Thinking about Switching to XBox live for online gaming

Post by wpw721 »

I game online with my PC and PS2. Could you guys give me some info on the advantages of XBox live? I mainly play racing games like TOCA 2, and Forza are they popular online?

It has many advantages but I leave the technical ones to the other guys...
My number one reason for having Live is the guys you will play with from here.
Great guys...Great fun...
Like being at the neighborhood Tavern with your friends without ever having to leave your couch....

welcome WPW,

if you love Toca 2, then I highly recommend Live...especially when Toca 3 comes out.

Check our Toca threads here, (there are many) to see how much fun we have on it.

If you get it, make sure to leave us your Gamertag.

For me it was the reason of changing our PC hockey league of 7 years over to Xbox Live - connections. It seemed every year our PC Stanley Cup Champion had two things 1) average skill and 2) A greater amount of lag on his side in comparision to other players. To me this was 50% caused by hardware differences in how his PC reacted to the game and/or his internet connection. With Xbox Live you are playing someone with virtually the exact same hardware and when you connect to him it's thru a server not directly. To me it was well worth the money each year to finally have a fair league where connections and hardware differences didn't play a major part in determining who won.

Real men don't blame their deficiencies on their connection.

For Xbox only, as the XBL capability for the 360 is greatly enhanced but I don't have one:

1. Voice communication for EVERY game.

2. Common Gamertag for EVERY Xbox Live game. You won't have a separate username for each developer/publisher.

3. Ability to invite friends, see what they're playing, from any game at any time.

4. Accept an invite for a different game and change game discs without having to turn off the Xbox.

5. Very, very smooth, nearly lag-free performance.

6. It's the online gaming service for the VAST majority of DSP forum regulars, if you're interested in gaming with us.

Xbox Live is a no-brainer compared to PS2 online unless you're a SOCOM freak.

Take care,

No, but when you've been running modem/internet hockey leagues for 30 people and 82 game seasons since April 1997 you realize what's going down. You get everyones complaints. When I switched our league over to Xbox those excuses died immediately.

Don't worry about DB. Once you have been here for a while, you understand his biting sarcasm. It is part of his charm.
