Your favorite football game of all time?
Just out of curiousity I'd like to take a little informal poll just to see what everyone's favorite football (American Football for you who were ready to jump all over WE or PES***) game of all time is.
Doesn't matter what generation, sim, arcade etc etc etc. Just whichever football game you feel you've gotten the most money's worth and enjoyment out of.
for me, hands down it's NCAA Football 2004 (PS2 for oinline play)

Once most of the bugs were ironed out, a method of avoiding the out-of-sync errors in online play, edited players and plays to mimic real football, and the ability to use several third party tools to enhance the game, it became the greatest game ever.
Sierra only gets 40% of the credit, but thanks to the internet and some hardworking souls, FBPro ruled my football gaming for several years.

It's close between Super Techmo Bowl and FBPro '98. I spent almost an entire Christmas break during HS playing Techmo Bowl. At the time, it was awesome, butlooking back at it today I wonder what kept me going on it for so long. I mean, only eight different plays to run?
I spent many, many hours with FBPro '98, both on and off the field. That is the first game where I really spent a lot of time creating plays, analyzing players for drafting, and building teams rather than simply picking guys and going.

Tecmo Super Bowl 3: final edition is a game I still play to this day. Tecmo Super Bowl is a close second. I didn't even like Bo Jackson until I played him in TSB, he was a beast in that game
. A close third has to be ESPN NFL. There is no better feeling than reading the middle linebacker while looking for a hole on a run play.

Simple yet addictively fun. Great responsive controls and the best side to side football game I have ever played.laurenskye wrote:I've got to go with the original Tecmo Bowl.
I couldn't believe they actually had "real" people in a video game.
I remember calling in "sick" to work just to play it. Pathetic I know.
Just read in Xbox Magazine that the Tecmo classics are coming to the Xbox in August......Tecmo Bowl and Rygar just to name a couple.
I have to go with Madden 92. Only because it was the first Madden I played and the wars I had with my college roommate are so memorable. Passing in that game was so friggin' fun. I remember I got the game for free by purchasing 2 other EA games...NHL Hockey and Tommy Lasorda Baseball. Those were the days.

Alrighty then, I have balls and I'm prepared for the flaming, drum roll please........NFL Fever 2004, read and lead passing is second to none. I had the most fun playing this game since tecmo super bowl. It's about having fun damit!

I think I have to go with Madden '95. Not because I would argue that was the best of the old-school Maddens (I have no idea), but because that remains the only game in which myself and a good friend completed a mutli-player season; we were roommates at the time. I chose the Cahrgers (loved that Natrone Means!) and he played his home-town Patriots. We each would play the other guy's opponent from week to week, and we actually finished it off, all the way through the SB.
Brings to mind the concept of head-to-head season play, which is frankly my favorite way to go through season mode. I remember in FIFA '96 doing a similar thing with a buddy who lived nearby. We did an EPL, and he took Liverpool, I took Chelsea (Dennis Wise was a freak in that game), and wow, that was great stuff. We each knew our own teams so well, and played against the other's team so often, that those 2 times we played Liverpool v. Chelsea were monumental matchups of tactics, strategy, mental gamesmanship, and an intensity unmatched by any other sports gaming experience. We didn't quite make it to the end of that season though. The other season around that time was a 3-man EA NHL season, where two of us would play the oponnent against the one. If one of us wasn't around, we would sim his games and play each other head to head in the our teams' games. Lots of simming, lots of playing, full season, 7-game playoffs, and the Caps actually won the Cup, powered by Mr. Clutch, Joey Juneau!
To date those are the only two multi-player seasons I've completed. That type of season play remains my favorite in the sports game genre. I wish that Konami had half a brain and realized that playing against a human oponnent in a season or cup/tourney mode does not violate any moral video game laws of the universe.

You know that madden 2006 will allow you to do this online right?Brings to mind the concept of head-to-head season play, which is frankly my favorite way to go through season mode.

"The additional time will also allow us to optimize our new 'EA Locker' feature. Like a memory card in the sky, EA Locker will allow users to share files online, using EA's servers, so they can play their offline franchise games with an online friend. We think the hardcore fans will love this new feature and are working to make it as strong as possible."
