OT : Layoffs :(
We were hit by surprise at our company where they annouced layoffs today (on a freaking Wednesday!) due to outsourcing.
Anyway, I survived but the other 2 departments I work with, 20 people in total, got laid off. I don't feel happy at all that I survived since I had to see so many people crying and sad. I'm in total shock right now. They were very good decent family people, now I'll probably never see them again in my whole life. I guess I am also feeling guilty that I survived and they didnt.
But the writing is on the wall and I guess I better start looking myself.
Just wanted to get this off my back so I thought best way was to post it on dsp.

Umm...that's the best thing you could come up with to get it off your chest? That's worse than a Jack thread since it didn't even happen to YOU!
But seriously, you're right, it's time for you to start looking if most of the people around you got canned. It's just one round, and there are bound to be more if they are outsourcing. Good luck in the job hunt.

Yup, my advice to you is to start looking.
My wife works for Comcast here in Denver and they came in one day and laid a bunch of people off without any warning. The people that survived felt all good and tingly inside feeling they had survived the cuts and were safe in their job.
The very next morning the same thing happened....and then the next day.
For 3 days strait, groups of people were being pulled into a conference room, offered up severance packages and then escorted to their desks to gather their belongings and then out the door.
Sorry to hear about it man, it's never fun.

Agreed with everyone here, the writings are on the wall and you should start looking yesterday!
About 2 yrs ago, the company I worked for decided to sell a part of the business to another company, needless to say everyone in my group did not like it. I gave it a chance by sticking with the new company for 1 year but they are completely clueless about what we do. My group started to lose alot of people and I finally left 1 year later. I later found out that many of the ppl I worked with also left.
Time to move on.

Funny my wife's cousin worked for Comcast in MA and they started swinging the big axe with no warning too. She worked there 13+ years and how they did it was sad. She got a memo to go to a hotel for a "meeting" then 3 at a time they were told "your fired" and they couldnt even go back to the office to get their things until a rep could watch them get their stuff. No wonder people go "postal" i mean treat people with a little respect and it goes a long way, if not then i guess the night cleaners can pick up the shells. I can handle a boss saying we just dont need you anymore to my face then the sneaky sneaky non-personal tacticsPRBoom wrote:Yup, my advice to you is to start looking.

Good luck in your search Javi. What line of work are you in, BTW?
My current company has laid off some people, but it's been a few in one department one week and then a few in a different department a month later.
There doesn't seem to be much job security anywhere today. I can't but feel like the worker bees are constantly getting shafted while the queen bees keep adding to their fortunes by constantly "restructuring" the rest of us.
The good news Javi is that there seem to be more job opportunities now than there was a few years ago.

Well we got news today of a bunch of upcoming layoffs where I work and needless to say there were a lot of depressed people there after getting the news, luckily I'm in one of the departments where no one is losing their jobs but still it's a sad day for a lot of people.
