Then today CNN is reporting:A little more than a month ago, St. Louis voters removed Alderman Thomas Bauer in a recall election fueled by his support for the use of eminent domain. Bauer supported using the law to clear the way for a gas station near the corner of Manchester and McCausland avenues.
Worried about the potential backlash, Creve Coeur officials recently voted to delay authorizing eminent domain for a project on Olive Boulevard.
Looks like reason is finally taking hold. Even if this was technically constitutional, it is clear that this is one issue the country could actually support an amendment over.WASHINGTON (AP) -- Contending that the Supreme Court has undermined a pillar of American society -- the sanctity of the home -- the House overwhelmingly approved a bill Thursday to block the court-approved seizure of private property for use by developers.
The bill, passed 376-38, would withhold federal money from state and local governments that use powers of eminent domain to force businesses and homeowners to give up their property for commercial uses.
I meant to post something awhile back when I starting seeing the recall signs for Tom Bauer. In the end, democracy still works.
