As some have mentioned in that thread, sometimes 1080i is even better looking than 720p. I would consider it a push given the price of the TV.
Yes, a 37" Panasonic HD Plasma TV, supports all three modes and goes for around $2100 on price grabber.com.
Today's price? $750
I am seriously thinking about getting this TV, even though I'm not ready for one yet.. the price is just too damn good.
I heard about this deal on the way to work this morning. I wonder what the interest rates are if you don't pay it off quickly. To think, I just paid $800 for a 32" Westinghouse. Dare I return it?

Listen to KFNS in the morning?
It seems like one heck of a deal... a plasma for $750? WOW!
I thought about you when I heard that this morning.
Yep, was listening to the Big 550 KTRS as I got in to the car this morning. LOL. They had another deal yesterday but I can't remember what it was now. I just might inquire about it today.
Good heads up Db. However, going with a 26", you almost need to have it in a fairly small room.
According to the website there are only 50 to be sold, so it's more like a raffle than a purchase. I wouldn't return your other set until you actually get one...

Yep. This thing is like a combination of Woot.com and a raffle. Pretty fun.
Next Monday, that site is selling three $55,000 Range Rovers at $6,000 each. Now THAT's a deal!
Take care,

Good luck Todd. I was going to try and snag one myself but it appears you have to have an existing AE card to apply. I signed up for one and was approved, but without an account number, I think I'm out of luck.
Yep, you need to have an AMEX account, and you only have eight minutes to complete the transaction if you're one of the lucky 50. Otherwise, you lose the deal.
I'm using a buddy's AMEX card to try and snag one for my brother. Fingers crossed.

Well, I missed it. Next chance at 2 pm et. Heck, I don't even have a card number. If I get through, I'll hop on DSP and alert those with an Amex card to see if anyone is interested.
I think I'm going to pull the trigger on that Panasonic 26"... it's about the same size as my current living room TV (we sit close) and it seems like a good starter HDTV set. I'm not that eager to break the bank on a huge setup right now, as I'm curious to see what the mandatory HDTV regulations do to prices next year. Then when we are ready for a big set, this one will make a great bedroom TV.
One last newbie question though... since the tv only does 1080i and 480p, will 720p content automatically be converted up to 1080i? I know there are some 360 games that don't run natively in 1080i, but I assume you can still play them.

On the Xbox 360 set it to 1080i and you are good to go. It will scale the games to 1080i from 720p. If we were talking about the Xbox then you could only play a select few games in HD that are 1080i. The original Xbox does not scale up and would force all non-1080i HD back to 480p since you TV does not support 720p.
Those regulations for HDTV got pushed back again. This time to 2009. You wont have to worry about that affecting the market for some time.

My brother-in-law recently purchased a Maxent Plasma EDTV from BB $1000.00
Good deal or what was he thinking?
I'm of the opinion that he rushed to a decision. Is it true that "ED" is half the picture quality of what HD is? That according to the sales guy at Best Buy.
Circuit City had a Panasonic 26" HDTV on sale for $399.99 yesterday, I figure I would go pick one up today. I look online today and it's back up to $569.99. WTF??
Slumberland wrote:Wowzers... I finally placed my order yesterday, and am going to pick it up today. I'm so glad I didn't wait 'til today to pay for it.
Didn't even see your post dammit... must have skimmed right past it. That's what I get for waiting to pull the trigger. I've read a lot of great things about that TV though, enjoy it!!
If it ever goes to that price again, I'm getting one.
thats a good deal divot. I have last years model. I am pretty sure the only thing that changed was the black around the tube. Mine is all silver. I think you will LOVE IT! I absolutely love mine. Its hefty, but once you get it where you want it, who cares lol! What a deal though, I got mine for CLOSE to that, but not that low.
