does Sony charge for onlince access, like for XBL?

sportdan30 wrote:Jack,

Did your PS2 come with a set-up disk to get online? If not, how are you getting online to download the updated rosters?
99% (I think EverQuest & FF are the only ones that cost money) of the games are free to play online including MLB 06.

I can get to the lobbies etc, but whenever I try to play somebody we never make the connection.
What type of router do you have? The easiest thing to do is to just set up a DMZ for your PS2.

Can you get online with the PSP version? If so, you can login and when you log out the rosters are still active. It even gives you a message that the online roster is still active. You could use them to play exhibitions or to start a season. The only thing you can't do is save them, which is dumb, but really doesn't matter since it takes about 20 seconds to login and get them again.
I tried that Leeb.

After it gives me the message that the new rosters are still active I start a new season and the old rosters are still there.

Too late anyways, I'm like 25 games into my Mets season and I ain't starting a new one unless I do it on the PS2.
That sucks. I just tried it again to start a new season and had no problem.

How many times have you tried connecting to someone else and was it during the same night? If your PS2 is configured as a DMZ, the problem is most likely with the people you're trying connect with.

I've tried several different people on different days. I also cannot seem to access my profile to change it or select my team within my online profile.

ya some of the routers wont work with the show. i read that netgear routers have problems playing online as well . you can get online, but when you try to start a game, it wont connect and abort.

i've played one game where i just did a straight wired connection through my dsl modem and it worked. But i dont want to keep unhooking and hooking up my wireless connection whenever I want to play the game so I haven't really messed with it.

Hopefully sony fixes this problem since it effects most gamers.

I'd check D-Link for firmware updates too.

Been there, done that.

Jason, I really do appreciate all the tips and advice. Unfortunately I've been down this path searching for a way to get this game online through my router and I just don't think it's possible.

I've opened all the ports, put the ps2 in the dmz, checked for updated firmware, etc. It just doesn't work. :(

yup, it's on sony's side. From what I've read on the 989 message boards, they are still trying to fix it.

At least they're aware of the situation. I'm sure they'll figure it out.

Boom, I have that exact same router with no issues. But when I have had problems connecting the consoles, this is what I have done in the past.

Go to the router admin page
Go to the tools tab on the top.
Go to the system tab on the right
Hit the Restore to default settings button.
All of a sudden mine worked.

Turns out some firmware updates that I had installed had killed my abiltiy to get my Xbox or PS2 on to the internet. After I reset them to default setting all worked.

bk,
Thanks for the tip, however before I do this I have a stetement and then a couple of questions.

First, I have no problems getting online with my PS2 to play Madden, SOCOM 3 or any other online PS2 game. Only The Show is effected. Also, I can get online with all of my 360 games and my son's DS also doesn't have any problems.

Now, if I reset to default settings, am I going to screw up my security settings and will have to reconfigure my network? If so I don't think it's worth doing this for one game when everything else works without any issues.

Boom, honestly I don't remember if it resets all of the security settings and such. It was late night, and I was running on fumes.

If it's just MLB then I would venture to say this would not fix the problem.. When I was having the problem I could not get online with the PS2 at all.

Strange though, I have the same router you do, and have no problems getting online with MLB.

Well, I figured what the heck and tried it. Sure enough it worked.

however, it did completely wipe all my security settings, etc. Not a big deal, but I'm wondering if like maybe MAC filtering or something to that effect was causing the issue.

Boom,

What's your online username for MLB? I'll look for you online for a game.

Hey Jason, sorry to get OT but that's a nice forum you have over there. I'll be sure to stop by more often. I saw the HH2004 thread with the former developer. Good stuff.

To get back On-Topic, I think MLB 06 could really benefit from having a tune file ala the HH games. There are so many little things I'd like to just tweak a bit, but can't.

Thanks for the compliments Bill. The former HH developer now works for Digital Chocolate. They make games for cell phones and he usually gives me the inside scoop on new products.

Diablo25 wrote:I know that when i hooked up my PS2 to my HDTV...simple hookup with composites and S-Video...it did not look good at all. It looks much better on my standard 32" Sharp TV in the bedroom. Maybe if you are using component cables it looks better but not with the basic hookup.
To follow this discussion...

I got my hands on my friends ps2 with sould calibur 2.

The game supports widescreen and 480p.

I must say the game looked great on my lcd hdtv. A few jaggies here and there. But it looked great.

I will some more games tonight that I've been wanting to play(MLB 06, Ace Combat 5, GT4) to see how they look on my tv. If they pass the test, I'll consider getting a PS2. Specially for MLB 06.

Saw a weird glitch last night. I hit a grounder right back up the middle, should have been a routine single. The centerfielder came in and overran the ball and just stopped about 5 feet past the ball. The secondbaseman and shortstop did the same thing, they both ran out and ran past the ball by a few feet. So now all three of them are just standing there with their backs to the ball in this weird triangle.

Nothing is happening so I figure if I try to send my guy to second base, maybe one of the three fielders will pick up the ball and try to throw me out, but they didn't, they all just stood there in that triangle doing nothing.

I didn't want to, but the only way I could continue the game since it was kinda stuck was to run all the way around for an inside the park homer.

It's no big deal, since it's the first time I've seen anything like that so far, but it was pretty bizarre.

I saw that happen once in the PSP version. I had to take the inside-the-park HR as well.

I bought the PS2 version last night. It looks fine on my LCD using S-Video. It seems like they slowed the pitches down for the PSP version, so I had a tough time adjusting. It's nice to see the umpires and there are some more cutscenes, but overall the versions are real close. I didn't want to have to purchase essentially the same game twice, but I couldn't go the whole season without baseball on the big screen. It's impossible for me to settle for MLB2K6 even if the damn thing didn't freeze. I'm spoiled now by The Show.

I still can't get over the attention to detail. I watched "Cathedrals of the Game - Yankee Stadium" on InHD over the weekend and they mentioned the "roll call." I played my first game at Yankee Stadium last night and the crowd was doing it!
