In case anyone is interested, here's a link to the thread for the new release of the MLS patch I've been a part of making. A must have for any MLS fans out there if I may say so myself In all seriousness though, MLS teams in this patch are perfect for starting master leagues, as I can attest from personal experience.
So let me attempt to understand this really quick...
WE doesn't have the rights to use team names and logos but they are allowed to use player name and likenesses?
FIFA can use anything and everything.
That about right? Or is it more complicated than that (excuse the ignorance I've been out of the soccer/football loop for a while and I'm slowly coming back in)
You basically have it right, as far as I know anyway. FIFA soccer has an official FIFA license which it allows it to use anything and everything.
Winning Eleven on the other hand has likenesses for all players, however many (though far from all) players have fake names when Konami was unable to get permission from the clubs or national soccer federation of a country. For WE8, Konami got official licenses for Serie A, Primera Liga and the Eredivisie so those teams have official names and uniforms. Konami was not able to acquire licenses for the Premier League, Ligue 1, or the Bundesliga, so those teams have goofy team names and fake, bland looking uniforms by default.
Yes, this patch is built on top of the wolf evolution patch, and includes updated lineups, proper names, and updated uniforms for all club and national teams. Even includes updated balls, stadiums and boots.
Sure you can, but I don't have an xbox, so I'm not familiar with how players go about transferring the textures and sounds from the PC files onto the xbox. That's the beauty of the pc version of WE8...it's so easy to patch.
If you go back to that thread linked above, you can see that someone is already working on a PS2 conversion of the patch.

Yes it's possible, I am on Xbox with WE8 and I have all of the PC mods done to mine. However it does require some special tools that cannot be discussed on the board, PM me if you want some more info.
Naples, thanks again - it's been a great help. The patch looks tight - you guys have no doubt put a ton of work in.
Actually in my brief trip through broadbandland (the airport) I was able to download the first two versions, and am installing the second now.
I think I can manually piece together the elements that make v.3 without downloading those huge files, but it seems that the link to the option file from your site is down at the moment. Could you check on that?
just updated my site with some post 3.0 stuff including the option file, but you are right, for some reason you can't download the option file at the moment. I double-checked the hyperlink, and the file is certainly there on the ftp server, so I don't really know what's going on, especially considering all the other links work fine.
Oh well, just give me your email and I'll send it over.
Glad some people are enjoying the patch! I became a bit of a perfectionist for a while and put in a lot more time than I had ever planned on, but I guess that's a benefit of not working for a few months!
Being a perfectonist is the only way a patch like that works - great job with the details. Installed version 2 and it's great, the only problem I have is with the Puma MLS ball - for some reason it has a graphical glitch where there is a string of artifacts attached to it (hard to describe but it is like there is a string attached to the ball that rotates with it). Is this limited to my graphics card (ATI Radeon Mobility 9200) and/or has it maybe been fixed in the V.3 release?
Unfortunately the ball issue was not addressed in 3.0 though. That was not my department in making the patch, and most people don't seem to have the problem. I have a Radeon card and it happens to me too though Because of the problems, I generally just use another ball when playing.

If you want can make a small patch that will fix this problem.
That would be exceptionally sweet. I would assume it would just be a tweak to the BMP - if so, if you could fix it and post somewhere that would be perfect.
I have been trying to recreate the MLS ball to no avail since Naples and I first worked on the WE7 MLS patch. I'd love to see this thing actually work.

Many TIAs if you can pull it off.
I can pull it off. Yes, it would be just to tweak the BMP so that you are not having this problem anymore. How would you like me to post it? I can either make an .afp patch that you will need to implement via AFS Explorer or I can just post a new o_text.afs with the updated BMP.
Great, just the BMP by itself might be best, since we likely have different versions (I'm still using v.2 of the patch). I can manually insert it using Graphic Studio.
Here you go guys. I included several different BMPs for your choosing and then the ball's MDL.
Also for future reference check out, http://homepage.ntlworld.com/g.mercer1/ they have huge selection of balls along with other extras such as numbers and keeper gloves.

Don't worry the patch is still up, just that filefront seems to be down at the moment. Just try it again in a day or so and it should be fine.
