And I always assumed it was Matt C.
Yeah, but was that dude even Matt C?

I had an alt account at SC where I'd post a normal gaming post and then would say something about porn. Yeah.... :|

I was around for the old Sportsreviewers site and remember the Superior Man incidents right at the end before this site was created.

I stopped gaming for a few years around the time of the Xbox One. I ended up getting a second hand PS4 at some point and then jumped back in when i got lucky with the Xbox Series X right before Christmas the year of release.

Jackdog was the vet who used to be on this site. I remember how sad it was when he lost his brother who was also a veteran.

I also remember that this site was way ahead of the curve by dropping political discussions long before the last few elections. Great decision there :)

Wow-sportsreviewers! I needed to clear a few cobwebs out to recall that place but the whole Superior Man thing was unforgettable. My gaming career highlight would be realizing that pk500 is just 5 miles away and we've met a couple of times.

That site and this place were must reads multiple times a day for me. Now I come by once every week or so. The end of college games really hurt my gaming and my teenagers now dominate the consoles. I would rather play solitaire, they like to play online. Hoping NCAA football reignites my fire.
I now play a ton of cards and dice sports games and own way too many, more than I can ever possibly play. So theres that.
Enjoy.

Congrats Danimal on retirement! I'm only about 13-15 years behind you.

Anyways, I think I started over at Sportsreviewers when I was around 27. I think I went by sportdan27 back then. Likely was there for a few years. At one point, someone had old posts from way back yonder.

Superior Man kept things interesting and truthfully, I found it rather humorous. At least it kept the site pretty active. Never quite understood the animosity... all in good fun at the time.

What happened to Jackdog? Hope he's doing well.

Remember bdoughty? I think he came over from OS and stirred some stuff up, but mostly kept us all up to date on the goings on of video gaming. Anyone heard from him?

Sadly, it feels like this place is slowing down a bit, which is to be expected given our age. I'm still trudging along with my season in MLB The Show. Many of the AAA titles (that are 10 hours or longer) do not appeal to me. I still like to play the occasional entertaining games like Spider-Man and GTA, but the darker and gritty games have passed me by. It's really back to sports games every now and then to get that 30 minutes of excitement I felt back in my 20s and 30s. Pushing 50 now and I begin to wonder if this is sadly my last console generation.

Keep on keeping on guys!

Hey were you the guy who worked at the Federal reserve or something in STL? And it turned out to be a s*** job? and someone else on SR told you it would be s*** before you got there? Maybe that was Tjung as I remember he was from Missoura.

Ya OS and SR had a good rivalry back then. I remember that bdoughty guy - he was like the mod over at OS and ruled it like Stalin. I remember he left for health reasons and never heard of him again. That Jackog guy too no idea what happened. I'm still trying to remember that racing writer - he was a real nice guy - his stuff was on you tube too interviewing racers - he had a long last name maybe sounded Thai.

I agree with the other guy who said when NCAA comes back on consoles, I think that'll rekindle gaming for a lot of us ex sportsreviewers.

Wow, you have one hell of a memory! Yep, that was me who took that Federal Reserve job. I knew I had made the wrong decision day one. The niceties of the breakfast buffet and workout gym was the only positives. I don't think I was there more than a couple months. And it more than likely was Tjung who warned me about it.

I'm somewhat enjoying the Madden trial so that should hold me over football wise until NCAAA.

We're all old as f*ck.

That is the only certainty anymore.

When I spent like 10 years reviewing stuff on OS, helping build it from nothing to what it became along with Steve over there, it feels like a lifetime ago. Somehow stumbled onto SR and that seems like the golden age of online gaming/discussions/etc.

Now it's so much info, so much negativity, so many things out there pulling for attention that I just can't be bothered to give a sh*t about any of it anymore

Think if we had SR during this Twitch era? It would be cancelled in 2 min.

Not heard from Brent since last spring, when he nuked his account at Digital Gaming Nation. Up until then, I would have told you he'd mellowed a bit, and he would likely have hated me saying so. Hope he's keeping well.

I lurked at SR but never posted. At the time I hadn't worked out that it isn't normal for the thought of posting on a forum to induce anxious sweating, so for the sake of my hydration I limited myself to posting at, then later writing for, Calvert Games. (I sometimes chuck that in to posts as a means of summoning Jonathan for one of his occasional flypasts, a bit like Halley's Comet occasionally flies past.) I still remember that when I first worked up the nerve to post here, PK said he'd dug my work at CG and I felt like I was receiving praise from Caesar, though nobody ever recorded how many people Caesar ultimately came to know as "you Limey d*ck".

While I know I'm still one of the younger posters here, it's dawning on me that I'm a balding 37-year-old man for whom next year marks the 20th anniversary of his first article for CG. And f*ck me, that's a miserable thought...

I was there and I'm still here. Something to be said for that I guess.

Those of us who have been around since the internet was good are definitely the Old Breed at this point.

The good news is that this is *finally* the year they get Madden fixed, right?

Hardly, I would amount to nothing more than a pimple on the underarm of Superior Man! He was a true leader of men. I'm not smart enough to figure out who he really was!
I always thought it was pk500
Hell, NO. It wasn't me! It probably was Matt Chamberlain, the editor and founder of Sports Reviewers. I enjoyed writing for Matt, but he was a peculiar guy. He just disappeared once Wewp and then Sports Reviewers morphed into this place. Haven't heard from him in probably 20 years.

As for updates on others, Neckthai is still alive and well. We still work together in INDYCAR racing, and I stay at his condo when I'm in Indy to work races. He's one of my best buds.

Jackdog is the veteran who lost his leg in Iraq. I wouldn't be surprised if he still lurks here, although I haven't heard from him in at least five years. We used to talk on the phone at least weekly around 15 years ago. Great guy. Hope he's OK.

I've been online since mid-1994, but SR and then this place were the first true online communities to which I belonged. Since then, I've joined a ton of audiophile headphone forums and a bunch of sub-Reddits for hobbies. But this joint was the first and always will be the best.

Yes Neckthai , that's him! I remember he had some videos on youtube interviewing the racers. good he's still got the same gig. Must be fun for him. Does he travel the world for F1 too? that must be exciting.

I joined late compared to many of you, back in 2004, after starting reviewing for a defunct sports video game site. Thinking back to 1994, I guess I was online too in those internet forums.

Paul, be careful with headphones and associated gear. It can be a deep pit of wanting more. Currently wanting to upgrade my old Stax cans, especially with the weak yen.

Too late. I already have around $2,000 invested in three pairs of over-ear headphones and a desktop DAC/amp setup, and all were used! That's just a start ...

I own HiFiMan Edition XS, Sennheiser 6XX and Audeze LCD-2C, with JDS Labs Atom+ DAC/amp stack. Already eyeing some cans in the $1,000-$1,500 range for the next upgrade. :)

Every time I visit my daughter in Seattle, I always carve out an afternoon to visit audiophile shops there to sample new cans and headphones I've never heard. Also listened to a $1.5 million stereo system at a shop there last week. My son and I both saw God ... :)

SR was my first real forum, as a young and arrogant 19/20 year old. So many good memories and so many buddies we have lost. I especially enjoyed chatting to HipE, Airdog and BBBozo. And who can forget siam007 and his World Cup soccer commentary in the chat. Hard to believe it’s been that long and now my oldest kid is nearly the same age I was at that time.

Pk500 was an inspiration for me. An “older” guy who was (and still is) into gaming. I found sim racing from Paul, most notably WoO Sprint Cars (apparently a new one is coming this year??) and the old Colin McRae racing. I recall we had some rudimentary CM “league” on SR.

This is some high quality free entertainment.

posted in the College Football 25 thread, today:

wzup gentlemen. Been posting on Operation Sports (for the first time in like 12 years) due to the potential of this game. Felt moved to check if this site is still up. Apparently it's not true, and one can "Come home again." Hope you're all well. While I lack play time, videogames have uncategorically remained my #1 hobby/interest, from 1997 to present. Will admit, have discovered i increasingly value the exchange with others my age, when it pertains to gaming. As I just don't look at things the same, or value the same aspects of gaming as Zoomers or probably most Millennials. That said, will chime in RE: College Football 25 in the next post or so. Take care. Vin

Additionally: Really enjoyed reading this 'Sportsreviewers' thread, and everyone taking time to chime in. As for Superior Man, always suspected it was Matt Chamberlain, if not then Scoop. Yeah, during the peak DSP days, am certain I refreshed the forum page, more times than any other site. Internet was a better place. It was cozy.

thanks for the welcome backs. Very kind of you all.

thankfully, life has been good. Wedding anniversary will be 10 years next month, married to the most gorgeous sista, I've ever seen/known. We own a nice suburban house in Idaho. Downside? I do miss the PS3/360 era, when had day & night to actually play games (I continue to follow all gaming news/game releases intently). It was a simpler life then. Anyway, I value the friendships which made on this site, and the joyous exchanges, often involving vidgaming, but not exclusively. Will check a few recent threads on the site, bump a few, and maybe pick up where we left off. Vin

hey vinny - i think i sort of remember you from SR days.

But you're totally right about the ps3/360 era. That was the GOAT Era of gaming. One argue PS2 era was right up there but that 360 era for sports / racing games was incredible. we had multiple titles for every sport game. We had college games. We had innovation in sports games like FIFA and NCAA where we could go onto a website, create a log or a roster , upload those images/info onto the game. There were no restrictions. It was a glorious time.
