That said, what 'edition' are people getting? I see there's a few, as I guess that's just what publishers do now for major releases.
Ultimate.
I also had a very large download a couple of weeks ago when I preordered, but it's not the full size. It's likely some "finalized" files that were confirmed to be final and won't need to be updated at launch, whereas the preload will be all of the other files that weren't final at the time of purchase on the store prior to preload.

Standard for me. There’s only one story mission add-on for the premium additions. The rest seem to be just extra “stuff” boosts and then lots of MP extras and boosts.
I sure hope I can carve out some time to play this game. I played the hell out of RDR and loved nearly every minute of it.
Maybe I'm not doing something right but when I go to RDR 2 I have a play option and it says "I'm too early" as expected but there is no option to pre-download more of the game.

Mine only had a 100 MB file size yesterday, but this morning it is has the full 88 GB downloaded.

I have automatic background downloading on, perhaps it just downloaded without me knowing it.

I preordered a physical copy. They told me Thursday 9 PM I could pick it up, but honestly as good and melancholic RDR 2 maybe, I will still take my stride and get it on Friday. No rush.
I bought the enhanced edition or whichever the $80 one is digitally. It's all downloaded and ready to go. Don't have much going on this weekend, so should be able to get a good start on it.
PlayStation 4 - and latterly, PS4 Pro - have taken centre-stage in Red Dead Redemption 2's pre-release marketing campaign, meaning we have a pretty decent idea of how Rockstar's latest epic presents on Sony hardware. Today, we can discuss the Xbox One versions of the game, and the key takeaway is this: if you're looking for the very best RDR2 experience, Xbox One X is the go-to platform for this game. Rockstar's stunning technological achievement runs at native 4K on the X, and also delivers the smoothest performance. Bearing in mind just how far Rockstar is pushing current-gen hardware, that's a stunning achievement.

Fired up the game at midnight to get a quick look Gorgeous game. HDR is stunning. Audio is superb. Can’t wait to really get into it. Game oozes polish. Rockstar knows how to make a damn game.

RDR2 Online will be sweet when it comes out in a few weeks also.
No Rockstar game has ever looked this good! For an open world game, it really is quite a feat how beautiful and detailed it is. There's no comparison between this and RDR. No frame rate issues and wow does it look amazing in 4K on the One X.
I played for about an hour and a half last night, so not a lot of impressions to really add just yet. Thus far, it's pretty linear but that's to be expected. The game starts out slow, but the story and characters keep things interesting. Sometimes I found it a little difficult to distinguish who was speaking, so I initially turned on the sub titles. However, that got too distracting.
There seems like there's a lot of controls to remember. I'm sure it'll become second nature quickly, but it's more involved than what I'm used to for a Rockstar game. The depth of this game is substantial compared to the GTA series and previous RDR. It's not a complaint, but more so something to get used to. I think I'll appreciate it the more I play.
Here's my nit pick with the game. The movement in Rockstar games can feel a little clunky. As if the character can only run vertical or horizontal, but not freely in all different directions. It's something I'll adjust to, but sometimes I feel like I'm fighting with the controls. The cover system works well, but could be better.

Yeah, the control of the players is horrible. But whatever, I'll adjust.
I've played less than an hour but the control feels so clunky, I mean no more than any other Rockstar but after coming off of a game with very fluid character controls it kind of sucks

I wonder if part of it is that you're trudging through the snow. So, it's harder to move swiftly. I guess I'm just trying to convince myself of that. I'm coming from playing Spider-Man so it'll definitely take some getting use to.
