1. Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
2. Kanye West - My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy

Almost flipped these which would say a lot with me being a huge Arcade Fire fan...

*very large gap*

3. The National - High Violet (Extended Edition)
4. Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest
5. Beach House - Teen Dream
6. Sleigh Bells - Sleigh Bells

*another significant gap*

7. Vampire Weekend - Contra
8. LCD Soundsystem - This is Happening
9. No Age - Everything in Between
10. Spoon - Transference

I'm late to the party, but I LOVE Cee-Lo Green's latest album, "The Lady Killer." This record will figure prominently in my top 10 of the year.

I somehow missed listening to this album until yesterday. What a breath of fresh air. Definitely in my top 3 now.

Same here! Discovered this through Pitchfork's (yes, Pitchfork) Top 50 list. Interesting listen. Maybe not top three for me, but definite contender for top 10.

Finally got around to listening to some stuff left behind this year. Titus Andronicus' The Monitor is pretty great. Part camper van, part (rocking) uncle tupelo, part 90's stoner alt-rock. Totally surprising to me. Check it out.

Definitely another member of my top 10. Loved that record from the first time I played it.

I could write volumes on why Before Today is so cool(but won't). Take a song like Fright Night. What is it? New wave horror disco? No idea how to describe that song to anyone. Same for Beverly Kills. I imagine the hype/expectations for their next release will be through the roof. Glad to see others dig it.

"Before Today" is fantastic because it pays complete homage to 70s classic rock and pop rock radio while still sounding incredibly fresh. Quite a feat. Unlike any other album in 2010.

As I continue to plow through 2010 releases before Dec. 31, this year strikes me as one in which there weren't many great records. But there were a hell of a lot of good ones.

I won't have much trouble ranking my top two or three records of the year, but the final pruning to the top 10 list will be brutal.

Catching up on stuff from 2010 that was on the back burner:

Crystal Castles- still don't get it all. It's not really dance music, not really "the knife".

Girl Talk "all day" - interesting as usual. I end up wondering more about how he does this than enjoying the music most of the time, but the formula still sounds fresh to me.

Wild Nothing "Gemini" - still hard to believe these guys are from Virginia for some reason. I have a weak spot for 80's new wave revival. I see a mega tour with Cut Copy, Wild Nothing, and The Boat People that will feel like a reunion tour of bands you never actually saw in the 80's...

Any of you guys fans of 'Caribou'? Just got turned on to their (his?) last 2 albums. Wow...really good.

Oh, and I tried to get into Deerhunter's latest and I just think it's awful. What am I missing? It's seems overly drab and bruting.

Different strokes, I guess. Everyone has a critically acclaimed album each year that doesn't register. It was Vampire Weekend's "Contra" this year for me. Derivative of their first album, which already aped Paul Simon's "Graceland" badly.

I thought The National's "High Violet" sucked, too. Also derivative of their last album, and Matt Berninger's Gordon Lightfoot drone gets tiresome after about the third song.

I don't get the fuss about either record.

Agreed with you on both those albums.

I liked deerhunter's previous album more than this one, but I am warming up to it. I think it's all about when u listen to it. Played it in the car and almost fell asleep, played it on a flight, and it was near perfect. Interesting how that can work.
