It is pretty obviously a mistake.

That's a good sign 34. I checked earlier and EB didn't have it listed at $19.99 yet. They must have received an e-mail this week regarding the price.XXXIV wrote:Ebgames has the 19.99 price......

I stand corrected. Perhaps there is more than meets the eye here. It would be a very agressive move by Take Two, but that's the kind of stuff it takes to knock off a juggernaut like EA Sports. Even people who have already picked up/plan to buy Madden would pick up ESPN at that price.
FWIW, ESPN NBA 2005 is full price on the ebgames site.

Wouldnt it be great if EA followed suit....lowered its price too?.....Kazuya wrote:I stand corrected. Perhaps there is more than meets the eye here. It be great to get both games I was buying anyway for 1/2 the price.
I can dream......
Well I ordered it, PS2 and Xbox version. How can you go wrong with these prices? Worst they can do is cancel the order.
They have an option to pick up games at local store but they have disclaimer that store prices may not match. So this could be a web special.
Anyways, I can use a temp. CC number where I limit how much they can charge and the expiration so they're not going to charge me full price.
More than likely, a discount chain like Circuit City would sell it at a discount at release but this price is obviously a lot better if it holds up.

Someone mentioned this special a couple of days ago on a newsgroup. That may have been at EB. But the link was not found. So it's encouraging that it's back.
In any event, I got confirmation email with the prices.
One thing, if you order more than one copy, they will charge you each time for shipping so don't think one shipping charge will cover 2 or more copies.

F*ck me: I'm ordering this game today at this price!
Regarding the $19.99 price point: It's becoming more popular for underdog games in certain genres than you might think. For example, Codemasters purposely released Colin McRae 04 at $19.99 on the Xbox since there was no PS2 release in the U.S.
And what happened? Colin 04 had WAY more sales in the U.S. than Colin 3. Sure, Colin 04 is a way better game, but the Codies' research shows that $19.99 is a price point for impulse and "no-brainer" purchases.
IndyCar Series 2005 is a $19.95 game, for the same reason. It's on the Xbox only in the U.S., and it faces stiff competition from the NASCAR Thunder series by EA.
A quality online football game like ESPN 2005 for $19.95? A quality online oval racing game like IndyCar Series 2005 for $19.95? SOLD!
5:30 p.m. update: ESPN NFL 2K5 ordered for in-store pickup for $21.65, including tax. Ahhh, lovely! Scoop, your legend grows!
Take care,
PK

I don't know, I think this move has some merit... if you consider the uninformed gamer factors in a large part on overall sales.
How many moms are going to be able to pass a $30 difference between this years two football games?
How many general uniformed footballers aren't willing to give the other a shot for a measly $20
...even some of the EA hard-ons will figure why-not and get it to supplement Madden for a measly $20.
Will EA still hold the market? Yea, but Sega just gave anyone on the verge of trying out their game major incentive to do so...

I called the store and they still showed $49.99 but any changes like that will not show up untill tomorrow since the GS computers update at night.grtwhtsk wrote:What are you guys paying for shipping?
Has anyone called their local stores to see what their computers are showing? I would hate to put money down and then find out it was a web exclusive deal.
If it is going to sell lfor $19.99 on the web you can rest assured it will be $19.99 or $24.99 (at the most for non competitive stores) in stores.
