Tough loss. Great relief pitching by the 'Nats aided by a poor strike zone by Jim Joyce. We're going to game 5......

Wow Jim Joyce seems like a great man, but has he had a rough last couple of years as a umpire or what?, geez.

Oh ya baby. Maybe I was wrong about the winner of Game 3 taking the series.

I think it depends on which version of Gio shows up tomorrow. The 21 game winner, or the guy who threw 5 walks in less than 2 innings like game 1.

I know I should root for another team since I can't think of any ties left to the Expos, but I can't bring myself to root for the Jays....... :P

Horrible strikezone today.. and it has to end on a HR by that shitbag Werth.

The O's have been so resilient all year long. Wouldn't be surprised one bit if they can upset the Yankees in game 5. Very impressed with the likes of N. Mclouth and M. Machado. Jim Johnson didn't let his blown save yesterday get in the way. A close series.

Yes, I have to admit, the home plate ump was rather...... interesting. I have to say, I saw bad calls going BOTH ways however.

Assuming the pitch tracker on TBS is 100% accurate (are they?) there was a lot of messed calls, both balls and strikes.

I won't complain though, and you have to give Werth credit for fouling off all those pitches and finally knocking the 13th one our of the park.

Hopefully I can find the time tonight to park in front of the tV and watch the game, I believe Sportsnet will carry it again.....

Ken Rosenthal: "The benching of Arod is shocking."

were waiting for Rosenthal to confide the statement as sarcasm. Instead, he only repeated it 3 times. In complete seriousness.

what type of mind do these idiots have? Arod should've been benched following the first game of this series. He did NOTHING to contribute down the stretch, looking completely overmatched no matter the pitcher/situation. When healthy the Yankees have a better player in Chavez. No reason for him to play.

most overrated MLB player of my lifetime.

That's dumb. Arod was a hell of a player, but he just aged like everyone else. Pretty soon we will start hearing Albert Pujols referred to as the most overrated player, all because the Angels vastly overpaid for way too long.

The owners are acting like the steroid era never ended, and don't realize that without them, players are going to start declining sooner and faster.

Arod is going to collect $114 million over the last fiv years of his contract. That's obnoxious. Pujols is going to get $140 million over his last five, and he is going to play 4 more seasons before that starts. That, as a Cardinal fan, is hilarious.

But both are among the best hitters to ever play the game. They are just getting judged more harshly because owners are bad at math.

A-Rod's numbers have been sub par for the last couple of years during the playoffs run. He's been just hacking at the ball lately, is 2 for 16 including 9 strike outs. Right move if you asked me but wouldn't be surprised at all if he becomes a factor from the outside looking in, as the game wears on and becomes as tight as this series has been so far.

I remember when he was with Seattle and the Giants played them almost every year in interleague play.

He really didn't produce in clutch situations and the Giants got a lot of wins in those series. In one game, you could tell the frustration was getting to him because he was reckless sliding into second base and got one of the Giants infielders hurt.

This was when he was under 30 and he was hitting 40-50 HRs at the time. I thought he must be racking up his numbers when the runs don't matter -- either his team is winning or losing by a large margin.

Seattle had all these great hitters and they really didn't have much to show for all those years.

Well, all credit to the Cards for chipping away at it. Storen is going to feel like crap for a while.

On the upside, sometimes you have to lose to learn how to win. Hopefully next year they return, another year wiser.

I have to say, the Cards can be dangerous up and down that entire lineup! Congrats.

That was enjoyable. If it can't be the Braves at least it's not the Nats. They'll be back in 3rd to 5th place in the East next year where they belong. :)

Feel the same way. About the least interesting/likable set of match ups possible.

Thought I saw it all last year. Still speechless to describe that comeback! You can never count out the Cardinals.
