OT: The '07 NBA Draft and Offseason Thread

Post by dbdynsty25 »

Should be an interesting few days with stars potentially on the move (KG, Stoudemire, Marion, Bryant, J. O'neal, Peirce, etc.) and one of the deepest drafts in NBA history.

All I know is that the Suns definitely shouldn't move Amare to facilitate a KG trade. Marion is one thing...but not Amare. It's not quite a lateral move in terms of talent, KG is more talented right now, but Amare is 24 and cheaper and KG is 30+...just don't see how that's a good move really.

Yep . . . The Suns should NOT trade Amare. I'd like Marion to stay too, but the cap is the cap. Even though Nash drives the team, he's not a young guy and Amare IS the franchise.

My mom, who is Steve Kerr's assistant said that Amare went into Kerr's office a few hours back for about 3 min. and then left. No joy or anger so she couldn't tell what went down in the room...but that can be good or bad.

I hear ya. I just hope the Suns don't start trading like the Diamondbacks, at least like them in the previous 2 years - Johnny Estrada (a 300 hitter last year) and Claudio Vargas for the great Doug Davis (and some minor leaguers) for example.

We can just keep our fingers crossed and hope Kerr knows what he's doing.

You'll be much happier with Durant, and that's who you're getting.

Smart trade by the Knicks.

Warriors traded their heart and soul for a 210 pound center?

Hope there's another shoe to drop.

Please let Grant Hill be healthy next year...please????

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2926650

Can't beat paying the guy 1.8 million...now the Suns just need to keep the rest of the roster in tact and they gotta be able to keep some guys from getting suspended in the playoffs and they've got another title shot. Better do it soon since Nash probably only has two or three years left at this pace.

Gee, I didn't know James Jones was a part of selling the Blazers the 24th pick. I know he had a subpar shooting year, I don't know if I'd want to ship him out to Portland.

Yeah...they still haven't announced it, but my mom told me during the draft that he was included (if you look at the war room pics, she's in the back room behind the glass...what a awesome place to be on draft night).

I was surprised, but he really hasn't shot very well at all since he got to Phoenix. That was his only job...come in and shoot it well. He hasn't, so he's gotta go. That's 3.5 million per that they were saving, plus they made 3 million for the pick so that covers Hill for the most part (along with his luxury tax implications).

Word on the street is that James Singleton, the defensive/rebounding specialist on the Clippers is talking about coming to the desert too...so that would be interesting...especially if he signs a Hill-like contract.

Yep . . . guess he had to go. How is Singleton? I don't remember ever seeing him play.

He played a significant role on the Clips at the beginning of the 05-06 season and he looked pretty good. For some reason he fell out of favor with Dunleavy and he never got back in with some regular minutes. From what I remember, he looked pretty good. Kind of a poor-mans Marion. Really athletic, can hit a few outside shots and crashes the boards. He's probably not as quick and can't defend as many positions, but then again, who can.

So happy that the Hawks got Al Horford! I am now a fan and will definitely be there when Chicago rolls into town to see my 2 FL boys play against each other :)

WTF??? The Suns send Kurt Thomas and two first rounders to Seattle for one second round pick. The trade isn't official until it's reviewed by Tim Donaghy.

The NBA. I love this game.

Guess you don't understand the Suns finances. It was either him or Marion to leave...and you gotta pay someone to take 8 mil off your cap. That 8 mil saved the Suns 16 million for the year. I'd much rather keep Marion than Thomas. With the Diaw and Barbosa deals coming into play this year, they were gonna have to dump someone. It's not like the Suns keep their first round picks ever anyway. They just better have another cheap big guy in mind, because someone has to guard Duncan next year.

It's going to be tougher for non-luxury tax teams to compete in the West

Especially when crooked refs are involved in the Suns/Spurs series next year. What the f*ck...that prick reffed Game 3...the worst officiated game in NBA history (which the Suns lost of course). Wow...that travesty of a series last year just got 10x worse.

This NBA ref scandal is really bad. When I was watching that Suns/Spurs series, I had no idea what a foul was or wasnt'. In the NBA, it seems every call is a judgment call. In other sports there are clear rules for infractions, etc. If a football player's knee wasn't down and the ball comes out, it's a fumble, no buts about it.

In basketball, I would think a foul would be any time a player uses contact to give himself an advantage. I have no idea how officials call fouls (even the supposedly untainted officials). At least this scandal will be bringing light to how the officials call these games.

Not really.

Stern will try to spin this as isolated to a few bad apples or one bad apple.

But it clearly demonstrates the discretion or wide latitude officials have to make calls and how much they can affect outcomes of games.

Even after the crooked refs are pushed out of the league, you will still have different officiating for superstars vs. journeyman players, vets vs. rookies, etc. and people will accept these double standards.

The more blatant abuses aren't one or two egregious calls here and there. It's a bunch of them which results in one team getting say 30 FT attempts to 5 in a quarter. That has happened more than once and in crucial playoff games.

No replay, either, on foul calls, which makes a fix even easier.

Take care,
