Dropped off all our kids to college last week. Now an empty nester.
my wife wanted to rearrange the living room so she doesn't feel sad about no more kids at home. So she asked me why those 2 gaming consoles are so full of dust. And to remove them so she can put some other stuff there.
Since getting PS5 and XBX, nobody's really played PS4/XBO in some years. They've been just sitting there collecting dust. So I started to unhook them and the feeling of sadness came over me. I remember when my kids were little and we hunted all over to buy PS4 when it launched. Drove to like 10 stores over 2 weeks trying to buy the thing. Then finally one my wife's friends who worked retail told us a shipment was coming in at so and so date/time and if we got there when the store opened we'd be sure to grab one. And we did. But that entire 2 week journey when our kids were little was fun to look back to when they were like 7/8 years old.
Everyone knows we' are an XBOX family but we held off on XBO because of the disastrous launch. But we finally got one a year later and the kids all loved Kinect right off the bat. Wii was still popular but the kinect games were very fun if you were a kid. I know Kinect has bad memories but for a time there it was a really fun gadget with some good kids games. It had a lot of good memories for my family.
Well, I didnt know putting away these gaming consoles would bring back these memories and make the house feel even more emptier. Now these consoles are boxed up in the garage with the 360, PS2, and other consoles from all these years. I still see we have the swtich hooked up in the other room but that's also become a huge dust magnet.
It all happens in a snap of a finger doesnt it.

Time sure is fleeting, isn't it? I remember having the same sadness when we packed the Wii away. Both my son and daughter used to love playing Wii Sports and Mario Kart.
