The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
I tried to hold off on creating this thread until Liverpool signed a new number one 'keeper and could name a central defensive pairing that didn't strike fear into the hearts of their own coaching staff, but everyone's patience has a limit.
In some ways, it feels like last season ended only yesterday. In others, it feels like I've spent several lifetimes reading about Mourinho and Wenger not getting on all that well, countless pieces of increasingly inane "Arsenal make SHOCKING bid for Real Madrid STAR!" clickbait and, most bizarrely of all, the Daily Mail reporting on how Diego Simeone still looks in decent shape as an excuse to run some pictures of his girlfriend in a bikini.
I'm at least as excited about it being the end of all that bollocks for another year as I am about the actual football, which is saying something because we've got Morecambe at home on the opening day, surely a fixture to stir even the stoniest of hearts.

I'm very interested at the McClaren Experiment on Tyneside. He'll probably end up sacked or irrelevant, as Fat Mike's only goal for the club is to avoid relegation and avoid European competitions.
Ah, abject mediocrity. Way to aim high, Ashley.

Di Maria's experiment in MU didn't last long. Signs with PSG.

WANKER!!!!!!
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
Portsmouth are now three divisions below the Premiership. Holy cow! I could be retired by the time they make it back, or dead
Leeds could be back in the premiership next season after a long absence.
Can't wait for the morning. Only 8 more hours to go.

Tottenham were unlucky to not not at least draw with ManU. They were the better team today.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
Swansea had a great gameplan against the current champs aided by the expulsion of Courtois ( a right call btw) and played them tough. The first half had it all while both teams were more cautionary in the second.

I was very frustrated watching that game today. They did have their chances though and an own goal... ugh...pigpen81 wrote:Tottenham were unlucky to not not at least draw with ManU. They were the better team today.

Absolutely the right call on Courtois. He knew it. He didn't argue. His slumped shoulders after the call spoke volumes about his guilt.10spro wrote:Swansea had a great gameplan against the current champs aided by the expulsion of Courtois ( a right call btw) and played them tough. A spy satellite has spotted thousands of Leicester residents taking screenshots of the Premier League table tonight. Perhaps the last time the Foxes will lead the Premiership!

At least that was worth getting out your seat for.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
It was at that.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
Arsenal's D was soft as jello and Peter Cech couldn't have a worse start for his new club. He'll improve though.
Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
Great win for Everton today, nice to see them put together a complete game after last week. More importantly, Lukaku and Barkley are scoring and a healthy Kone is making a difference.
Watching Leicester City manhandle West Ham right now. That's a good football team right there, they always seem to bring their A game every week and are currently up 2-0. Looks like 6pts for them in their first two games, although still the 2nd half to go. Leicester is quickly becoming one of my favorite teams to watch.

I think Janmaat is Dutch for "moron." Ugh.

Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
Dumb, dumb challenges. The ref could probably have kept card in pocket for the second yellow but that'd only have bought Janmaat another couple of minutes, tops, since he didn't have the first idea what to do with Monteiro other than foul him. Still, could be worse - you could support Sunderland.pk500 wrote:I think Janmaat is Dutch for "moron." Ugh.
Already, 3 of the north-east's 4 Premier and Football League clubs have dropped points. To my utter astonishment, the only remaining 100% record in the region belongs to my lot. Fun while it lasts...

Re: The Beautiful Game thread, season 2015/16
The second yellow was a blatant shirt pull because Janmaat had no clue how to stop Monteiro. Easy yellow for the ref.
Another season of misery on the cards on Tyneside. Thanks, Fat Mike, you worthless f*ck.

The ageless Buffon was brilliant, this Juve team didn't miss Pirlo one bit with Pogba taking charge in the midfield. Nice come back from behind with Morata's beautiful shot.
The other Manchester team also lost as PSV took it to them 2-1.

Very "arcade" goal by Florenzi:

If you scored a goal like that in Fifa or Pes you'd be demanding an urgent patch or your money back.

Meanwhile, in my neck of the woods, whoever writes the Facebook updates for Sunderland fanzine A Love Supreme has things pretty well figured out:
