Well, I have now rented and sent back two games from ´gamefly.com´ so I will give some early impressions.

First, their packaging and mailers are nice and simple to use. They were pretty speedy in getting me my games. They were here in 3-4 days. I will always wish it could be faster, but considering they are in California and I am in Chicago, it was pretty good.

The games were in great condition, but no instructions. You can however, download the controls for the game from their site, but I still wish there were some sort of copy of the instructions. I understand why they cannot do this though.

The games I have put into my queue have all been available immediately, even new releases and ´hot´ titles, so the availability has been great.

Now, here is my biggest complaint. At first I thought, ‘hey, for $22 a month, I can rent as many games as I want and keep them for however long I want. That’s pretty good considering if I don’t like a game, I can send it back the next day and not have to pay $6 to hold on to it for a week’. Well, what I didn’t think about was the 7 to 8 days it will take between games. 3-4 to send it back and another 3-4 to get the next one. It’s not a big deal, but I wish there was a quicker turn around. Here I am, without any games (I sent them both back Monday) and now I have to wait till next Monday or Tuesday for my next ones.
Patience is a virtue I guess.

Spooky:
Thanks for the impressions. That turnaround time would drive me insane -- I´m an impatient git.

Apparently you need to stagger your ´returns´ so that doesn´t happen again.

I´ve been a big fan of Gamefly (shamefully promoting it on this and other forums) since I signed up. I have to agree with Spooky´s thoughts.

However, the delay in games (I´m also in Chicago and experiencing 3-4 day shipping) is something you get used to. I began staggering my returns so that I´d always have a game and to ensure that I get new releases right away. With a little discipline, it´s certainly bearable; Plus, you get to keep them for as long as you want! The key is to rent the games that you think you´ll like but might not buy (short play-length platformers; older games you never got to; 2nd or 3rd sports titles etc.) and still use Blockbuster for impulse stuff that might just suck.

I still think it´s an excellent value, I´ve already played CM3; MVP2003, Medal of Honor, The Sims; Jurassic Park: Genesis; and more to completion (or until I got board!)...That would´ve cost me $250 in purchases; instead I payed about $60 (3 months membership)...
