Same here. Whatever happened to the old GoneGold forums crew?

I'm in, assuming I can find my installation disk.

Are we planning on using Roger Wilco, Teamspeak, or some other voicechat program (I haven't stayed on top of PC gaming after XBox Live came out).

So, does that mean you're going to join us, you SoCal DICK? :)

Hope so!

Far out, Jon! Not sure about voice. I'll have to defer to the PC gaming vets.

Back when I did leagues for this game, we used both programs to voice-chat. I'm sure it's gotten better since then. This was back when 1.5Mbps connections were considered uberfast.

OK, I'll give the cable a test run with this, then, unless voice comms are a necessity in which case I might have to let you lot get on with it. To clarify, I need the most recent patch and nothing else in order to run with you?

Ah - what's the estimate on total running time? 10.30 ET is 3.30am for I, which is no problem since I keep peculiar hours anyway, but it'd be nice to have some idea of when we'd be finishing.

OK, I'll set up the room on the NR2003 servers as "DSP 150" with the normal "siam007" as the pass. I freed up some ports and I *think* you can connect via direct IP even if the server is listed on Sierra's servers, but I'll need somebody to test that with me if possible.

Running time, you're looking at 60 laps in the mid-to-high-40 second range, with yellows and whatnot...probably around 45 minutes to an hour.

OK looks like you can't connect via direct IP if it's a registered server, so that idea's out.

It will simply be:

24.205.227.115
password siam007

Use the direct IP connection to join. I'll throw the server up at around 10PM EST with 45 minute practice or something. It's Daytona, so won't be a lot of practice required other than drafting. Should put qualification at 10:45 sharp, then we'll skip Happy Hour once everybody's back from their piss breaks and whatnot and start the race.

Fan-f*cking-tastic! Watched the Truck race last night -- GREAT race -- and part of the Busch race today to get pumped up.

Probably won't help me much ... :)

Are we using voice chat? If so, what program should I download?

Thanks,
PK

I've never set up a voice chat server, so I don't know...doesn't matter to me, though.

Is ther any thing special we need to do under yellow conditions in order to get green again ?
Does the spotter tell you what to do under yellow?

Excuse my ignorance i dont know the rules.

And Terry are you setting it up hardcore or are we gonna be able to select a camera angle? Im good either way but i think im a safer driver in the bonnet cam.
Damage off hopefully as even the carefullest drivers and i realy try to be one of them can leave the line a little and stray high, so if someone is there crrrrunch squeeelll,,cough ,cough smoke.

I do hardcore for driving aids only. As for damage, it's somewhat of a necessity, unfortunately. We may be able to try it without, or on arcade at least, but NASCAR isn't as unforgiving as GPL. You really have decisions that you may not make if you aren't worried about damage. I'll leave it up to whoever posts in this thread, though. I'd at least run Arcade damage, given a Choice. Simulation preferred.

As for what you need to do during yellows...stay in line, don't wreck anybody, and if you get out of position the spotter will tell you "Stay behind the #28 car"...etc etc.

What kinds of times are you guys getting for qualifying? I'm in the high 48's right now with the Bob Stanley Qual setup (only goes for 4-5 laps before blowing up though).

The fixed setup servers only allow you to run one, so if you're going to run anything, then just run the BS_Daytona_R1 set, I think it's called. I'm going to throw the server up now for the hell of it though and see if anybody shows up.

I'd prefer Simulation damage for just the reason you mentioned, Terry. It prevents drivers from trying something crazy because they know the outcome could be severe.

Good fun last night, fellas. I need more laps at places other than Daytona.

Let's race again sometime soon!

Welcome aboard, Adam -- glad to have you in the broadband world.

Take care,
PK

I knew I would have problems just "re"installing my momo.. I did not know how to get my car in reverse after overshooting my pit.... then I called a tow 2 feet from my stall and had to sit there 5 minutes.. thats a quick way to get 7 laps down :)

Yes, ridiculous fun. I used to pride myself on not making mistakes in NASCAR races online, yet that's all I did tonight. I went from 17th to 1st in traffic under green by carefully picking my spots, then dropped to 8th on the first pit stop (the AI ALWAYS kicks my ass on pit stops, I have no idea why I don't practice them more), but then got drilled by Kyle Petty on the first yellow, took quite a bit of damage between that and a second drilling in the same caution period...lost the draft and dropped like a rock. I eventually made the critical misjudgment of trying to catch a pack of cars that had checked up to avoid a lapped vehicle and ended up taking out several AI cars and blowing my motor in the process when I slammed head first into the "safer barrier"

After that it seemed anything I did all night was hotshoe it in practice, qualify like an idiot, and then completely lose my mind during a race. I'm going to need some serious seat time because I feel embarrassed by my performance. It was fun (it always is), but I made more mistakes than I can even count tonight.

There's always next time, though...who's in for tonight?

Terry:

I'm questionable for tonight. Going skiing all afternoon with the fam, then to my folks with Frau and the kids for dinner as my oldest brother is in town from Philly. I want to watch Daytona when I return home, so I probably won't be free until 11:30ish EST.

Maybe I'll look for your server and jump into a late race, as that was fun as HELL last night. Yes, you were right, so go ahead and say, "Told you so!" :)

My fuel strategy might have paid off with a top five if I knew how to command my team during pit stops and didn't overshoot my pit stall!

Sorry about bailing on Cali last night. I was woefully slow and didn't want to screw up anyone's race with endless cautions. Plus it was getting late here -- go ahead, tell me to piss off, Adam, as you were up all night in England racing with us! :) -- and I needed some shut-eye for skiing today.

I can easily see where this game could become an obsession for me and can see why you cats were so fixated over it in the past. Running three-wide in the draft at Daytona or in traffic anywhere is a big-time rush.

Same IP and password as last night?

Take care,
PK

Pk we were all having trouble at cali and it got worse at richmond LOL .

In the main event i got flagged for speeding in the pits, flagged for exiting wrong, was always too far forward or back. One stop i couldnt get to my pit stall as you pulled in ahead of me and your stall was before mine and it looked like i was before you with that tiny number they hold up geez. So any way if you were bumped in the pits it was me trying to go around you to get to my stall.

I have a better idea of yellows now but still realy dont have a clue.
Thought the AI may have been a tad fast no ? but i guess the more traffic we run in the more chance of errors.

But had a great time and with laike 6 trips to the pits for flags and fuel how the hell did i come in 12th.
