Hi all:

Don´t know if anyone else is catching "The Office" week this week on BBC America, but the network is showing the entire first season of this funny, funny British comedy about office life every night this week, three episodes per night.

The show is bitingly funny. Check it out if you like dry, observational, sarcastic British humor that gets pretty bawdy -- at least by U.S. TV standards -- at times. I laughed out loud at least twice per episode, and there´s no U.S. sitcom that has made me do that since "Seinfeld" went off the air.

"The Office" starts at 10 p.m. (EDT) nightly on BBC America. Check it out -- it´s pretty damn funny, I think.

Take care,
PK

I´ll have to check that out. A good friend let me borrow the DVD of the first season of "Coupling", another BBC show that NBC is converting this year. It´s also on Fridays on BBC America. Hilarious! I hope, but doubt, that the US version can do it justice.
Don´t count on a proper U.S. translation of any Britcom.

Take "The Office," for example. One of the guys received a giant inflatable penis as a birthday present, and the guys in the office did some hilariously subtle and funny things with it during the show.

That sh*t unfortunately never would fly in the U.S., the most uptight, Puritannical supposedly "free" nation on Earth.

Yeah, Coupling has a ton of stuff that US TV woudn´t touch...including some excellent gratuitous semi-nudity...

[ This message was edited by: RobVarak on 17-06-2003 12:25 ]

I can´t watch The Office for more than a few minutes - it reminds me too much like being at work, and I have a passing resemblance to David Brent (without the crap beard).
One of the TV channels here was running all 4 series of Blackadder over the weekend..now that was funny, if you´ve ever seen it.
You couldn´t be more right. I have been TiVo-ing the run on BBCA this week, and watched the first episode last night.

Brilliant - Ricky Gervais´ performance is ... masterful. I´m completely floored by what he´s doing there. An utterly classic example of just how bloody hard it is to do comedy.
Gervais is brilliant. I didn´t know a damn thing about him, so I spent about 30 minutes reading about him after a Google search Monday night.

The dude always wanted to do comedy but didn´t start doing it professionally until something like five years ago. Really interesting stuff.

P.S.: I think Gervais´ facial expressions -- including the occasional cheeky look at the camera -- are almost as funny as his dialogue and delivery.

Take care,
