Re: The NFL 2014-2015
Why does everyone continue to compare an ON THE FIELD issue with an off the field issue? Apples to Oranges in the eyes of the NFL. One challenges the integrity of the game and one is just a guy being an asshole. Stop it already.
Re: The NFL 2014-2015
Conspiracy theorists are at it, of course. It's tough to ignore all of this stuff after a while (which is why they keep doing it). Patriots fumbled just as much as other teams from 2000-2006. They changed the rule to allow teams to provide their own footballs, and they became the least-fumbling team by a huge, huge margin. Statistically speaking, they had a 0.0001711874 percent probability in that sort of improvement:

I rolled my eyes at most of the stuff to begin with, but the more sh*t you shovel on the pile, the more it gets my attention, as if that matters.

And the Dolphins were just favored by ESPN to win the division. Wishful thinking at least on paper.

Re: The NFL 2014-2015
Who do the Dolphins have playing LB, CB and S again? Gonna be rough on the back end of the defense. Suh/Wake/et al need to get mad pressure on the opposing QBs to prevent the arial track meet from taking place each week. Definitely way too much Dolphin hype right now. Lets wait till camp opens at least.Rodster wrote:And the Dolphins were just favored by ESPN to win the division. Wishful thinking at least on paper.
Re: The NFL 2014-2015
The NFL should take a cue from Major League Baseball.
http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/12870 ... egate-flap
"Starting this year, an MLB representative watches the baseballs while a clubhouse assistant carries them from the umpires' room to the field.
And if the supply runs low during the game, an MLB security person is now sent to retrieve more from the umps' room."

Re: The NFL 2014-2015
The Dolphins really should have waited another year before breaking the bank for Tannehill. Eeeesh.
Re: The NFL 2014-2015
According to the Miami media those Tannehill contract numbers aren't as bad as you think DB. The fact is Tannehill has gotten better each year. He's no Andrew Luck but he's not RG3. If he has a breakout year with Parker at WR it could turn into a solid investment for the Phins.
The Heat gambled with Whiteside and are now looking at a ton of money to try and sign him after his contract expires.

All I have to read is 45 million guaranteed. That's enough to give me pause. That's the only number that matters, outside of the cap hits each year.Rodster wrote:According to the Miami media those Tannehill contract numbers aren't as bad as you think DB. Per the Sun-Sentinel:dbdynsty25 wrote:All I have to read is 45 million guaranteed. That's enough to give me pause. "It's a smart deal structured in a smart way. That's where you start with Ryan Tannehill's extension. The Dolphins gave some to lock up long term Tannehill in the case he makes another progressive step forward. Tannehill got $25 million guaranteed right away but agreed to pay-as-you-go clauses that protect the team in case he falters.
In other words, this is exactly what a team with some vision does. The big numbers of the deal - six years, $96 million - only start to tell the story. That fits inside the parameters the Dolphins were talking internally a couple of months ago. What also fits is they wanted opt-in language that makes it a series of one-year deals at some point.
The Sun-Sentinel's Omar Kelly reports the Dolphins will pay Tannehill $35 million over the next three years. If they had kept the current deal in place, they would have paid $18.5 million for two years. So that was the cost of locking him up for six years on a pay-as-you-go basis essentially after the third year."
So that's not bad and it's just really 3 years guaranteed. The Suh deal OTOH was really bad for cap space.
Re: The NFL 2014-2015
They're willing to pay $45 million not to have to start over with another QB, especially a rookie QB.
Going rate for starters, not even Pro Bowl QBs, it seems.
Which is why it's puzzling that the Seahawks seem to be lowballing Wilson, or not exactly backing up the truck for him.

Yeah suppose that's all true. He's fine...he's progressing. They'll know after this year if he's going to live up to it given all the weapons he just got presented with.wco81 wrote:They're willing to pay $45 million not to have to start over with another QB, especially a rookie QB.

Re: The NFL 2014-2015
A first tier contract for a second tier QB if you asked me, despite his good season. Pretty sure the A. Luck and R. Wilson camp are watching this but despite the slow progress the latter two QB's are not going anywhere. It's just a matter of how and when.
Something happened over the weekend as R. Kraft wows NOT to appeal the leagues' penalties any longer.

Re: The NFL 2014-2015
Unfortunately that is not the case. The talent pool at QB is crap and will be for the foreseeable future. This is the going rate for a mid-level QB.10spro wrote:A first tier contract for a second tier QB if you asked me, despite his good season. Pretty sure the A. Luck and R. Mr. Kraft is doing it for the good of the league if you believe those f***in cheaters.10spro wrote:Something happened over the weekend as R. Kraft wows NOT to appeal the leagues' penalties any longer.

Of course he is. Something tells me that over the weekend Goodell probably told him to zip it or risk being publicly further humiliated once he shows them more proof of how his team conducts in this league.Danimal wrote:Unfortunately that is not the case. Quite possible.10spro wrote: Something tells me that over the weekend Goodell probably told him to zip it or risk being publicly further humiliated once he shows them more proof of how his team conducts in this league.
Still it is a nice thought that maybe he really is doing it for what is best for the league.

Plenty of discoveries were made, like the fact the deal is for $95,272,000, per contract details from the NFLPA, and not $96 million. So agent Pat Dye Jr. rounded up. That's no biggie.
However, the initial reports were that the deal featured $45 million of the contract being fully guaranteed. It appears that only $21.5 million is fully guaranteed.
There's another $3.5 million in 2016, $3.5 million in 2017, and $16.5 million in 2018 that's guaranteed. But those guarantees are for injury only. That means if Tannehill suffers an injury before that season, the Dolphins are on the hook for that amount each year he's on the roster. However, there's no guarantee that Tannehill will get $45 million from this new deal.
The Dolphins' starting quarterback only received a $11.5 million signing bonus, which means it will be easy for the them to move on from him, or trade him, whenever they see fit. That clearly makes this a team-friendly deal.
Instead of giving Tannehill the $18.25 million total he was owed for 2015 and 2016 -- based on his 2015 salary of $2.1 million and his $16.15 million fifth-year option -- the Dolphins gave Tannehill $21.5M for those two seasons in order to gain the right to have four opt-in years.
