I do not believe courses will be anywhere near $10. Keep in mind MS was offering DL content courses both real and fictional for $5 roughly 3 years ago. From what I understand this went well for MS, but unfortunately the game tanked from a commercial perspective.
I don't get this, Tim. MS offered courses for $5 in 2003. So you think EA is going to offer courses for the same price, three years later?

EA will just trot out the same mantra as every developer trying to justify their feature-stripped, pretty-graphics next-gen games: "Development costs have gone through the ROOF!" and hang a price tag of $7 to $10 per course.

That price may be justified due to the expensive nature of building 18 holes instead of just one stadium, but hell, buying six extra courses could double the retail price of the game. That's a rip-off.

Take care,

Charging for alternate jerseys and video strategy guides in Madden, a game which already costs $59.99, is just sheer arrogance, plain and simple IMO. At least EA won't be able to get away with that crap with Live, where everyone else is playing the competitor's game.

I doubt it, as long as the stockholders are happy.

No, that was not what I intended to infer. What I was inferring (and not very well it appears) is that courses will cost more than $5 likely. However, it would be better if EA packaged a group of courses say 3-4 for $15 or so like they used to do for the PC version of Tiger.

I have no idea what their pricing strategy might be. You might be right, you might not. However, I will contend that the market will dictate the direction that this process goes. If they price features too high, they won't sell. They will change course if they want the business model to work.

If 6 additional courses cost $60, I agree. EA will have to package the courses in such a way that it appeals to those who want the added content, but is not cost-prohibitive to the average user. They used to release course packs (3-4 courses for $19.99) for the PC and then held online tournaments for prizes and cash during ther TW99-2000 PC days. If they have something like that in mind, it might benefit everyone who plays the game online.

I don't ever remember course packs for the Tiger Woods brand of games. I remember Links used to come out with a 5-10 course pack for 20 bucks...but never Tiger. I just remember getting them all for free from the Tiger Woods community guys.

I think that was when the series was PGA Golf and Not tiger woods, but they did do course packs way back when.

PGA TOUR Gold, Tiger Woods 99 and TW 2000 for PC all had course packs. TW99 had 3-4 different course packs during its lifespan. I remember buying all of them and then playing them in official Internet TOUR tournaments. I remember the Vegas Course packs along with the Buick course packs as well as others that escape me right now....

They only considered that they get your money for the download.

But they don't get money if you're just playing online against someone.

Didn't J. Allard say there would be user-created content available for download?

Stuff like levels or new tracks?

You wouldn't expect user-created NCAA rosters for legal reasons. But maybe some fictional stadium or golf course would not have legal problems.

Of course developers would have to make it possible to use user-created content. At a minimum, having file formats anyone could use, rather than some proprietary format. But more practically, they would have to give you tools to edit or create this content and the ability to import it into games.

Now, publishers have no reasons to help users create this content since they would be competitors for these microtransactions.

Another pitfall of console gaming. They sell way more copies than PC games but they shut out modding and enhancements because they want to grab those opportunities to make more money.

What game are you talking about? If it's Tiger 07 for the 360, what makes you say it will release next week? Both EB Games and Gamestop (same company, but whatever) have it as the 17th still.

Yesterday they had it listed as shipping on the 9th. Now it is back to the 17th.

Just got Tiger 2007 for PC and it supports my widescreen at 1650x1080. Plays alot like 2006, but is not as forgiving in TrueSwing and the graphics overhaul with bloom and depth of field effect take some getting used to. The dynamic lighting and dynamic clouds are a nice touch with the moving cloud shadows.

Yeah, but $7.50 to unlock the stratus clouds is outrageous.

I bought the game through the EA downloader service. Purchased the UK version that was released 9/22 this past Thursday once I finally got around to reinstalling a fresh copy of WinXP.

The game states that it does not support 1680x1050, but it does. If I were you, I would wait til Wednesday (available at EB) and let the store know it might be coming back if it does not support your resolution. Having gotten back into TW2006 PC for the past couple of weeks, TW2007 is alot of the same, but I do like that TrueSwing has been tweaked to be a tad more unforgiving and the courses look a bit more organic and the water effects, especially the waterfalls at Aviara is a nice touch.

I haven't been a Tiger Woods fan in a LONG time, it will be interesting to see how it plays on the 360.

Divot, What type of machine you have? Top of the line?

I played TW 2006 last year and was debating picking up the new game.

Here is the IGN review of the PC version...Xbox and PS2 also posted on the site.

It took me 2 1/2 hours to download the game. Par the 1st two holes until my eyes gave up, but at least I was awake enough to notice that the game is beautiful, the graphics are at par with NHL 07. Tiger never looked more serious in the game. It's in my wish list for sure.

That's what their website is saying (showing 10/17 as the shipping date).
