WE7...i´m done with it

Post by tjung0831 »

The more I play this game the more that I just don´t care for it. 99% of my goals that I score on the 3 star level are scored by running down the wing and heading in a cross ala the Fifa series. Granted there are some things I like about the game but to me the scoring aspect is the same as if I were playing Fifa and with Fifa offering all of the real teams, players and licenses why shouldn´t I just play that instead. The gameplay in between goals is supposed to be the beauty of WE7 but what does it matter how good the gameplay is when the scoring style is a mirrored version of Fifa???
I´m going to trade it in tomorrow towards Fifa and if I find that Fifa isn´t what i´m looking for then i´ll wait for World Tour Soccer. WE7 is probaly more sim than i´m looking for anyway.
Will I like Fifa better....probably not but if I can like it almost as much and get all the bells and whistles i´ll be ok with it.

Let me get this straight, you find the variety in goals lacking even though you play on 3 stars??

That´s like me saying I disgusted with Madden because on Pro I can score on deep throws everytime. If I said that you guys would laugh me right out of DSP. I´m pretty sure PK would rip me a new one.

Bump it up to 4 stars and I´ll bet you will need to be creative. And then when you can score and win easily on 4 stars bump it up to 5.

There´s only one goal that really looks the same for me and has the same tactic. It´s not a money goal but something that does look the same.

Jrod,

3 stars is more than enough challenge for me. I´ve played 4 and don´t have a desire to play it again at the 4 star level.
I don´t have a lot of time to devote to the game to really get better.
A wife and two kids = not much gaming time. My point was if i´m going to score mostly on headers I might as well just play Fifa and get the benefits of all the teams, players, and licenses. WE7 is probably too deep for me considering the small amount of time that I can devote to it.

It´s not a mirrored version of FIFA. What teams are you playing with? It could be that you´re using teams that are better suited for wing play and have tall strikers.

And WE7 does have a steep learning curve. A lot of us have played a lot of the earlier version (WE6, MLS Extratime, etc.), so we´ve got a pretty good handle on control and what not. But first games will be difficult, and it´ll take time to really learn the game. I´d suggest keeping it and trying at it some more, especially since FIFA is a pretty poor approximation of soccer in all aspects. True, you´ve got the licenses, but the AI is pretty poor and gameplay is predictable.

Have you tried two star, btw?

When I run down the wing and cross the ball and I score on the header quite often...i´m sorry but that does mirror Fifa in my eyes....based on the fact that´s been a major gripe of mine with past versions of Fifa.
2 stars and I dominate, 3 stars and it´s pretty even. I know that if i get rid of WE7 there will be plenty that i miss...most likely the animations which are so good.
Playing in 4-star level has nothing to do with time or ability. I remember with WE6 and my discussion with Macca (where is that guy), that the difference between 3 stars and 4 is big. At first I was just like you, I didn´t want to change. However playing it on the harder difficulty will result in you being more creative and taking chances not normally taken on 3 stars. You are going to lose but you will learn what to do to give you chances.

Now I know, I´m in the minority of team spent with WE7:I. Currently i´m not playing any other games and I limit my gametime to the evenings and really I´m a letterman gamer. I watch Letterman with my PS2 hooked up to my spare PC monitor and I play and watch then go to bed.

This game will reward you if you stick with it. Just bump it up to 4 stars and start messing around with tactics or playing different teams. Last year, I just recreated the World Cup and did not play one game in the master league. Mostly it was the US, I learned what they were good at and what they weren´t. On 5 stars I never did with the World Cup but came awefully close. Just stick with it, the reward is very high.

Remember it´s all about setting up chances to score.

Are you winning most of your games on 3 Star? What are the average scores and what team(s) are you using?

Do you score a ton of goals each game? If you are using a good team with tall strikers and your offense consists of constantly trying to advance the ball down the wings and cross then it makes sense that all of your goals will be scored like that. Complaing about that would be like complaining if you score too many runs on homers using the Yankees in a baseball game. If you score 1-4 goals a game on 3 star with a good team then that is one thing. If you are scoring 3 or more goals in most games just crossing then maybe I could see your point (but I would try 4 star in that case). Do you give up a lot of goals as well? Did you complain about giving up late goals? Maybe your offensive tactics are causing your team to tire quickly and fade defensively at the end of games.

I rarely score on crosses and I do try them fairly often. I don´t really find the variation of goals scored to be much of an issue.

I also don´t crave the licenses and other nonsense of FIFA. If the game doesn´t offer a mode as addictive as master league, who cares how many teams there are?

[ This message was edited by: Parker on 05-03-2004 23:25 ]

Remember...this is the guy who walks into a Best Buy, plays a game for 10 min. and then decides whether he likes it or not. It´s not as though he actually has spent time with the game so that he can learn the control and the different attack styles.

It´s pretty pointless that you are trying to talk him into ´seeing the light´ that every other Fifa fan has seen when they pop in PES3 or WE7i.
Leebo from what I can tell so far is that the kits are correct. More importantly there are alot of patches for the PC version which really enhance the game. There is even an MISL patch which allows me to play indoor soccer with the current teams and great teams of the past. Fifa for $20 is a good buy for sure.

Tim,

The MISL patch sounds cool. I bought FIFA last year for PC and the patches at least made the game bearable. A patched FIFA on PC was at least as fun MLS ExtraTime 2002 IMO, but now that I´ve played WE I can´t go back.

I understand that WE can be challenging (although like most things challenging in life the payoff is worth it), but I just don´t agree with your complaints about goal variety. I am seeing a wide variety of goals. Of course, I use a lot of different scoring techniques, strategy options, etc and I´m getting better at maintaining possession and keeping my shots on target.
There is nothing wrong with the goal variety in WE7. I was mostly complaining about MY goal variety. The CPU has scored all type of different goals on me. I felt that the majority of my goals were scored off headers much like I´ve scored in the past versions of Fifa. The shooting is really a challenge in WE7 for sure...at least for me.
Then why put WE7 on the same level as FIFA? You seem to infer that the games are the same: I don´t understand your logic at all.
The choice is yours, but I would rather have a game with almost limitless replay value due to the tougher learning curve, such as WE 7, than a game that provides a short-term scoring fix but ultimately has stale, scripted, shitty gameplay like FIFA, just so you can have the updated kits.

Amen brother PK.

Last night, I was playing Chelsea w/ Fulham...I won 3-1. My goals were all scored in different ways, and each time, I was excited about they way they were set up.

The first...McBride takes the feed in the middle about 35 yards out, and puts a perfect lead pass to Boa Morte on the wing at the corner of the 18 yd box who lets loose with a one time cannon that goes upper V on the opposite corner of the frame...it was beautiful.

The second was on a set piece from about 40. The lob by Petta goes to the right of the goal where Hayles is waiting...he see Knight (the tallest dude on my team) waiting in the middle unmarked and gives him a perfect header pass, where Knight volleys it into the back of the net w/ hardly any challenge from the defense.

The third was a thing of beauty...McBride is off on a breakaway late, when Chelsea is bringing it´s fullbacks up to attack. He strikes the ball right as the keeper is coming off his line to challenge him...the keeper gets a piece of it and it deflects up off the crossbar. As it´s coming down, the keeper is trying to get to his feet, but McBride beats him to it, to put the header in the back of the net. I can honestly say that was the coolest goal I´ve scored so far. The timing of the goal, 85 min, and the nature were just off the hook.

I seriously cannot stop playing this game.

I was playing a league with Fulham and all the top EPL teams. I was 2-6-8 by the time I decide to reinstall the game because I was getting some weird sound problems.

I started up another league with the same teams...and now I´m 3-3-0. What a difference a plan of attack and correct substitution patterns make. Last season I wasn´t paying any attention to that stuff...now that I am...I plan on playing guys at the right time to take advantage of situations and it really works.

Honestly guys...I´ve never had so much fun with a game...not even a baseball game. There is so much variety and difference in each game you play it makes it fresh every single time. Not to mention I´m only playing on 3* seeing as though I´ve been a FIFA player thus far in my life...so I´ve got a lot of growth and learning still ahead of me.
Your goal descriptions sound exactly like commentary from a real game -- a testimony to the brilliance of the Winning Eleven series.

Watch or record the Argentine League game at 6 p.m. (PST, your time) tonight, man! It´s River Plate (my favorite) v. Independiente. Should be a cracker.

Last week´s FSW Argentine match, Boca v. Velez, was awesome. A 3-3 draw, tons of pace, some great goals, nice skill, tempers flaring, insane passion from the fans -- everything I love about Argentine football!
Paul, I don´t really see Fifa as shitty at all. It´s actually pretty fun and yeah I get all the accurate kits with it which is something that I like not to mention but all kinds of patches that enhance the PC version of the game.
My gaming has changed quite a bit in the past couple of years. I used to be a hardcore sim guy like the majority that post here are. However with less time for gaming these days, I need something that´s quick and fun..bells and whistles are a bonus. Iwant to play what´s fun for me. Everybody has different tastes. I don´t think that EA made Fifa just for me.
For right now I have both WE7 and Fifa and i´m ok with that. I´m one of the few that can play Fifa and have a good time with it I guess. If WE8 has all the teams, kits, and licenses next year then I would go with that game for sure.
I need something that´s quick and fun..bells and whistles are a bonus. Iwant to play what´s fun for me. Everybody has different tastes. I don´t think that EA made Fifa just for me.
That is fine. A FIFA rental several years ago actually got me into soccer games so the series isn´t totally worthless. I bought a copy of FIFA 2001, played it for a few weeks and loved it, got bored with it quickly after learning the few ways to score and money plays, moved to ISSPE, and the rest is history.
I think we just needed to reinforce to you that the problem with your goal scoring variety in WE7 is you. All of us that have put some time into learning the game score in almost every way possible.
Yeah without a doubt the goal scoring problem was me. I struggled with WE7...still do. I was relying on the cross and header for my goals. That´s why I felt like I should just be playing Fifa.
I will say this when I do score a goal thats not a header it´s a very rewarding experience. I wish they had all the kits, teams, and players. Maybe next year though.
Oh and on a side not i´ve now played 8 games of Fifa and have yet to score on a cross and header at this point so go figure.
