Hines will definitely be in there Thursday, should be a good game.

Was surprised that Ike got signed as I thought they were going to possibly leave him go through free agency and save the money for Troy later down the road, I am very happy that they were able to sign him though.

Well looks like Big Ben is definitely out for a few games at the start of the season as he just had an appendectomy today.

Oh man, that sucks. Hopefully he recovers nicely AFTER the Miami game. At least you have Charlie Batch as your backup. That is good news for Steeler fans...no more Tommy Maddox.

The season flashed before my eyes when I saw the ESPN ticker. The first time I read it I saw "out for season" and missed the "opener" part. I then rewound it and took a big sigh, although it is going to be tough. They have a very tough stretch to start out with Miami, Jax, and Cincy. At least the bye week is early this year.

There is nobody after Batch. I guess they are going to sign someone, especially if you consider how fragile Batch is. I can't possibly imagine they would use Jacobs from the practice squad as the number 2 QB.

And I actually bet that will happen HipE...there isn't anyone else out there that knows the system that can be ready in 4 days. He's the most likely candidate.

And Leebo...now you know the feeling I had two years ago when Ricky retired from football a few weeks before the season started, resulting in the 4-12 season for Miami. It's just a horrible feeling when your best player can't go.

I'm hoping they will try to sign Brian St. Pierre, who was with the team for a couple of seasons before the Ravens signed him right before last season. He just got cut yesterday, and I'd much rather have him than Maddox. I think I'd even take Jeff George over Maddox at this point.

Only thing Cowher said after practice was that they will be looking to bring in a veteran to back up Charlie. I don't think there is any chance of that veteran being Maddox though, more than likely it will end up being St. Pierre.

Da Bears!

Best season opener I've seen from them in a long time. Defense looked as good as last year, and now they have a passing game. The only negative was that they settled for FGs instead of scoring more TDs.

I watched the Carolina-Atlanta game yesterday, and the Panthers looked like ass. Not sure if it was just losing Steve Smith or what, but their offense looked out of synch all day. The Atlanta d-line completely dominated them.

Looks like the Rams are going to the super bowl

I watched the seahawks game and it filled me with confidence...I think the big babies are still crying about their ass kicking last super bowl.

It was the first game so I'll remain happy. I thought that the playcalling in the Red zone was more of the reason they didn't score then anything.

For example they get the ball on the 16 and try a half back option. All they did when they got in the Red Zone was run and throw short passes, they didn't take any shots into the end zone.

Overall it was a good game, but the Packers are probably the worst team in the league so there is still a long way to go.

Seahawks trade their 1st round pick for D. Branch.

T. Green hit his head pretty hard yesterday which knocked him out. I thought earlier that it was a dirty hit by the Bengals player but I think R. Geathers was pushed from behind too which made the impact harder on Green.

Bobby Engram, Darrell Jackson, and Joe Jurevicius hardly dropped anything last season. Burelson will replace JJ and he is known to have good hands...the only guy who had any problems last season was Stevens. And he was pretty good last season except for in the Super Bowl.

But it is a good pick up, he's basically a younger version of Bobby Engram...perfect for the offense.

Did anyone else like the Nessler, Jawarski, Vermeil booth better than their actual booth?

I'm happy with what I saw from the Bears but I would like to see them finish off drives. It seems as if they really held back in the red zone after Grossman's pick. I really liked the way they moved the ball though and the running game will pick up with more work.

The no hand part may have been true in 2004, when Robinson and Jackson dropped a lot of passes, but last year the recievers were very good.

Not sure why you're calling them weak-minded.

Vermeil gave some fairly recent coaching insights of players, especially lesser-known players like Castillo. And he was giving commentary on great block or nice double-move in real-time. Maybe he shouldn't be stepping on the play-by-play but shows the coach is looking at things outside the main camera.

Contrast that to broad, superficial info. from Madden.

Vermeil did use some superlatives so it'll be interesting to see if he'll always say that about most players or whether he reserves that for a few players.

The latter would be more credible whereas coaches have been known for puffing up opposing players before games.

I love Jaws, but everytime I heard him analyze something I thought I was watching Monday Night Countdown instead of a live game. Took a while to get used to it.

Me too, plus I think Nessler is the best in the business. I just don't get why they went with the bland, boring, trying so hard to sound emotional but still coming off like a robot, Tirico. The guy is pleasant enough, and very good technically, but he really should stick to the whispers of golf. Nessler rules. Give me him, or go outside the box and get me some Gary Thorne! Hell, I'll take Sam Rosen fer crissake, or Musberger, just spare the snooze-fest of Tirico.

Brad Nessler is damn good, but I always associate him with College football. Maybe it's just me.
