RIP Pat DiNizio

Post by pk500 »

Pat DiNizio, the lead singer and guitar player of The Smithereens, died today at age 62.

What a great band. Almost the perfect power pop band and one of the most underrated bands of the 1980s and one of the most underrated American rock bands of all time.

RIP, rocker.

"Blood and Roses" and "Miles From Nowhere" are my favorite Smithereens tunes. A real tribute to a great band that three guys have posted favorite Smithereens' songs with no overlap.

I have my original copy of Green Thoughts on vinyl purchased many years ago. Should give it a listen again.

Love "Drown in My Own Tears" from that album. One of my favorite Smithereens tunes.

Under-appreciated band.

Guess a real working class band, never hit it huge.

I would never have guessed that they formed in 1980 -- also surprising the guy was that old.

I didn't hear them on the radio until the '90s around here, when they kind of rode the rise of alternative rock genre, at least as far as airplay around here.
