From all of the editing of Madden calssic teams I´ve done the ast few weeks, I´ve noticed something about todays players.

Why is it that every NFL player other than QBs wear gloves? I assume the QBs don´t wear gloves because it hinders their grip, but then why do RBs, WRs, and DBs wear them? Using that logic wouldn´t gloves hinder their ability to hold tha ball as well?

I guess it´s just a throwing thing for not wearing them, but I just don´t get why EVERY other player wears them.

Psychological?

I like getting my hands dirty as much as the next weekend warrior when it comes to home projects. But I do know that I attack projects such as digging in dirt, trimming hedges, etc., with a lot more vigor when wearing my leather work gloves.

Do they help me do the job better? Probably not, other than squelching a few blisters. But they sure make me more aggressive with my hands.

I guess we could say the same about batting gloves. Why do baseball players need batting gloves for one or both hands? Golfers, I can understand. They´re swinging the club on the tees and fairways between 30 and 40 times per round.

But a baseball player may swing the bat less than 15 times per game, with plenty of time between at-bats. Why the gloves? Don´t you want that "feel" of the bat?
I remember using batting gloves to help deaden the sting I got sometimes when hitting. If I hit the ball just right (or maybe wrong), I would get this numbing sting through my hands. The gloves helped in that respect.

I also kept a batting glove on under my fielding glove for added padding as well.

Maybe I just have delicate hands

I believe it has to do with the fact that quarterbacks need to be very precise with their throws and really need to feel the ball with their skin rather than through a glove. When you have sex which do you prefer? Condom or no condom? Same theory applies to a qb. Receivers and backs get better grip using gloves but they don´t have to be precise throwing it they just need to catch it and hold on to it. Big difference.
Have you ever felt the palm of a glove made foor a RB or a WR...they have virtually no slip to them at all. It is so that they can grip the ball better. Hands can get dirty and you lose some of your grip, whereas a glove can be replaced easily and it gives you a more consistent feel when catching or running with the ball.

As for QB´s NOT wearing gloves...it´s definitely for the feel. Except when your hands are numb in the winter, when guys like Tom Brady will wear gloves anyway...just for the grip factor.

DB:

Good point. Gloves have become more popular ever since the "Lester Hayes no stick-em" rule was passed in the NFL.

God, I remember the days when Biletnikoff and Hayes used to bathe in stick-em before games.

I´m not sure what all this talk about pads and gloves is about. To be equipped for football, all you really need are a good pair of cleats, shin guards, and a cup to protect your crown jewels.

Hope you don´t think you are talking about soccer...

wtf are ´cleats´ ? - do you mean football boots ?

no one playing soccer wears a box.

I also take the pitch in a kit and a pair of gloves, but then I am a keeper, most often.
