10spro wrote:Just witnessed another sad loss for the Pens vs the Leafs. I know it's the holidays but I could see more toronto fans today than Pitts. What's the drive like from Ontario? 3-4 hours? Here's the problem with the Pens: They have NO identity as a team whatsoever. Especially with Mario missing in action, and with S. Crosby just being assigned as Assist. Captain, isn't that too much burden for an 18 year old kid?

Now for all you Pens fans that wanted Eddie O fired, has the new coach won any games yet? This team IMO needs an identity, a leader, with Lemieux gone and with all the veterans there, everyone seems to be just floating around. This team needs a wake up call.
Not just a wake-up call, they need to learn how to play some defense. I've said it all year now, and I stand by it....

As for the Western Conference, the surprise team has to be the Oilers. They have a nice solid core of young talent, not to mention that they, and the Calgary Flames, absolutely own the Vancouver Canucks.

Most Canucks fans thought that losing Cloutier was a a blessing in disguise, I'm sure they're second guessing themselves now...

The Flyers have finally taken over first place in the Atlantic, by 3 points over the Rangers, with 2 games in hand.

We're finally starting to get healthy, although the outlook on Keith Primeau doesn't look too bright...

I for one never critized Cloutier, he's been great for the organization during regular season but his downfall has been in the playoffs where it matters the most. A. Auld hasn't played that poorly either (maybe that SO loss with the Oilers, 7-6 could be faulted) but as a young back up keeper he has to learn how to win those close 1 game goals that Canucks have been losing the last 4-5 games. Still, VAN will make a move if this latest downfall continues but our main problem is with the mental lapses on defense.

No mention of Nikolai Zherdev's coast-to-coast, flying-through-the-air acrobatic goal to tie the game with only 23 seconds left Monday night against Chicago?

It was amazing!

That was a very good game! Woulda been better if the Canes won, though :)

With the return of P. Elias to the Devils, GM Lou L. put A. Mogilny on waivers as they are pretty tight with that salary cap. Who's got 3.2 millions to spend on the Russian who's got a sore hip for awhile now and his days maybe just as well as over.

As the season approaches its half way mark, Nashville is still the Cinderella team to watch as I picked them from the beginning, while in the Eastern conference NY Rangers & Carolina are definitely the surprise of the East while the Pens are a dissappointment despite the brilliance of S. Crosby.

Moving to the West, LA Kings & Dallas are way further on top that what I would have imagined, while San Jose was a dissapointment to me as I thought they would do much better that where they stand now albeit they are an improved team with J. Thornton.

Tomorrow is the JR World Hockey finals with Team Canada hosting the surprising Russians as they upset team favourite USA, and if you guys can watch this final about 19:00 EST watch for E. Malkin, 2nd overall pick of the Pens, this guy is a total package and some experts consider him better that A. Ovechkin. Russia is a skillful team and it'll be an exciting finals to watch as they are the favourites to win it all.

No love for Detroit? I would say they are somewhat a surprise seeing as everyone before the season was saying they are to old and slow for the new rules.

Speaking of new rules, I love the fact that rushing defensemen are making a comeback. I thought we'd never see the likes of a Paul Coffey or Bobby Orr again, as they were a dying breed.

Detroit is good, but its record is inflated and deceptive because it plays in the worst division in the NHL, by far. Eight games per year against Columbus, Chicago and St. Louis is like stealing the proverbial candy from a baby.

Put it this way: Minnesota is last in the five-team Northwest with 42 points. Chicago is third in the five-team Central with 30 points. I rest my case.

The jury is still very much out on the Wings in my mind.

Take care,
PK

Malkin is extremely impressive, I know he's considered the best player in the world not in the NHL right now, but there aren't alot of NHL'ers that are better than him right now. Penguin fans should be very excited adding him to the lineup next year.

Is the World Junior final on Center Ice tonight? I checked the listings and didn't see it there.

I know Center Ice showed the U.S. games against Finland and Canada last week. But is Center Ice not showing the final because the U.S. isn't in it? If so, that's VERY lame. F*cking xenophobes.

Take care,
PK

That would be great, but I doubt my Thomson-drive Xbox could read a DVD-R. My Xbox is my DVD player since we watch about 10 DVD's per year in this house, tops, even with the kids.

Surprised? :)

Thanks anyways. I really appreciate the offer.

Flyers have the best road record in the league, earning at least a point in their last 13 road games. They are 6-0-1 on this current 11 game road trip.

7 points up on the Rags, with one game in hand, and currently sitting 1 point behind the Ottawa Senators for 1st place in the Eastern Conference.

D. Andreychuk is available to any team as Tampa is shopping the veteran around, this, one day after A. Mogilny cleared waivers to no ones's suprise.

It was a great day for Canadians as they blanked the Russians in the final of the Junior World Cup, 5-0. This team was lucky to even get a bronce medal but under B. Suter's tutelage, they showed a lot of determination and heart.

Watching Junior Hockey for me has always been a treat, they hardly make the money the Pros make, they are not as big as the NHL guys but they always put that extra effort and the games are fun to watch. If you guys get to see any WHL, AHL action you'll know what I mean.

LSkye:

Indeed, the upcoming schedule will be the true litmus test. Let's just say I haven't been blown away by the Wings until this point, at least not in the two Oilers' victories in their only matchups this season. :)

But hey, impressive win for the Wings over the mighty, mighty Blues last night. :)

Take care,
