I'm all for Baseball saying anything goes take whatever you want to improve your skills but we know that will never happen because there would be an uproar. The biggest problem I have with PED is that you can actually get better with age. There's a 70+ year old freak in my neighborhood who's gotta be doing PED's. He has the body of Atlas and the face of George Burns. And riding his bicycle wearing his white leprechaun hat doesn't help his cause.Jackdog wrote:I agree. Hell,MLB didn't begin testing players for steroids and P.E.D.'s until 2002. They didn't get strict about it until 2005. The owners and MLB raked in the benefits of the HR races and records. They reaped what they sowed. The Hall of Fame is is home to bigots, liars, drunks, coke heads and speed freaks. Why not PED users. It's time for the fans to decide who enters the Hall, the baseball writers time has passed. I'm not a fan of either, but I believe Bonds and Clemons deserve to be in.

A lot of local sports guys here are angry that Jack Morris was snubbed. At least he's not having embarrassing pity parties like Bert Blyleven did. I don't know why he deserves to be in. They claim he was the best pitcher of the 80s (never watched baseball then) but his numbers are not hof. He pitched one of the 10 best games ever (ws game 7 ) but that's his high point of a decent career. I say he will never make it in.

Re: MLB 2012 Season
He shouldn't get in, but if the writers continue to try to play morals police it's more likely that he will. Ordinarily his support would erode over time as subsequent generations became eligible, but that effect is much less pronounced if so many are going to be excluded. In that case, voters may be looking around for borderline cases like him.fletcher21 wrote:A lot of local sports guys here are angry that Jack Morris was snubbed. I cry NO tears for these assholes.
The highlight is Bonds. This jagoff has only his own ego to blame. He was a lock before his jealousy of joe bucks love affair with the mcgwire sosa limp wristed steroid fest got the best of him.
Talk about a d***** who got what he deserved.
Meanwhile Bud Selig, the owners, the baseball writers and espn all HUGE accomplices, if not the true villains, skate away free of all blame.

Re: MLB 2012 Season
Selig is only surpassed by Bettman as a #1 POS.
I wonder if we will ever see the real steroid testing results that people say Selig hid since the # of guys testing positive was so large.
Morris' numbers are not great, but for the era he played in, he was the best pitcher or one of the top 3 in the game. To me that says a lot of why he should be in. And he was clutch in the playoffs and WS. Go with that he was a great guy who respected the game. At least for me that is important when we have guys like Bonds and Clemens.
I can't wait for next year when Frank Thomas is in. The media will hype him as they should. That guy could have gone the steroid route easily but he didn't and he put up great numbers. I know the Chicago media use to crap on him a lot because he wasn't McGwire or Bonds and he took a lot of that anger and made some mistakes but he was true to the game and deserves all the accolades he gets.

Everyone knows Dave Steib is a HOFer.
It's not stirring the pot anyway...it's obvious just from peripheral numbers that Morris isn't a HOFer.

My dream has partially come true. Justin Upton and 3b Chris Johnson to Atlanta for Prado (ugh...I LOVE Prado), Delgado, Sprewill & Ahmed. Sad to see Prado go, but stoke at the Braves outfield. Upton, Upton and Heyward. Whoa.

Re: MLB 2012 Season
The only thing I can think of is that Prado asked for 12 million per year for an extension, and that's just too much for his numbers. Total clubhouse guy and an all-star because he can play 6 positions, but 12 mil per is a bit much. That's the ONLY thing that would excuse them for trading Prado. I mean, Chris Johnson's numbers are essentially the same as Prado's so that's not going to be the issue. He was the most likable guy on the team. Oh well...business is business. Still absolutely LOVE the outfield.bdunn13 wrote:Sad to see Prado go..... good player that can fill in anywhere.

The other downside of the Upton trade is I hate his batting stance in MLB The Show...so difficult to hit with that closed stance. Haha...oh well.

Eeesh...60 mil is steep (w vesting). As his speed erodes (see the second half of 2012) so does his obp. He's got two above average years left and then a there will be a huge drop off. That's pretty much why he lasted so long. Scares a lot of teams.

Re: MLB 2012 Season
Yeah, certainly not great news but I think it was pretty obvious in reading about his progress over the last month that he was not going to be 100 percent healthy. What's frustrating is that he elected to not have surgery in September, which would have potentially put him back on the field in May or June. Supposedly, surgery was an option and he and his doctor thought he could heal by just resting. Now, he's out for the year, making an easy 7 mil and more than likely, he's done with the Cardinals. A lot of fans are blaming the GM, but he couldn't force him to have surgery. Either way, it's a blow.dbdynsty25 wrote:Brutal news for Cardinal fans w/ Furcal out for the year w/ Tommy John. Who knows if Kozma can put up legitimate numbers as the every day shortstop. I think his postseason play was a fluke, but we'll see. And no, I have absolutely no confidence in Cedeno.
Re: MLB 2012 Season
I'm starting to get into the WBC as the Italy v Mexico game was a nail biter. Was kinda blah about most of the games in Asia, but with USA cranking up,and the Dom. Rep v Ven. tnite, the games are getting a little more compelling.
