Say what you want about Keenan, but he has won a Cup. Something Pat the Irish Drunk has not done as the head man.

OK, the overlays on OLN's coverage are f**king horrible! That huge bar near the top of the screen showing the score is bad enough, but the oversized team logos attached to it are even worse. And what the hell is up with the dark tint they have applied to anything above the bar? It serves no purpose, and is very distracting. Why not just move the bar to the very top of the screen?
I stopped watching the Detroit-Edmonton game during the last powerplay because the giant powerplay timer with its dark background was the last straw. The whole top of the screen is a mess of crap getting in the way of the action.
I hope to god the Sabres-Flyers games will all be shown on Comcast Philly, and not OLN. They have had all season to fix their coverage but it still looks like s***.
I was actually so annoyed I just submitted the complaint below to OLN on their feedback form. If anyone agrees with me, here's the link where you can submit a complaint of your own:

"Hello,
I have a very big problem with the NHL coverage on OLN. I had to stop watching the Detroit-Edmonton game 15 minutes ago because the top of the screen is a mess of oversized overlays that look awful and get in the way of the hockey.
I can't believe someone at OLN thinks it's a great idea to have a huge bar near the top of the screen and then have everything above it shaded with a dark tint. It's very, very annoying to look at. And then to make matters worse, during powerplays the big powerplay timer with its unnecessary dark background obscures even more of the action.
Please, please can someone at OLN look at how the overlays are done on the Flyers games shown on Philadelphia's local Comcast station, and copy them. I'd like to watch the NHL playoffs on OLN, but I just can't bear to look at the total mess obscuring the top 15% of the TV screen."

Just finished watching the Sens' game, an entertaining 4-1 win of the Stanley Champs. Getting ready for my double header with the Flames-Ducks coming up only to learn that S. giguere has a lower body injury and is not playing tonight. As usual during the playoffs, everyone tries to just generalize the injuries. Too bad, I was looking forward to the battle between the kipper and Giguere.
It was entertaining, even for this Lightning fan10spro wrote:Just finished watching the Sens' game, an entertaining 4-1 win of the Stanley Champs. They had thier chances,2 off the crossbar and 2 or 3 good looks at an open net and couldn't cash in. This was thier's to steal and shift home ice advantage. You hate to say must win this early in a series, but the Lightning are facing just that on Sunday. No Khabibulan to bail them out this year, not to mention the Sens just dominate the Bolts anyways. Where's the Flyers when Tampa needs them

I looked around Direct TV for OLN and the other one is something called TSN.Inuyasha wrote:what god damn station are these games on this year? I only see the redwings on oln, where are the other games?
Couldn't find either.
But in the 600 or 700s, the Sharks game was listed but it said I don't get the channel in my area. Didn't tell me I could order it. I thought it was NHL Center Ice channel.

NHL Center Ice. OLN is showing double-headers most nights. But if you want to see the games that aren't on OLN, you'll need Center Ice.Inuyasha wrote:what god damn station are these games on this year? I only see the redwings on oln, where are the other games?
Thankfully, I have it! Picture-in-picture will get a workout on my TV for the first three rounds.

Take care,

F*ck. Rolie could only do so much. Dude made 54 saves.
The Oil offense just disappeared in OT. Yeah, Detroit outshot Edmonton heavily throughout the game, but I think the Oilers actually had better scoring chances in regulation. Legace made two huge saves on Horcoff and also made a couple of big stops with about 35 seconds to go in the third.
You know it's not a good night offensively for the Oil when Fernando Pisani was arguably the team's best forward. Samsonov had some zip, and Peca was crisp when he wasn't taking penalties.
But Hemsky was invisible, Stoll lost too many draws, and Horcoff was MIA other than the two scoring chances.
Yzerman is one of the wonders of the sporting world. The guy is turning back the clock and playing superb hockey right now. Pure class, pure balls, a captain who is starting to rival the great Messier.
Detroit allowed two power-play goals, but the Wings still are playing the Oilers smart on the penalty kill, using a high box. Babcock and his staff recognize that Edmonton rarely cycles the puck down low on the power play, instead working the perimeter and point with the wings and D men and letting Ryan Smyth try to screen the goalie in the slot. The only Oilers' forward who can dig down low regularly is Smyth, but his role is to stand in the slot.
Edmonton outhit and outskated the Wings through the first 2 1/2 periods. But all of that effort showed in OT, as the much older team skated much better and won all the battles for the puck. That's experience, the NHL's version of the rope-a-dope. Take the hits early from the young, fast, aggressive team, let them skate themselves out and then pounce.
Game 2 is vital. If the Oil can't win, then this will be a very short series due to the physical and mental toll of this game. If the Oil can win, then it's game on back to Edmonton. But the Oilers were a very mediocre home team this season, so this loss hurts.
Moreau's groin needs to heal quickly. The Oil needs his penalty killing, overall grit and leadership.
F*ck. But I can take solace in that the playoffs are here, baby! Forget Capital One Bowl Week: Play the jingle instead for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, as "it's the most ... wonderful ... time ... of the year."

You went 7 games with the Flyers in '04 after sweeping the season series. Hell, if the defending champs could have beaten up on a couple more teams like they did the Flyers, they wouldn't be an 8 seed.snaz16 wrote:It was entertaining, even for this Lightning fan10spro wrote:Just finished watching the Sens' game, an entertaining 4-1 win of the Stanley Champs. P.S.: So far, so good on the officiating staying consistent with the tight calls of the regular season, if the Oilers-Wings game was any indication.
No way the minor against Shanny with less than two minutes remaining in regulation would have been called in the "old NHL," and Yzerman's interference call, Laraque's elbowing call and Peca's roughing call never would have been called before this season.
Good news. I hope the trend continues, and I've read where Bettman, Colin Campbell and Stephan Walkom have read the refs the riot act concerning rules' enforcement. If a zebra swallows his whistle with any regularity, he could be removed from the playoffs.
Take care,
PK

Wow, good s***!
Talk about the Oilers no names scoring, what about Maltbys 2.
And no offense to Messier but I think Stevie surpassed him. I know they won 4 but in a short period overal. The wings have been at or near the top for 15 years. People give them crap, calling them the Yankees of hockey for paying for the big name, especially at the trade dedline, but look at their draft picks. Lindstrom, Fedorov, Datsyuk, Zeterberg all round 3 or later. Draper for 1 dollar. The front office really deserves 80% credit.
Boy I missed playoff hockey!

No way Stevie has passed Mess. Sorry. Mess captained two different teams to the Cup.
To his credit, Stevie has stayed in Detroit his entire career. But Mess captained the Oil to the Cup after Gretzky left, something many said couldn't be done, and he led the Rangers to the Cup for the first time in 54 years. Plus Mess has six rings; Stevie has three.
I'll put Stevie No. 2 among NHL captains that I've seen in my lifetime. How's that?
Take care,

No doubt about that. This team underachieved this yr. and was fortunate to make the playoffs. As much as the Bolts own the Flyers, the Sens own the Lightning. Could be over quick.Sully wrote:You went 7 games with the Flyers in '04 after sweeping the season series. By the way, it wasn't a softie. The puck deflected off the stick of Rolie's teammate, Rem Murray. Hard to call a deflection a softie.10spro wrote:Another softy by D. Roloson. Tough loss.

I was at the Sens game last night. Loudest I've ever hear the Bank, at least before the game started. Then we were treated to Spezza coughing up the puck numerous times, Emery shovelling the puck out to a Tampa player, and lots of cutesey passes that missed their mark.
It should have been a lot higher then 1-0 for Tampa in the third, but give Emery credit, he made the stops when he had to.
Thankfully, Ottawa scored 2 quick powerplay goals in the third, and then a nice 2 on 1 shorthanded marker to put the game out of reach.
then, back to Jack Astor's after the game to watch my beloved Oil lose..... Stupid Rem Murray. Probably be the only goal he scores in the playoffs to boot!
I was impressed with Rollie though, when I found out the shot totals. However, man, they need to cut that down or Dwayne will be wore out by game 2!

So no one else hated the huge overlays OLN had on the Detroit-Edmonton game? The Canadian coverage of the Calgary-Anahiem game with its small, unobtrusive score box was so much nicer to look at. How can OLN be so stupid when all they have to do is copy the CBC?
I do like their studio coverage as Clement, Jones, Smith and Engblom are all good. And they seem to have gotten rid of that weird annoying guy who once claimed Esche had a fatal flaw that got found out in the 2004 playoffs against Toronto, despite the Flyers winning that series and going 7 games in the next one.

Cups: Messier
Cups with different teams: Messier
Goals: Messier (only by two, though!)
Assists: Messier (by nearly 200)
Points: Messier
Games played: Messier
Guaranteed crucial playoff victory, delivered with a hat trick: Messier
I rest my case.
And when it comes to intangibles, anyone in hockey will tell you Messier was the greatest captain ever. Stevie Y is terrific, one of the best of all time, but Messier is a cut above. You have to be an unbelievable Wings' homer to admit to anything else.
Yzerman is one of the 10 best players in NHL history, no question. But he's not Mark Messier. Never has been. Never will be.

My only beef with OLN is production, too. The overlays are ridiculous, and they kept losing signal during the Oilers-Wings game last night.Feanor wrote:So no one else hated the huge overlays OLN had on the Detroit-Edmonton game? Jack Edwards is no Jim Hughson or Gary Thorne, but he's solid. I remember Andy Brickley from his playing days and didn't even know he was an analyst, but he's decent. He's not Greg Millen or John Davidson, but he's OK. I've always liked Bill Clement in any role, but I think his ability as an analyst is wasted in the host role. Still, he's a solid host.
The studio team is pretty good, too. It needs someone with more personality or magnetism like Melrose, as Jonesy and Engblom try but fail in that department. Smith is a cold fish even though he knows the game.
And does anyone else just want to grab Engblom by the mane and cut that f*cking mullet?

I am an unbeleivable homer
.
That edmonton team was so stacked you could have removed half of the team including Mess and they would have won 4. And I think staying on top with 1 team as long as Stevie has FAR outways winning another cup with a different team. Any sports guy will tell you it's WAY more difficult. So if Yzerman was traded to a different team that was great and won another cup he'd be closer? Doesn't make sense to me.
