Xbox version for me as well...Also using the dreambox converter and ps1 controller.
Gotta say that since I picked up the converter about a week ago, We8 feels like a new game to me. I'm pulling off advanced moves that I never dreamed about trying before and my overall ball handling is much improved due to the lower position of the left analog stick.
From what I remember hearing, the improved player momentum has me very excited...Pretty soon I'll be critisizing games on Fox Sports World for not being as realistic as WE.

You can also get the converter from here for a couple bucks less:10spro wrote:I always enjoyed the PS2 controller better for sports games and WE is no exception. However you can get this converter and still enjoy the game on the Xbox while enjoying whatever game save might be around for the new series, rosters etc, with the AR.

I don't think there's any need to preorder the game - just walk into a store and buy it.

The Spanish, Dutch and Italian Leagues are fully licensed. The English, German and French Leagues are not, except for Arsenal and Chelsea. Some of the other club teams in the game are licensed like Celtic, but most are not.Inuyasha wrote:Been doing some more research on this new game and as far as I understand, it has all real worldwide licenses except for the English teams? Is that correct?
In other words, to get the most out of WE9I you really need to get an Action Replay (Xbox) or Max Drive (PS2) so you can download Option files.
I think it's a good idea to put $5 down at a store.Feanor wrote:I don't think there's any need to preorder the game - just walk into a store and buy it.
Seems like more and more these days, stores are only ordering very small numbers of titles that they don't absolutely know will be blockbusters, or just a tiny number more than what have been preordered. Look at what happened with MVP NCAA. Looks as though most stores only got 4 or 5 copies of that game on release day. I bet most store managers can't even comprehend the title of WE (I think you have to ask for "World Soccer" for them to find it), much less expect a big rush at the store for it, so if you know you want to buy it, you might as well let them know beforehand.
Better safe than sorry!
If the stores in your local area are like that, then that's a good idea. Between the EB, the Gamestop and the Best Buy near my house I can almost always find one copy of a new game. I did have to hunt around to find Animal Crossing Wild World, though, because it sold out in its first week in most stores.

Not sure if anyone has said this yet, but there is a demo on the OXM disc this month. I know nothing about soccer, nothing about strategy or formations (if that is what you even call them in soccer), and nothing about the game or any real players. That said the demo was definitely interesting.
Given the high praise this game gets here, I might check it out. Is it newbie-friendly enough for someone like me to be able to get into?
Thanks,
Joe

Definitely! The lower levels will let you get the hang of maintaining possession, one-on-one moves and shooting without too much trouble. There are meaningful differences in each of the skill levels, which makes progressing through them both challenging and satisfying.

Much as I like WE, I don't think it's worth getting unless you're going to be able to put serious time into it. It's easy to win on 2 star difficulty, but it's too easy and therefore not satisfying. So 3 stars and above are the only difficulties worth playing, but even 3 stars can be very frustrating until you learn the game, especially if you don't know much about soccer.
I have the PSP version of Pro Evo 5 and it is worth getting if you aren't going to be able to play it much on the PS2, Xbox or PC. But if you are, then I don't think it's worth getting. The game just plays a lot better on the consoles and the computer with a good controller, little to no slowdown, varying weather effects including snow, Cup competitions and the Master League.
It's stripped down...no Master League, no World Cup, no online play, limited camera angles, etc. I wouldn't choose it over the other versions, but if you judge it against other portable sports games then I think it is awesome. Tons of teams; season mode; and the same great WE gameplay, tactics, and ball physics. I've been playing it for the past couple months. I think it is a must-own for any sports gamer that puts much time in on the PSP.MUTTS wrote:Will the psp version be worth getting. Is it a full version or stripped down?
Get it Jack! Although, maybe you should wait until we are sure it functions well online.JackB1 wrote:I will get the XBox version if enough fellow DSPers are playing it online or better yet, we do a WE9 DSP League. I already have ProEvo5 for the PC and am amazed every time I play.
If it does work well online, I am definitely up for at least a couple DSP Tourneys. A league I am wary of, unless it is very small. I would absolutely LOVE an online DSP league, but it would have to be like 8 guys at most just to assure people stay involved.
I'm down with tourneys or leagues...I'll likely be getting the XBox version.
Hopefully online play will be good. I haven't looked at much information re: how online play has been w/PES5...I do remember that WE8:I for the PC was poor because there was no way to change the difficulty level, and I think it defaulted at something crazy (like 2 star). My guess is that won't be a problem with WE9:I. Can't wait for someonline action.

WE9 Online Hands-on
Fellas,
Konami has really focused on the online portion of WE9. It's rather basic but at the end of the day all that matters is that the game plays beautifully online. Link to Article below:

This just in...
I just got my OXM Magazine.
Pertaining the addition of XBOX LIVE to WE9:
"This is not merely additions bolted on for the sake of checking off that feature on the back of the box. A worldwide ranking mode starts your online team in the Amature League, then by playing real opponents, you'll be promoted (and relegated) through 5 divisions."
They also say that "the likenesses of the players are still more realistic than the ugly mugs in Fifa 06 on the 360."
.... "the onfield action is as fluid as you'll see on Fox Soccer Channel every day."
Fellas, I think it's time to tell the family you love them, and that if they need you for anything over the next month you can be found near your xbox.
See you all on the pitch next week.
