Where are the Notre Dame fans now?

Syracuse 38, Notre Dame 12.
 
 And this is not a good Syracuse team. Yet Willingham will continue to use "tough academic standards" for an excuse why ND sucks, and he´ll stay the patron saint of South Bend even though he´s about four or five games below .500 in ND´s last 15 games.
 
 Meanwhile, Pasqualoni probably saved his job with a very gratifying shellacking of the most overrated football program in the U.S. in front of a national audience.

 Good question, but I without a true playoff, I could care less.
 
 Either way, one team is going to get screwed, and computers and sportswriters are going to determine the national finalists, not the players on the field.

 Sorry you feel that way. If you went to the campus, spoke with some of the people there, gave it a chance, you might change your mind.
 
 I did not graduate from ND. Did not have the grades nor the cash, but if I can, I will send my two children there.

 I´m not saying f*ck you to Our Lady. Give me a break. I´m an Irish Catholic who attends Mass on Sundays. Stop mixing church and sport -- that´s ridiculous.
 
 I´m flipping a big bird to the ND athletic program, especially football. It´s the most overrated college football team in America, yet it has national respect because of its rabid, blind fan base and a national TV contract in which the announcers genuflect before the altar of Touchdown Jesus every week and never say an ill word about a football program in decline.
 
 And I won´t send my kids to Notre Dame. Why should I, when there are good Catholic colleges in New York and the rest of the Northeast? What makes ND any more Catholic or pious than Holy Cross, St. Bonaventure, Villanova, LeMoyne, Georgetown or Boston College, for example?
 
 Hype, that´s what.

 As for Willingham, I don´t think he´s on as long a leash as you intimate above. Without researching it firsthand, I will say I´ve heard several sports commentators saying that Ty´s performance and, specifically, his lack of offense during his tenure has rubbed more than a few boosters the wrong way. Sooner or later, the desire for wins will take hold at South Bend and Ty´s excuses will not enough, well-intentioned as they are.
 
 That said, I still think Ty Willingham is a hell of a coach. The job he did during his tenure here at Stanford was damn near miraculous -- he coached a school completely focused on its basketball team, with virtually no scandal, an excellent graduation record and some astonishing victories over powerhouse opponents, all the while being a stand-up guy in the process.
 
 He may not turn out to be the next Knute, or the next Granny Holtz for that matter (and I know you´re not really knocking Ty here, as much as you are the ND program and its incessant hype), but the fault with their lack of success lies more in the general parity of the NCAA itself, than with anything Tyrone´s done or not done.

 I haven´t watched a minute of an ND game on NBC this year. Why would I? I did watch ND-Syracuse on ABC today because I´m a Syracuse fan.
 
 You don´t need to worship, er, watch ND on NBC to realize the Flailing Irish have their own TV package.

 I think that was pretty well outlined in my previous posts. I have no problem with the school, but I have a big problem with the overrated football program and its obnoxious fans who consider Notre Dame to be on a higher plain than "mere mortal" schools.
 
 If you want more specifics about my distaste of ND, Tim Brown´s theft of the Heisman Trophy in 1987 from Don McPherson of Syracuse, when "multi-purpose threat" Brown was ranked in the top 25 nationally in one category yet McPherson was the No. 2-rated passer in Division I and led Syracuse to an 11-0-1 record, still burns my ass. That was one of the most classic cases of the media worship of ND, bestowing the Heisman to an undeserving St. Timmy.
 
 And don´t even attempt to retort with "Who was a better pro?" as so many Notre Dame fans are wont to do when confronted with statistics. The Heisman isn´t a future achievement award. And Don McPherson clearly was the best college football player in America in 1987. Hands down.

 Sure, you could reply with "the tradition, the pageantry, the history, the spirit," like most Irish fans, as if Notre Dame was the only school in America that has all of those qualities in its football program.
 
 The Army-Navy game today had more pageantry, tradition, spirit, history, intensity and honor than an entire season of Notre Dame home games.
 
 Again, the Irish hype machine rages on.

 Willingham was a great coach at Stanford. But the pressure is on him at ND. It;s a football school. That brother better win next year or he´ll be gone.

One more thing ,I am so glad they have sucked for most of the NBC contract. I can´t believe the NCAA let ND sign that deal. Talk about conflict of intrest.
 
 Recruiting and money was all that was about. Pete I have been to ND for 3 Michigan games and about 10 basketball games. The place is full of young drunken assholes just like any other campus.

 IMO the best Catholic school I have ever be to is in the Enchated Mountains of NY. St. Bonaventure,man what a sweet campus .

I cannot f^&king stand ND, and I really do feel better when they get their collective asses kicked.
 
 Why should they get an exclusive TV contract and force us to watch them every week? I don´t watch much college football, but if I happen to be tuning in, I sure as hell don´t want to see ND coming up each and every week.

 Look, Pete, just because I haven´t watched a minute of ND on NBC this year doesn´t mean I´ve never seen a broadcast of the Flailing Irish on their own pocket PR tool, er, network. I have, especially when it´s probable Notre Dame will be destroyed.
 
 And the NBC announcers have blown ND to the hilt in the past, and I´m sure that hasn´t changed this year. Christ, Nessler and Griese were stroking ND yesterday, and they don´t even work for the Irish network.
