LOL, I'm a bit afraid of watching myself - I hope I don't see too much of "me" in that addict!

Based on your last post, you should take heart: You can cure an addiction in your life. Sounds like Gamefly is tailor-made for you.

You can still enjoy the hobby of gaming without the agony of your obsessive-compulsive purchasing and selling of games and systems.

Take care,
PK
Can I hear from those who use Gamefly? How much is it, how many games can you have out at a time, and how long does it take to receive the games? Also, is it hard to get new releases?

Thanks again PK.

Last week, there was a girl that was on the first three seasons of ER with a shopping addiction (and various other psychological problems), and a child prodigy/genius that turned into an addicted gambler. It was riveting stuff.

This week, one of the addicts is a video game addict. It might be worth watching...

Kevin, when is it on? This sounds like a must see for me. Thank you.

For $21.95 a month, you can have two games out at one time. I'm finding it generally takes around 4-5 business days for them to receive a game back. Once they mail a game to you, it also takes about 4 business days. Obviously, there are no late fees and you can hold on to the game for as long as you wish. You can also purchase the game if you'd like. Check out the website as there are different options. I do believe they still have a 10 day free trial going on. It's worth it in my estimation.

Gamerang is another online game rental place. I'm giving it a try this week since they have a nearby warehouse. I'm hoping I'll get games in a day or two and that they'll receive them about as quickly.

I really think it will help me reduce the amount of games I buy.

I would still say go cold turkey and quit. If you go with gamefly and find games that you absolutely love and must have, then you'll fall into the same trap again. Maybe instead of quitting, you can take a 6 month break.

Guys, I am having a tough time. I still have the PSP, and I'm feeling this need to hit Gamestop later and check out what is in today. I am very frustrated with myself.

Steve:

We can type enough advice to make your eyeballs bleed from reading it, but only you can kick-start your recovery.

Put the damn PSP on eBay TODAY for a three-day auction. The unit will be sold by Saturday. That's the first step toward a commitment to recovery.

Second, build roadblocks against heading to Gamestop. Here's one -- shame. A lot of us cats have spent time during our days to offer you advice. One, because we like you. Two, because we care. Three, because we want you to get better, and you seem to want to get better.

But if you go on another buying binge and keep the PSP when you know you shouldn't and then post two weeks from now that you have a problem and need help, it's going to be the equivalent of screaming "fire" in a crowded theater. You're going to find fewer sympathetic eyes and ears in here.

We all want to help you. But you have to want to help yourself first. If you don't, then all of our advice and time spent crafting that advice is wasted.

Don't let us down, man. Much better yet, don't let yourself down.

You can do this. You CAN do this.

Take care,
PK

Steve,

Pk is right. Time to sack it up and take some responsibility. We've all suggested some very sound advice, but now it's up to you to take over the reigns. You need to make a decision. No more excuses and skirting around the issues.

Here's what I would do personally if I was in your shoes. Sell the PSP as you have intended to do so. Put it up on Ebay or take a hit and return it back to the game store. Next, return the games that are unopened and get the cash for them. Open up a Gamerang or Gamefly account, so you don't binge on games. Lastly, contact a counselor in your area and make an appointment to speak to someone as soon as possible. We can all give you advice we deem as right and true, but you need to speak to a professional. There is absolutely nothing embarrassing or shameful in that. I'm confident you'll feel much better about yourself after your first visit.

Now, make today the first day of your new life. Good luck.

You just need to stop playing games for awhile and find something else to do... Videogaming addictions are probably best served via the cold turkey method.
