so far i like what i see.. the controls are tight.. the only issue i have is the coloring of the way points.. they are yellowish & on a green field a little tricky to pick up.. just did a single mission as a chopper pilot - wow.. i felt that i was really in there.. of course i ended up crashing, which in itself looked cool..

I should be grabbing this one tonight too.
actually it came out to 39.99 from Gamestop - was told originally i owed like 3-4 bucks, but turned out i got 7 bucks back in store credit...
Went to EB, they didn't have them yet. But Gamestop is right next to the local Taco Bell where I picked up lunch, and since they had a copy they got the sale.
Graphically, it looks about on par with the original Ghost Recon games on Xbox, with the exception that the areas are huge. So no, it's not pretty, but once you play you won't care.
The controls will take a bit of getting used to for me. They are very slow in the center, and significantly faster towards the edge of the controller. It makes sense to do it that way, so you can have more precise aiming, but it will take a little while for me to get the hang of it.
I did the steal the car mission, and it was cool. The AI seemed pretty good, this was on the second highest level. Environmental sounds are cool, with birds, bugs and dogs barking in the distance, helps the immersion a lot.
I also jumped into a sniper mission quick, and it was fun to see the group of soldiers who were my targets scatter, take cover, then pan out and work their way up the hill towards me. They took me out in short order when I couldn't keep track of them all.
One potential problem is that I could not connect to any Live game at all. Every time I tried, it said that the server was no longer available, even though when I refreshed they were still listed. Don't know what the problem is, as it did let me post my score for the Steal the Car to Live. I'll have to look into this more tonight.
If you have the PC game, you know just what to expect, and other than getting used to the controls you be right at home. those new to it may be a bit underwhelmed when they first look at it, but after playing for a while you'll see that it's a beautiful game after all.
So who's gonna be on Live tonight anyway?!?!?

Check out this online mission description from someone who has OFP at gamefaqs.com:
<<<<<
YES YES YES
Online is awesome. Take the pilot down game mode for example. You start on an island at your base with your team mates. You have a load of blackhawks and klowa choppers there for use to get you across the sea to the dessert where you have to find the downed pilots. Flying across the water in formation with your team mates in a load of blackhawks is awesome in itself. Then you have to search the dessert for the pilots, pick them up and then get them home.
Meanwhile, the other team is out to stop you at all costs and get the pilots themselves, but they're equiped with russian armour, BMP's etc.
seriously, it's superb
>>>>>
F*ck, that sounds like fun. Can't wait.
Take care,
PK

Stunner from gamefaqs.com: Intelligent impressions!
<<<<<
9/10
Best war game I've ever played.
Why? Superb realistic gameplay. Great AI. Good enough graphics. Tactical. Good mission variety and more than one way to play a mission. No constraints so you can go anywhere you want, whenever you want, no matter what. Tons of vehicles to pilot and drive. The ability to create your own missions. Endless amount of gameplay. Great campaign. Superb on Live.
Honestly, the only bad thing about this game (if you can call it a bad thing) is that the graphics aren't drop dead gorgeous, but nonetheless, they're impressive. Massive islands with no loading and vast draw distances.

Finally, a very funny post about OFP from gamefaqs.com:
>>>>>
Why do I get the feeling that Gamespot is going to dislike the game? I'm thinking it's because they will give it the graphics whore treatment and complain that it's too realistic for consoles. They basically already did that in their preview.
Here are some quotes from Gamespot that I'd just like to pick at for a moment:
Gamespot: "What's annoying about this restriction on firing is that it takes you a half-second or so to ready yourself to fire after you stop moving."
Ok so all of Gamespot's editors can apparently run at full speed, stop, and have instant and perfect shooting accuracy with any gun they hold in real life. Remember that when we storm their building for giving the game a lame review (if that happens)!
Gamespot: "Hopefully Bohemia will spend some time tweaking the game for the console audience before it hits shelves."
Translated: "Bohemia, please make Operation Flashpoint play exactly like Halo 2. Even include the Master Chief and the english speaking aliens...actually... just remake Halo 2. Thxkbye."
Gamespot: "However, fighting in and around buildings can be annoyingly difficult in the current version of the game, especially since you can take only three or four hits before you die, even on the game's standard "recruit" difficulty."
Translated: "We want magical shields that regenerate after we get hit. Where's the plasma sword?!?"
Yeah, so I'm kind of doubting these tools will understand this game.

OK. Enough lifting from gamefaqs.com for now.
Take care,

I had this same problem. What I eventually did was turn off my xbox and unplugged it for about 30 seconds. After that I plugged it back in and started up the game and had no problems from that point on.
Well, last night I had no problem at all connecting. Got into a game with a great group of guys, and we did the mission where you have to destroy a convoy of trucks and tanks in the desert. Very cool. We did it 3 times and lost every one, but had an absolute blast. I like that they left the seagull feature in. (For those who have never played it, when you die you are eventually put into the body of a seagull, so you can fly around and watch the battle from anywhere. ) I was acting as a scout-gull, flying over the hill giving reports on enemy movements! (Didn't help though...
)
After that I jumped into a crazy defend game, where I was firing a Shilka like a madman at incoming Apaches. Some slight warping on this one, but there were 16 guys in the game.
I then started the campaign, got probably 7 or so missions into it. Even though I've played it on PC, I'm still enjoying it.
And the graphics are actually pretty good when it comes to lighting and weather effects. When it's high noon they are not the prettiest things around, but when the sun starts setting and the lighting and shadows change they really look good.
Havn't even messed with the editor yet, but from the manual it looks like you can make some pretty cool things happen. If this turns out to be playable online between the 360 and Xbox, I may get a second copy to run a dedicated server box.
Feel free to add me to your friends list. What day will you guys schedule the poker night for?

I'm almost sure it will be Wednesday, replacing the now dead-and-buried Ghost Recon 2: Summit Strike Poker Night.Gurantsu wrote:Feel free to add me to your friends list. What day will you guys schedule the poker night for?

Don't know if you guys have seen this, but this is a good indication of the games graphics, and also of the huge amount of things you can do in it. It looks like the dude took pictures of his TV screen.
My personal favorites are the star shells and the soldier riding a bike. Also note how the screen darkens when you look directly at the sun.

Indeed. Crayola stuff. But the gameplay is supposed to be ACE, so I'm still all over this.dbdynsty25 wrote:Man, those graphics are embarassing.
