I thought I would keep this thread going.

My wife and I moved last year from metro Atlanta to Albany NY. Since we are Americana fans it has been an adjustment since we no longer can run to Athens or Alabama or Nashville for a show. But when we do go to shows, one thing remains the same - people don’t shut up and listen to the music. We saw Son Volt in Woodstock at Levon Helms barn and stood in the balcony. I noticed that the front row people spent most of the show playing games and reading email. No wonder they played only 1 encore when they had been doing 2 on the tour. Even worse, when they left the stage at the end, people charged in front of the band members to get to the paring lot. Keep in mind that this place holds maybe 250, and it is not like fighting stadium traffic. Same thing when we saw Jason Isbell in Port Chester. The people next to us talked the whole time. Fortunately the band cranked it up loud as any show I have seen. I thought that Lakewood and the Fox in Atlanta were bad, but I guess that music shows have become just another chance to play with your phone and hear your own voice. Too bad, because there is some great music out there. FYI - Son Volt played a lot of there new Doug Saha cover album as well as playing Trace from beginning to end. And a lot of other songs - Jay Farrar does not spend a lot of time on stage banter 😀

It's gotten really terrible. I've seen so many artists talk about how they were so enthusiastic to get back on the road after COVID and they're so disappointed by the experience because of behavior like this from fans. Not entirely sure how it improves. The reaction to Miranda Lambert stopping her show to object to a fan who was constantly taking selfies and making tik toks was stunning to me. I assumed people would sort of back Lambert, but in reality younger fans were firmly in the pro obsessive narcissist camp. It's just a changing set of social mores, but it's hard for an old-timer like me to understand.

Bingo. Also one of the reasons I don't like going to the theater to see movies anymore. People never shut up, they're on the phones, etc.

I saw "Oppenheimer" two weeks ago. My first trip into a theater since 2019. I expected the worst from the crowd in the packed theater, but everyone was quiet and respectful. Maybe that's because "Oppenheimer" isn't a "teen movie" or "young adult movie" and probably because it's a gripping film from start to finish.

The concerts I have been to the last couple of years have not had any obnoxious audiences. Admittedly it is a completely different crowd. A few selfies before the performance, but once the music starts everyone is respectful. The c9ncerts we have been to are exclusively classical and opera. Contemplating going to some non-classical concerts this fall.

Be prepared for a shock to your system. Selfie culture is pervasive and obnoxious as f*ck, and it's on full display at most rock, pop and bro country/hick-hop (PUKE!) shows.

Far from new music, but one of the best covers you'll hear: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smxr22Q6WYo

Lead guitar player and bass player are from separate Australian punk bands. Bassist Eamon Sandwith plays for The Chats, an Aussie punk band I dig.

The lead singer and rhythm guitar player are from separate ska/punk bands in Toronto.

Just RIPPIN. Amy Gabba has spectacular pipes.
