Anyone a fan of him? I love listening to his show, as well as watching his opening takes and final burn on his tv show. He's an awesome journalist and showman in my opinion. Who all on here follows him?

I'm a fan, but there aren't too many on this board. It's probably a generational thing. :)

I love his little Rome-isms such as *allegedly* and *FAAATTTT*

I need to start checking the radio show a lot more. The tv program is grade A entertainment and the radio show seems like more of the same. You can't beat his take on gym guy, Corvette guy or softball guy.

I was a huge fan of Jim Rome but got burned out listening to him. Not that he did anything wrong, just moved on to more important things like Right Wing hate filled talk radio. j/k

I got turned onto Jim Rome after the ESPN fight with Chris Everett. Many probably don't realize the impact he's had on sports talk shows. Everybody pretty much uses his sayings now without giving him credit. Another thing about Rome is that at times he comes across as a goof but the guy pretty much nails the player attitudes and the surrounding news stories.

Rome is not a journalist. Not even close.

He's a radio host not a journalist. He's ok, the long pauses between every word is a tad annoying.

He's like one of those Nhl grinders who goes into the corners and gets the loose pucks. He's not a 50 goal scorer but he's got a LOT of character and is very likeable and knows his niche.

If his niche = Slackers, stoners and suburban white kids who think they are street, then yeah he knows them.

Phenomenal!

EDIT: In case the original term offended anyone.

I tend to lump Tony Kornheiser, Dan Le Batard and Jim Rome in the same group even though Tony and Dan writes columns. They all play to their shtick. I have no doubt that if Jim wanted to write columns he has the skills and knowledge to do it. The difference is that Jim Rome probably gets paid serious money for both his radio and TV shows that he doesn't need to bother writing columns.

Jim Everett made Rome's career with that incident. IIRC Rome was fired shortly after that from ESPN (honestly I never heard of the guy until that happened) and he later moved on to bigger and better things.

I'll take Mike and Mike in the Morning over Rome any day. Rome entertains, but he doesn't inform. Everything is designed to reflect back on Rome and build the Cult of Jim Clones.

Mike and Mike inform and entertain. The entire show isn't always about them.

Golic and Greenberg are like two guys sitting around at a bar talking sports. Minimal histrionics, minimal props or stunts, minimal volume (at least by talk radio standards). Just intelligent conversation with good guests.

It's always jarring for me in the morning to go from Greeny and Golic to f*cking Colin Cowherd, who is a total blowhard. My ESPN Radio Web window usually is closed by 10:01 a.m. every morning.

I can't stand Rome, never have been able to stomah him. His fake intonation and too cool for school attitude grate on me badly. As PK says, he is not a journalist, he is an entertainer and as far as I can tell is more about blowing his own horn and less about being informative.

His irrational and ignorant attitude towards the beautiful game doesn't help with me either. He's an ignorant, closed minded blowhard, with a provincial attitude and I've never had the time to care about anything people like that say or think.
