from Lazard games industry analyst Colin Sebastian.

Some of the highlighted PS3 software at Sony’s event this week included the Game Developers Conference hit Little Big Planet, the multiplayer SOCOM Confrontation, Heavenly Sword and Pain, a downloadable title which lets you launch your character into comically painful situations using an oversized slingshot."

http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?optio ... 1&Itemid=2

Those numbers may include games already released though.

Of course you're making the major assumption all of those will ship on time. Seems to me almost every game has been pushed back for the PS3.

Most everyone will admit the 360 controller is hands down a better controller than the PS3. Overall, it feels more solid and the design layout is nicer, especially for racers and FPS.

However, what I've noticed in the brief time I've had the PS3, is that my hands do not cramp up or get that tired feeling after playing for more than an hour or two. I guess it's size or the layout of the PS3 controller, but either way, it's a positive for me personally.

Personally, I prefer the PS layout. And you're right about not feeling as crampy after lengthy play, I wished it had the rumble feature though. The L2-R2 shoulder buttons are better on the PS2 I think, but overall it would be perfect for playing WE.

I've always preferred playing WE with the PS controller. I just didn't have that overall comfort feeling with the 360 and that game. I'm curious to see how NBA 2K plays with the PS3 controller as well, because the 360 controller was great with that particular game.

I haven't tried the X360 controller but I couldn't get used to the Xbox controller (the S) in the brief time I tried it.

The reversed D-pad and analog stick I couldn't get used to.

Main complaint against the PS3 controller is it's too light. When they add rumble, it should be a big heavier.

Having rather long hands/fingers, the ps & ps2 controllers were always waaay too small - I always had to buy 'wacky' 3rd party controllers to avoid hand cramps.

the 360 is near perfect. I always loved the orig xbox controller (not the 's', but the BIG BOY). Most people hated it, but the bigger the better for me.

Well, I hold something huge all the time so it's kind of refreshing getting to hold something smaller every once in a while. (Thank you, thank you. I'll be here all week.)

I like the PS3 controller but agree it needs to have a little more weight to it. I love the 360 controller though. Those triggers and the analog sticks are outstanding. I really wish Sony would change their analog sticks instead of using the ones they have for so long now. Their analog sticks lose their grip after so long and you end up needing to buy a new one. I went through 2 Dual shocks and 2 Dual shock 2's because of the grip of the analog sticks wearing out. I've never had to buy a replacement Xbox or 360 controller.

There are numerous aspects of the ps/ps2/ps3 controller that need changing. Of course the addition of rumble and a some more weight is a given. The controller has always been too small for me. The angles don't feel ergonomic enough either.

I also hate the placement of the left analog stick. This is the year 2007, why the hell is the directional pad STILL in a more prominent position than the analog stick? The sticks are also too loose and the grip isn't very good.

Another problem is that the new triggers are curved the wrong way, making it too easy to have your fingers slip off the back of them. Sony put almost no effort when "designing" the sixaxis. It seems like they just tacked on some new "features" (motion sensing, triggers) in a lame attempt to keep up with the competition. I guess that's what happens when you dominate the industry for so long.

Yeah, that totally confirms suspicions.

Dude, you made a joke and I made one back. At first I was going to respond with "Just because you can't measure up to a clit doesn't mean every woman has a penis", or something to that effect, but I went with changing what you wrote.

And just so everyone knows, db originally wrote "Your wife has a penis? " and I changed it to "I have no penis! ".

Now, do you have some PS3 impressions to bestow upon us or are you just doing your 'gotta read every thread' thing?

edit: There, I changed it back for you sweetie.

I woulda went with that...it was a little more creative.

I don't have impressions since I don't have a PS3...but I am reading all of the impressions because eventually I actually will get one. Is that allowed?

Well, I didn't want to one-up you so I remained at your level of creativity.

With as much of a technophile that you are I'm surprised you haven't picked one up yet, especially since it doubles as a Bluray player. I thought MLB would put you over the edge.

Well...to be quite honest...I'm saving for one of those rock things that girls like to have on their fingers...so that eliminates 700 dollar purchases right now. Like I said though in the MLB thread...probably before next seasons game comes out. Plus, I've already got a pretty nice collection of HD-DVDs for the 360. I wouldn't be in it for the BlueRay player really.

I think I could pull the trigger right now at $500 but there is something psychological about that $600 barrier that I can't get over. I guess it's because that $100 difference would pickup the tax and a warranty or game.

That's why I say 700...cuz that's where you're at when you're done...AT LEAST. Just can't justify that at all.

If you trade in the 360, then you wouldn't pay tax barring you bought it from Gamestop or EB Games. I'm sure you're aware of that however.

The fact that you don't have to buy a network adapter for the PS3 is pretty nice. However, having to fork over money for component cables is ridiculous in my opinion. They should already come bundled with the system.

I'm just really enjoying the PS3 right now. Moreso than I thought I would. Maybe it's my familarity with the menu setup, which is basically a carbon copy of the PSP. However, there are a lot more add-ons obviously. I'm digging the Playstation Store. There's already a sufficient number of demos available, along with trailers, PS1 games for download, etc. It's not as flashy as XBL, but it definitey is not disappointing. And hey, it's free.

I'm assuming I can't download demos when playing MLB or any other game?

Downloads definitely are a lot slower, at least for me. I've heard others say it's starting to get faster, but I seem to recall my connection strength was only 45 percent. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

Load times still plague Sony's consoles. It's not as apparent as in the past, but Resistance sure took longer than I expected for some screens to pop up.

Also, you'll encounter the "please wait" comment when accessing the Playstation Store. Nothing major, but it's not as speedy as XBL.

Still, I like the setup just the same. Clean lines and easy to manuever.

Yeah, I never would have bought mine if I didn't do a side job to pay for it. I'm glad I did the side job though, it's a nice console.
