TV Game Mode Yes or No for sports games?

Post by Lancer »

I was messing w/ the game mode on my tv and I noticed how much better the game graphics look when game mode is turned off. I tried Madden , FIFA, MLB THE SHOW, and CFB.

I understand game mode was made to limit latency. But for offline sprots games, how much latency is there really? It's not like we're playing COD Online where latency would matter in a FPS shooter.

I tested timing of MLB THE SHOW with game mode off and on and couldn't really notice any difference offline.

Do you all use game mode on your tv/systems or turn it off for sports games?

I think my reflexes are so shot at this point that I notice zero difference from any perceived lag.

I turned it off on all of my displays and inputs and never noticed any difference. Maybe if you're trying to play some 240Hz-supported game, but I don't see crap so it's always off.

same with me, i never notice any difference. I read the difference is in milliseconds so I dont know how anyone except maybe superman can tell.

tested it out with various games and only game where it makes a big difference is MLB THE SHOW. With it off, it's hard to get the timing down for both hitting and pitching.

do you have to mess around w/ the picture settings when it's on game mode? It looks so much better on standard but I'd like to have it look as good on game mode.

I have an OLED LG CX from a few years back that I did the same thing ("recommended settings") and it was fine. But there were times it was going between cutscenes and gameplay and doing that "instant game response activated"...covering up things in the UI I may need or have to read. It got annoying, and I couldn't find a way to turn off the notification. So I simply disabled it and really struggled to notice any perceived difference in lag time.

I could just go and tinker with settings that I wanted with game mode off, and it looked just as good. But again, I'm not playing some 120FPS shooter where it matters. I mostly stick to RPGs and crap that isn't going to be affected much, anyway.
