FIFA 14 News
Some of the improvements EA are advertising for this fall:
Improved teammate AI.
Pure shot, meaning that players can adjust their strides and angle to find the best position for scoring.
Protect the Ball.
New ball physics determines the trajectories of balls in game, enabling players to strike the ball with force from a distance.
Sprint dribble turns.

Hopefully they'll bring some big improvements to the Vita. I have played that more than on the regular consoles, looks better too.

Re: FIFA 14 News
Glad to see they will be fixing the ball shielding. It was too powerful for years and then completely eliminated for the last couple years. It made any sort of hold up play impossible, which led even more to the grass hockey feel.

Re: FIFA 14 News
Hey, at least EA didn't announce the biggest new feature of FIFA 14 would be the introduction of the fighting engine from the Fight Night series.
I'm really enjoying FIFA 13 far more than I thought. Very fun game, even offline.

Ditto. I'm all about Career Mode. I have my share of complaints and 'suggestions' for 14, but I am enjoying the game.pk500 wrote:Hey, at least EA didn't announce the biggest new feature of FIFA 14 would be the introduction of the fighting engine from the Fight Night series.

Looks good. Also appears Bale is a leading candidate for cover boy.

Re: FIFA 14 News
They're essentially saying they're not going to support the lower end configs.
Whatever the BOM of the PS4 and X1 are, say $400, you wouldn't be able to get a $400 PC that would run any games as well.
It'll be interesting to see how FIFA translates to the new consoles, since they've been developing for higher end PCs.
They no longer make a PC version of Madden but they did when this and the previous generation came out. So they were used to producing better graphics than say the PS1 generation could produce by the time the PS2 came out.
Maybe FIFA will transition to the next gen better than Madden.
Interesting that they have a separate engine for sports games than the one used in BF. When the PS3 was introduced, they made a big deal about the new engine they acquired from Criterion. The big demo was the slow-mo animation of a fighter getting punched for Fight Night.
The transition from PS2/Xbox to PS3/360 wasn't the best for EA Sports so you have to be wary.

I really wish EA would introduce an online dynasty type mode for Fifa. NHL has it, Madden has it..

Re: FIFA 14 News
PC demo is up on Origin - console demo out today.
I played one game last night on the PC (got back from soccer at 12:30am and then my daughter woke up) - not sure if it's because I cranked up the settings on the PC version and had the thing going at 60fps but it seems to move so much more smoothly than FIFA 13 with regards to player movement. Responsiveness also seems slightly improved. Like I said, I only played one game and I was Dortmund vs. Red Bulls so I can't say I noticed much else.
Spurs are in the demo (why?).
The menus and interface look a lot prettier.
Will check out the console demo later today and I think the PES demo drops tomorrow.

Re: FIFA 14 News
Firing from the hip here with only two demo matches played. The first thing that struck me was the AI's ability to move the ball around on the attack. I was playing NY Redbulls and they worked the ball in deep, then back to the corner of the area, then back even further before switching the field and attacking down the opposite wing, then cutting it back into the box.. Brilliant stuff in my opinion.
The game also seems more responsive than ever. Normal game speed seems a touch faster than last year. I like the new interface as well.
Once again it seems like another great effort. I'll have to play more and give more attention to smaller details later.

Re: FIFA 14 News
Absolutely loved the demo. Gameplay is tight and the AI definitely more aggressive and improved. Even on Pro level, the CPU will take put pressure on you and with manual passing, being patient and finding an open teammate is more challenging. I don't seem to have the time to put any skill moves as the AI will take the ball from you unless you're a top player as it should be. The one on one battles are tougher for sure. PK's were a bit tough for me to aim though, seems like you have to be almost perfect to score. The rosters are a bit outdated but overall I am liking this demo a lot.

Per the PK's. I had no trouble scoring on World Class, but the AI put the ball straight down the middle all but one time. Of those, I did stand still in the center and somehow the ball still managed to go over my head and score.

Re: FIFA 14 News
VERY early demo impressions, default skill level and normal and slow speeds:
Agree with many here and posting at OS: The CPU defense is tighter and anticipates human players' options far better than in FIFA 13.
Plus the game speed seems to be optimized toward Normal this year. You don't automatically need to switch the speed to Slow to get a realistic match, although Slow probably is still a shade more realistc. But not the chasm of last year.
Still, I'm a bit disappointed. EA promised an improved shooting mechanic during all of its pre-release PR this summer, and I felt or saw nothing different in shooting -- both in games and in drills -- that felt different than FIFA 13.
Like most EA releases this late summer for the 360, this feels like a 13.5 version, not a new game. EA has sanded off the rough edges from NHL, FIFA and Madden but offered very little revolution -- just minor evolution.
It feels like EA has mailed it in somewhat on development of 360 games for the 2014 cycle, instead probably focusing on the PS4 and One.
