Martha Stewart found guilty

 Martha Stewart was convicted Friday of obstructing justice and lying to the government about a superbly timed stock sale, a devastating verdict that probably means prison for the woman who epitomizes meticulous homemaking and gracious living.
 
 
 The jury of eight women and four men deliberated three days before convicting Stewart of all counts against her. The charges carry up to 20 years in prison, but Stewart will almost certainly get much less than that under federal sentencing guidelines.
 
 
 Money can´t always buy you innocence.

Now if only Bush would ensure that the head people of major coorporations would get the time in jail they deserve. Since they were actually directly responsible for the ruin of families, they should get considerably more time than Martha. But it won´t happen.

 Only time will tell. I am just thrilled that a rich celebrity was not able to wriggle themselves out of the mess they made.

But it´s because they were a celebrity that this is even news. For one martha stewart there are probably 5 traders that the SEC are ignoring.

Until the appeals are done with (sometime in 2020, most likely) and I see hard evidence of Martha behind bars, I will not believe that she will be properly punished for her crimes (besides a sullied reputation).

I have a feeling she won´t see the inside of a jail cell, even if she loses her appeal. At her age, she will proabably get probabtion or some kind of suspended sentence because she wouldn´t be able to survive in prison, or some crap like that.
 
 But she will likely be financially ruined from this. All to avoid a $51,000 loss. What a greedy dumb ass. It can´t help but put a <IMG SRC="images/forum/icons/icon_biggrin.gif"> on my face.

Actually she´s suffered already. Her company reported lower results on lower advertising revenues. The publicity is affecting her empire even before this conviction. Now, she won´t be getting those KMart endorsements.
 
 She was made an example of because the kind of thing she did is supposedly common among the rich. So in this slective prosecution, why was she chosen? Well for one, she´s suppose to be a big fundraiser/contributor to Democrats.
 
 Howard Stern is now blaming his problems on his criticisms of Bush, who has ties to Clear Channel. Supposedly, Hicks, who bought out the Rangers, making Bush´s $600k share worth $15 million, is vice chairman of CC.

Evidently Bush is so mad at Kenny Lay that he is pushing for the maximum penalty for Martha.
 
 Call me cynical, but if the defendent was named Mark Stewart, charges would not have even been filed.

 That is true. It is her hypocricy concerning issues such as gun control that makes her a poor role model (ie, it´s OK for her bodyguards to carry concealed weapons, her relationship with KMART, etc.).
